  1. 30 years ago there were no big TV Deals nor big sponsorship deals. Some people are more attracted to the big lights than others. Some people are more pragmatic than others. We won the First Division title on blood sweat and tears and a tight budget. That should be the message sent out to all clubs in Scotland. The rules on points deduction should be strengthened. Clubs should perhaps submit audited statements every three months to their league association showing a true and fair view. Those with income to expenditure ratios such as Dundee and having legacy debt to HMRC beyond a sustainable level should be subject to a player recruitment restriction and pay freeze. That should be built into players contracts which might restrict the role of agents feeding off clubs.
  2. If life seems jolly rotten There's something you've forgotten And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing. When you're feeling in the dumps Don't be silly chumps Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing. And...always look on the bright side of life... Always look on the light side of life... And to think they took the Alba Cup off us!
  3. ?75,000 better off! St Mirren fans ecstatic. 45 minutes for Foran. Look on the bright side - Hamilton were humped last year and learned an enormous amount from it. Motherwell eventually started to get results last year. We were heading to the Second Division at this stage last year. 6-0 may go down as a great result because it will wake every player up.
  4. Hope Essen is awake in the first few minutes to prevent another Doug Imrie
  5. If there is to be consistency a lot of Managers should be cautioned by the police for foul and abusive language.
  6. In days gone by in the SPL we struggled to get draws. Fantastic never say die spirit.
  7. Personally I thought Duff did very well in his loan spell. He seemed to settle in very quickly which was not an easy task. This time around it is make or break. This may be his last big chance and I suspect it will bring the best out of him and others. He brings considerable experience to the team and is well known to the management team.
  8. So are the supporters. Celtic's millionaires duffed it last night. Our players would have done just as well if not better. Our players still play for the club not their agents.
  9. Tuffey - McCann - Munro - Procter - Gillet Odhiambo - Cox - McBain Hayes - Tokely - Ross Tokely has to be groomed to take over from Rooney!
  10. To tell you the truth, I don't think it's that bad a stadium anyway... Cheeky little getting Juanjo sent off patronising conman.
  11. That's it then, Celtic get an easy win and wrestle the title back from Rangers, win the Europa Cup and Lennon becomes Sir Neil as a result.
  12. I notice Brewster has not come on the website to say 'sorry lads, my being in denial about turning things around and my management style, losing Donald were probably the root cause of relegation.' If we had sacked him a few months earlier and given him a wad of cash to go things might have been a whole lot better. However, that is history, and hopefully many people including supporters do not want to make the same mistakes again.
  13. I like the idea of the Players after their warm up running around the inside and interacting with fans. That creates a better bond and may be useful against Celtic at least as a start.
  14. Hertha Berlin have a fantastic home support albeit at the Olympic Stadium. We need a kilted mascot to wind up the home troops. A person who before kick off leads the 'Caledonia' chorus. Now that Smithy has gone stand up that man and take us forward.....
  15. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/irish/8886730.stm Great news for Tuffey who is above McGovern obviously in the pecking order. Esson or Rossco for Scotland?
  16. Playing in the SFL rarely got us on the sports news let alone Scotland nationally. With BBC Alba our broadcasters restricted numbers to a select few. China will see what they missed with Rossco.
  17. Certainly balanced and reasonable. The Brewster return is the reality check. There was something at that time which indicated a downward trend. There is sensible optimism at present with what appears to be some some very fresh signings to change last year's pattern in order to prepare for a much tougher league.
  18. It would be fantastic to let the team parade before the Celtic game.
  19. Look, Lionel did not let Skippy's reputation affect his tackling: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/s...rem/7859031.stm ''One of the startling transformations of Butcher's short time in Inverness is with Lionel Djebi-Zadi. The colossal, muscular French full-back made only a fleeting, error-strewn appearance under Craig Brewster earlier in the season. As he was against Celtic, though, Djebi-Zadi looked immense yesterday. After 32 minutes, he controlled and shimmied inside Willie Gibson and then released Foran with an inch-perfect diagonal pass.'' 'http://caleythistleonline.com/news/archives/102-matches-2008-09-/643-wilson-testimonial-v-liverpool-xi 'Another new face at ICT this year, Lionel Djebi-Zadi, had been working tirelessly the entire match, and my report probably doesn?t do him justice, but he gets his mention here as his efforts paid dividends with only 7 minutes to go and his cross found Proctor who, after a bit of a defensive nightmare by Liverpool, stuck the ball away to secure the 5-0 victory for the home team.''
  20. We are talking about Elgin here. Their record so far is not good. So apart from security does Barry believe he can improve their dismal record? Maybe it is Hobson's choice for him.
  21. Remember that Hereford is not at SPL level. Terry Butcher rated Lionel very highly initially and used him as his regular left back in the SPL. He even suggested to Lionel that he would contact his international manager. Lionel lost his place when the former club captain was re-signed. Lionel is a great guy and can perform some amazing tricks. He had 50% of the supporters loving him. A case of Vive la France. Lionel really has the potential to be an outstanding star at Hereford's level. The same goes for Stratford.
  22. http://www.nwemail.co.uk/afc/news/deasy-ba...ferrerPath=home Last updated at 14:46, Friday, 09 July 2010 ''Bayliss added that Edwards was currently on trial with Scottish Premier League outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle.''
  23. Who will lower the flag? Danny Alexander? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12...p.html?ITO=1490 Presumably the German flag will replace it?
  24. It would be quite interesting to compare the standard weekly pay of the last Scotland squad with England today and then decide if England went to the World Cup with passion and hunger. Could they cope on Scottish wages? Would it have made them hungry for success? Or do they rely on David Beckham's motivational presence in the dressing room? Their supporters this morning seemed disjointed because after the draw they had assumed they would walk their group. In advance they knew where they would play their last 16 game so booked 1000's of rooms in advance, they probably had booked accommodation for the Quarter Finals and some the Semis. As bad luck would have it, teams on wages probably less than Scotland's turned up and dented their plans. World class players such as Rooney,Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Defoe and Heskey, and I could go on, somehow had off days, Croach was carrying an injury from amazing stunts for Pringles, whilst Green set the tone with a pub league error. Now what about the Lampard 'goal'? Well it was not a goal in accordance with the rules so did not count. But wait, were the England players traumatised by this? Did Geoff Hurst send then a message at Half Time? Some laughed at the French, others the Italians, but tonight against a young German team of no hopers England's millionaires just could not cope. Did anyone else count 1,966 errors they made in this tournament?
  25. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/s...rem/8745142.stm "For most fans, Inverness is a bit further away than Falkirk," said Blair. "It's an extra few hours up the A9 for the clubs in the central belt but we just have to deal with that. '' So there you have an Aberdeen fixture on New Year's Day and a trip for one set of supporters along the goat track. The SPL have also announced who they want to finish in the top six: "But if Celtic, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibernian, Motherwell and Rangers finish in the top six this season then all clubs will play 19 home games and 19 away games. '' Are they intellectually challenged or something?
