  3. There seems to be a consensus here that:- a) Josh Meekings is a better central defender than right back b) David Raven is a better right back than Josh Meekings c) Josh Meekings is a better central defender than Danny Devine d) Garry Warren looks a better player when playing alongside Meekings rather than Devine and that therefore - e) David Raven should be playing at right back and Josh Meekings should be playing in central defence. Having said that. it has rather slipped under people's radar that we have the 5th best defence in the league. We may not be able to understand the reason for current selection policy but the fact remains that our defensive record is pretty decent this year. I think some people are being a bit harsh on Danny Devine. Sure he has made some errors, but who hasn't? He has also done a lot of good work. He has started in more games than any other outfield player this year and the fact is that we would not have the defensive record we have if he was as much of a bomb scare as some would have us believe. He's an important and valuable member of our squad and it is unfortunate, to say the least, that he is being given the stick that he is in order to support the campaign to keep Dave the Rave. The fact of the matter is that we have very little defensive cover. Williams can play at left back but he is off to Dundee. A back four of Raven, Meekings, Warren and Tremarco would leave only Devine and Horner as cover. Draper and Polworth can play in defence (albeit out of position) and after that we are down to un-tested youngsters. The bottom line is that regardless of where Meekings is better or whether Raven or Devine should start, we really need both of them in the squad. The Board's recent statement indicated that the budget for next season is similar to last season's initial budget which, in turn, was significantly more than any previous manager has had to work with. Unless Hughes has something a bit special up he sleeve, then I cannot for the life of me see any reason why he isn't doing all he can to keep both these players at the club. And remember, Garry Warren is 31 and Devine only 23. Looking to the future, a central pairing of Meekings and Devine could be a very useful central partnership for years to come. The manager clearly wants to keep Devine at the club and I would certainly support that. But we need Raven too. Come on Yogi - it's a no brainer!

  4. Jonny Tuffey kept a clean-sheet at the weekend, helping Glenavon win the Northern Irish Cup Final 2-0 against Linfield, at Windsor Park. Coincidentally (after the previous post), another of our former 'keepers who'll be playing in the Europa League next season!

  5. In principle a good idea....would like to sign the Polish guy on the right but on past experience we are more likely to get the guy on the left....

  6. Came across these in a recent clean out - if I recall they were from the late 70s or early 80s - I am sure there were a few more in the set....

  8. Josh and Gary are our best centre halves. Danny is an accident waiting to happen and has costs us about 10 goals this year from silly errors. Cant believe he has been another contract ahead of Raven. Raven can overlap and get us up the park unlike Josh at full back. Great support for Raven on friday. Solid performer for us been treated badly.

  10. Warren and Meekings were the best central defenders setup all last season,k why are we not playing them when our defense seems to have more holes than a sieve ? Although a supporter of Raven I am not saying he should be there I just think we are wasting Meekings as a central defender evidence the number of silly goals we have conceeded. Team before pride I would say to Hughs.

  12. I agree the Warren-Meekings partnership does appear to be our best - I have not seen anything else this season to suggest otherwise. We have all been focused on the fact that we need to have more depth (and quality) in our forward positions but I think with our abundance of midfield options we really need to be looking at our defensive options in more detail. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but do we not appear to currently have a great depth in our defensive positions and I can't say I have been impressed with what I have seen of Devine or Horner this season.

  16. Agree with this. Not just this league, but fitba in general. This has already become an overused phrase but...Just look at Leicester....or Man City, with all their money etc they may have a season where they win nothing, and possibly not even 'win' a champions league place. i am a supporter of ICTFC therefore I will be renewing my season ticket, and I will be hoping for but not expecting a good season. And if we get relegated then I will again renew my season ticket and once again hope for the best. This is what being a fan/supporter is all about. If we start talking like only attending if we are winning we are in danger of being like Celtic and The Rangers and Man Utd fans.....#facepalm

  17. Just further evidence of his narcissism! I would jump on the Yogi-out bandwagon, but we can't afford that either! Maybe we could set up a crowdfunding page to bolster the funds (enough to keep the Rave and Storey and pack Yogi's bags) the board can deal with the rest!

  18. Caley Ladies 1926 - don't actually remember any of the Inverness teams having a ladies team in the second half of the 20th century but 90 years later there is definitely an Inverness ladies team

  19. As I said somewhere else, that very same steward was swearing in front of my daughter as we were making our way through the turnstile, I did manage to make him feel very small, but clearly he's just a ****! Handled it all wrong, as I've seen him do many times before!

  20. Even if Raven wasn't playing, our defence would still be stronger with the Warren-Meekings partnership restored and Horner or even Polworth at right back. That pairing last season was the best in the country. It simply has to be restored. I can't help but think though that Hughes is simply doing this to spite the supporters. That's not good management, in fact it's the complete opposite.

  21. Second time I've got a red dot for saying the same thing? Unless it's for showing negativity to the steward? no, I never tbh, didn't think anything more of it until I saw him having a drama with the young team. not sure about regular, but he was at the last home game too, took a bottle of water off a guy and tried taking a bottle of juice off a young lassie but he clearly didn't want to get into that minefield!

  22. So, after all the negativity over the lacklustre end of season run in, I thought a bit of light-hearted trivial fun might be in order. If this would be better in a different section, then feel free to move it mods. If money was no object and spinning plates wasn't an issue then who would you like to see as the first 18 players in a CaleyJags shirt? This is effectively your team of the year, across all leagues. Starting 11, the formation you would play them in and 7 subs, and for that matter what about your manager of the year too. My selection... Hart Alves Boateng Sakho Marcelo Ozil DeBruyne Mahrez Messi Kane Aubameyang Subs: Cech, Vardy, Alli, Ramos, Pogba, Rashford, ThiagoSilva Manager: Klopp

    • Kelty Hearts Training Statement
What a farce we have become, a laughing stock: Did you hear the one about the footbal team from the Highlands of Scotland that want to train at Cowdenbeath? Unfortunately, unlike our board, this is not a joke. Our board are trying to rip our identity from the Highlands and replace it with shared training at Kelty Hearts. I kid you not, this is not a drill and the clowns that run our club appear to be delighted at this coup.

    • Relegation Statement
RELEGATION STATEMENT: This could have been said ten minutes after our defeat to Hamilton three days ago. So far, this is not the news that we on Caley Thistle Online wanted to hear. Pleased that we will still function as a club, disappointed that resignations have not been offered yet. Keeping fans waiting in silence for three days is unforgivable and relationships are drifting further apart than ever before. Silence is not the way forward, we deserve better as fans.

    • Inverness CT 2-3 (3-5) Hamilton - Play off final (relegation)
RELEGATED: Despite Inverness needing to get off the mark quickly, it was Accies that killed the tie inside the first fifteen minutes with strikes from Kevin O'Hara and Lewis Smith. Cammy Kerr reduced the leeway with a good strike from distance, but O'Hara struck again with a penalty before the break to diffuse the revival. We struggled to create anything of note and this reporter could not stomach any more and left the stadium. I'm told Alex Samuel pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but like the rest of the season it was too little too late.

    • Hamilton 2-1 Inverness CT - Play off final 1st Leg
A better showing from Inverness in the second half, especially with Lawal and Pepple on the park but it's Hamilton that take a one goal advantage up the A9 on Saturday. Lawal has been the standout performer in our last few games and surely he must start on Saturday. Pepple also did well, scored the goal, had an effort saved and got in a few balls across the box from tight positions.

Still, a shocker of a first half and we must be up for it from the start on Saturday.
