  1. Don't get carried away, We've got a very difficult run in and whilst 4th is still possible, 6th is still a very challenging target. The win today was really important and will have boosted confidence no end. The next four games are absolutely crucial - we probably need to see the game at Hibs as a must win because after that all our games are against sides we might expect to end in the top 6. Two games against Dundee Utd and one against Motherwell will be games we can't afford to lose and we realistically need to win 2 of those. With teams behind us having games in hand we probably need 10 points from the next 4 games. If we don't, we will need to beat Hearts and/or Celtic later on and hope other results go our way. Kilmarnock are certainly stuttering and might drop out of the top 6, but on the other hand I wouldn't rule Aberdeen out.
  2. Calderwood has a pretty decent record in management in Scottish football and County have a reasonable squad who have underperformed. I would be surprised if County did not improve and would expect them to end the season in mid table safety. I look forward to being proven completely wrong.
  3. Great post from Caleytillidie. The thing is, rules is rules and where they are silly rules you need to apply a bit of commonsense in judging how far you can go in breaking the rules. Where stewards are inflexible, rude and aggressive, then it is best to sit down and watch the game. Goading them and getting thrown out is not clever. Having said that there have clearly been times where the behaviour of the stewards is worse than that of the fans they are dealing with and if they are out of order it is perfectly legitimate to complain. But for me, the problem is not so much the stewards but the rules they are required to enforce. Requiring fans to sit is a nonsense. We are left with the legacy of a massive over-reaction to the dreadful tragedy at Hillsborough which, in itself, was caused by a set of circumstances which were completely avoidable. The physical presence of seats prevents the kind of crowd surges which were common in the "good old days" but these could easily have been controlled by more barriers on the terraces and by sectioning off areas of terracing and controlling numbers in those areas. And in reality, the crowd surges rarely caused injury beyond minor scalding from a cup of spilled Bovril. With seats in place, standing does not represent a risk and therefore there is no good reason why people should not stand provided that they are not standing in front of others who wish to sit. If fans at the back wish to stand or jump up and down then they should be allowed to do so. As far as safety is concerned, the seating actually introduces greater risk in my view. Everyone is now channelled into often steep stair cases in order to exit the grounds and one person tripping could cause a significant incident. With the old terracing you descended on a wider front. The terraces had other advantages. Those who wanted to sing could group together far more easily with the result that there was better atmosphere in the grounds. It was also more social as you could move around to speak with mates you might have spotted in the crowd. And the stewards? What stewards? There was no need for stewards on the terracing because there were no silly rules to enforce. Their role was simply to stop folk getting on to the pitch If we want to get the soul back into British football it is time to put Hillsborough well and trully in the past and apply a bit of common sense at last. Bring back the terracing and bring it back soon whilst I am still physically capable of standing for 90 minutes.
  4. It is inevitable that even the best of strikers will miss sitters from time to time. Far from being fed up with the publicity, I would guess Adam is quite pleased with it as the publicity only draws attention to a wider public that he is a striker of a caliber you would not expect to miss such chances. Far from playing on his mind, he tucked away 2 important goals yesterday to demostrate that he is a striker on form. The fact is that Rooney is getting himself into goal scoring positions and as long as his team mates can deliver good balls to him he is going to score with some regularity. He will not bother about missing a few and neither should we.
  5. This has been raised a few times before and is certainly an area of play where we are particularly weak. Since Munro stopped taking throws there has been nobody who seems to be able to throw the ball any kind of distance. It really is pathetic and should be worked on. The lack of movement of players not making themselves avialable is also very poor - it would be interesting to see some statistic of how often we lose possession directly at a throw in. We are also poor in defending throw ins. There is rarely a player in position to challenge the thrower for when they receive the ball back after a simple straight throw.
  6. A couple of months ago we would have been really disappointed not to win against St Mirren but given the injury situation and suspensions to Tokely and Munro, this is really a pretty good result. Having said that, this is the type of game we really have to win if we are to hold on for a top six finish. It is a tough run in to the split with the last 6 games against sides likely to finish in the top 6. There are promising signs that we could get back to winning ways but it won't be then end of the world if we don't. We need to be realistic and accept that a top 6 finish, whilst still very possible , is probably unlikely. If we end in the top 6 it would be an absolutely brilliant acheivement given the injuries we have had all season. At the start of the season I would have been happy for us to finish 11th and to be honest, even given our high placing at the moment, anything better than 10th at the end of the season will still represent a good performance overall.
  7. I've lodged my objection with the Council. Apart from the fact that all of the proposed routes to cross the river go through important amenity areas on the North of the river, none of the proposed routes actually link with the existing distributor road at Holm Mains - crazy! As the OP states, the closing date for objections is Friday 11th so please get on the website and record your objections to these stupid proposals NOW.
  8. Heard a nice one today. Apparently Aston Villa are changing their strip to pink and blue now that their forward line is Young and Bent!
  9. Like the 1938 England team? That's a terrible slur. Surely everyone knows the teams were lining up for a trial of a new underarm deoderant.
  10. Villa should never have let him go. He's always been one to improve the infrastructure of a team and did some excellent work in developing the youngsters at Villa. His legacy lives on their with a youthful Villa reserve side beating Arenal reserves 10 - 1 last week. O'Neill will be good for West Ham but they have to be patient..
  11. Dundee are likely to end the season with a points total from their games which would not have seen them promoted without the points deduction and which will not see them relegated with it. In that scenario how on earth can you consider that they have received any punishment at all? They should have had a relegation and a points deduction. That would have meant that had they made up the points difference they would only drop one division but if they failed to make up the difference they would go down 2. Justice would have been done and at least they would still have had something to play for.
  12. 0-0 V County at Victoria Park? Not sure though You are correct .... http://stats.caleyth...com/matches.php choose ALL for seasons, and LEAGUE for games and you will see it .... And what a run we went on after that!
  13. I agree it would have been good to see Sanchez start but equally, Sutherland has been playing very well when he has played and also deserves a start. Hopefullt Sanchez will get a reasonable time on the park today.
  14. Shush. Folk are just trying to help the Board get as much for him as possible.
  15. Well, it helps to ease the pain.
  16. There's no way Rooney would go to Inter - there's no Starbucks in Italy. :rotflmao:
  17. And over 7 minutes of extra time for them to try and get a winner
  18. Elgin is in the Highlands. It is not situated in the council area known as Highland, but it is in the Scottish Highlands which is classed as being anywhere north of the Highland Boundary Fault. Have you never wondered why the Highland League is called so despite having only 4 clubs from the Highland Council area? Geography in Inverness schools not too great then? Probably been drinking too much Highland malt whisky from Speyside
  19. If the SFA can overturn the original decision, do they also have the power to increase the penalty? The way Dundee are going I would doubt that they will be relegated if the 25 point penalty stands. How sweet it would be if Dundee were relegated only because of an increased penalty when they would have stayed up had they just accepted the original decision. Sorry, but the season of goodwill is well and trulty over!
  20. How close can you get to scoring without actually doing so? Some good goalmouth action here! http://www.youtube.c...player_embedded
