Last Time Out The Caley Jags recovered from a goal down to draw with Raith Rovers last weekend. The points were shared thanks to two spectacular goals from Ethan Ross and Reece McAlear. A poor first half for the hosts saw Raith lead at the break but a better performance after the interval earned a share of the points although Raith will be aggrieved that they never ended their 22 year wait for a win over Inverness. Queens were deservedly beaten by Kilmarnock in a 2-0 defeat at Palmerston. Alan Johnston had this to say about it on BBC Sport: "It was never a penalty. There was a tug of the shirt but I've seen it again and it was way outside the box. But we continue to give away cheap goals. We have a fight on our hands. That's for sure." That's something like only four wins in 25 games since Alan Johnston went to Palmerston. The sort of form that gets teams relegated. Unfortunately, on the whole, we seldom take full advantage of this and often find ourselves struggling to dominate these games. That needs to change now if we want to remain interested in topping this league. Showing some urgency from the start would be an improvement on recent offerings. Latest Team News Billy Dodds saw Sean Welsh return last week as a second half substitute against Raith Rovers. Aaron Dorran missed out with a thigh injury and is a major doubt. Youth player Harry Hennem will continue his loan spell at Brora Rangers until the end of the season. More disturbing news though if true is that Scott Allardice is allegedly out for the season if you believe the latest rumours. Another equally disappointing one is that Robbie Deas is the subject of a six figure bid by St Johnstone to lure our defender to McDiarmid Park, following the footsteps of defenders Jamie McCart and Shaun Rooney. Meh! Next up for scrutiny will be Shane Sutherland... As an aside, but equally annoying: Daniel Mackay has joined Killie on loan, and loan Ranger Kai Kennedy has gone to Hamilton Accies. Fingers crossed the bid has been rejected because we can't afford to loose a key player when we already have a small squad. Hopefully the speculation won't effect Deas and we have agreed to look again in the summer if we don't get promoted. I don't think any supporter would hold it against Deas if he moves on at the end of the season to the premiership.

The club has tended to take the position of not standing in the way of players who want to move on and further their careers. It is, after all, perfectly reasonable for players to want to move on to clubs playing in a higher division or paying more money. A career playing football only lasts a few years at best and can easily end sooner than expected due to injury, so it is understandable that players will be keen to grab any opportunity they get to further their careers. Having an unsettled player in the dressing room leads to an unsettled squad. But another important factor here is that if the club is seen to be sympathetic to players who want to take up other opportunities, it makes it more likely that other players will be happy to come here. If the club had a reputation of blocking players from moving when a bigger club shows interest in them, then recruitment would suddenly be a whole lot harder than it already is. We are always going to be a club that develops players and moves them on. The key thing for the club is that not standing in the way of players moving on must be conditional on getting a fair price for the players. If we get £150k for Deas, I would have thought that was good business. He's a decent player and would be missed, but he's not exactly topping the polls for POTY.

Ngl thats what I don't understand about the betting rule. If it involves your team, then the rules make sense, but why should a League Two player get the book thrown at him for betting on, say, Celtic vs Dundee United?

Good result for us. A win tomorrow puts us in a good position, particularly if we can beat Dunfermline next week when our rivals are not playing in the league. We have our issues with injuries and gambling, but now is the time for the team to bond and show what they are really capable on the pitch, no matter how decimated our squad is. We are a match for anyone in this league. Now is the time to prove it on the pitch!!

Patrick's late equaliser is a real bonus for us. However, it's essential that we fully capitalise on it by taking maximum points tomorrow.

On reflection, I apologise for my initial knee jerk response. For all I know, Shane could be one of the many thousands who have a gambling addiction. According, I withdraw what I said previously and, if that is the case, I hope that this very public exposure is a route to whatever therapy or counselling may be required.

Shane Sutherland has been served with a Notice of Complaint regarding historic gambling offences so I expect we might see him missing for a few games. Coupled with the Allardice injury and the other departures from the squad we are in need of some serious reinforcements this month.
