  1. We certainly rode our luck against a very good Hearts side. Wow, the young lad Templeton is some player! It was a shame Hayes was so out of sorts because there was space for him with Hearts pressing all the time. However, for all Hearts effort (and Jeffries was very pleased with their performance) the stats showed we had more shots on target. This demonstrates how defensively we are solid whilst creating chances up front. We will play worse than that and win against poorer sides than Hearts.
  2. Ryan Esson saved his bacon by saving the penalty. What if Miller had scored? Would Murray then have said : Sorry boys - I cost you a couple of points there. Nothing we can do about it now, I'm afraid. No idea. Fact is that Miller didn't score and Murray did apologise. We can only pass comment on that and not what he might or might not have said if something different had happened.
  3. The refs just get a quick look in the heat of the moment whilst trying to keep an awareness of other things going on around them. Inevitably they get some things wrong and miss other things. We have to accept that. What we don't have to accept is the response of the managers of the clubs. They will analyse footage of the games in some detail and Walter Smith will be well aware that Beatie cheated last week. So what is he doing about it? Patting the lad on the back, probably. Whilst referees should take tough action when they are sure players have dived, if this kind of cheating is to be stamped out it requires action from the clubs. Managers should be big enough to publicly state they will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and impose bans themselves. Some may argue that managers won't do that because it may jeopardise the teams chances - but teams will ban players for breaches of internal discipline. So apparently it's OK to cheat but not to break a club rule. In fact, a public stance condemning cheating and banning players who do, may work out in their favour in the long run. If the refs know that diving is not tolerated by the clubs then they just may be more inclined to give players from those clubs the benefit of the doubt. Oh, and fair play to Murray for being big enough to apologise.
  4. Scary enough walking on that track but imagine what it must have been like to construct it!
  5. Maybe Brown's move to Aberdeen was a smart move after all!
  6. Gentlemen, are you going to the Hearts match at the weekend or, as it is the last Saturday before Christmas, has she who has to be obeyed decreed that Christmas shopping is the order of the day? If it is the latter, don't worry, there is an alternative if you can manage to be sufficiently unhelpful and irritating - and let's face it, most of us can. Look out for this or similar signs - in fact, any pub will do.
  7. Read in the P&J that TB is the 4th longest serving manager in the SPL - and he's not been here 2 years. Reid is the longest serving. This manager merry-go-round is not good for the game.
  8. Go for it. You know it makes sense. Even if the match is off there will be plenty of entertainment options in the city which, to be honest, you would probably enjoy more than watching a Rooney hatrick.
  9. Another strange one. Blackburn are a team who have consistently performed at a higher level than you would expect for a town of that size. Blackburn had a good season last year and are mid table this year so I wonder just what the new owners expect. I thought Allardyce was the right man for the job and just like Pardew at Newcastle, the new manager is going to have to do a very good job indeed to convince the fans that he is the right man for the job.
  10. I think they are all stars, but now that Barrowman has gone I don't really have a favourite.
  11. I'll bet the Irish guys who shook hands with him after the match were pleased to hear about this!
  12. Terry has been known not to be honest with refs himself in the past. For example "Honest ref, I'm fine. It's just a little nick!"
  13. Craigy, you have used the term "honest mistakes" in your thread title and then in your post imply that the referee yesterday gave the penalty to Rangers because he's a Rangers fan and wants to see then in the Champion's league! How on earth do you expect anybody to take you seriously? How about using your own forum to suggest your obnoxious manager treats referees with a bit more respect instead of coming on here to have a dig at Rangers.
  14. It has been a bit of a strange one this week. It is the people who have quite a distance to travel or who, like me, live in a rural setting who have been in at work early whilst folk in the town have been having a lot of problems. Some of them have said it would have been quicker walking to which I reply "why didn't you, then?". But to be fair, they may not have realised the problems they faced - but what ever we have here, it is worse further South. There was an interesting comment on the radio this morning from a guy complaining about all the problems caused by cars parked at the side of the road because the owner can't be *rsed to clear their driveways. (that's not actually the phrase that was used). This means that roads which normally would have traffic flowing in both directions can only accomodate single file traffic as they weave in and out between cars on either side of the road. How inconsiderate and lazy can people be? When I become First Minister I pledge to introduce a law requiring able bodied people to ensure their cars are kept on their driveways or in their garages if they have one. If they behave in this antisocial way they would be ordered to clear their drive before then being required to clear the driveways of the elderly and disabled and then clearing the pavements.
  15. Nice one. A green dot for being able to laugh at your own situation - which, actually, is not as bad as it ought to be
  16. Is this the longest interview you've ever had?
  17. Newcastle are perenial under-achieviers. I don't know when they last won anything worth winning. This decision is so bizarre it is almost as though the Board is worried they might actually win something with Hughton so have bought Pardew in to restore mediocrity to the club.
  18. 2nd round replay - Leyton Orient v Droylsden Non League Droylsden cruising to victory and a major upset. 2 - 0 up and Orient down to 10 men Orient score a 77th minute penalty and then a Droylsden player sees red. Orient equalise in the 89th minute but still manage to get a 2nd player red carded before the full time whistle blows Orient get a 3rd early in extra time before a 2nd Droylsden player gets sent off. It's 9 against 9 and presumably the fitness of the senior side asserts itself as Orient go on to score a further 5 goals! Final score 8 - 2 AET after being 2 goals and one man down with 13 minutes to go. Astonishing!
  19. No, but the appropriately named Barrowman could be used to clear the snow from the pitch.
  20. On the face of it it makes no sense. He has got them into the Premiership and they are mid table. He has certainly been more effective than Houlier at Villa who now seem to be in free fall. Maybe he's been sacked to make way for McGhee
  21. How come the one with the Ulster flag is selling at 1.39 but the one with Saltire is only 99p? Outrageous!
  22. Let's compromise and debate whether the Rangers game will be called off or not. If the weather makes it difficult for the away support to travel I think it should definately go ahead.
  23. I'm afraid they have not been nominated, but at least they have won the Most Appropriate Acronym of the year award.
  24. I'll add my agreement to Caley D and Johnboy. If the home club says they can host the game, the away team say they can get there and an appropriate referee can confirn the pitch is playable, then that should be that - game on. Of course, those involved need to make decisions early to prevent fans travelling when games are called off but it should be for the the clubs and the referee to decide and not the SPL or the police. I understand the difficulty some supporters will have in getting to the game but this is just a matter of degree as there are always risks in going to a match - people trip on pavements and people are involved in RTAs in the best of weather. So unless you stick to a basic principle, where do you draw the line? Should the EPL postpone the Liverpoool Villa match tomorrow because some folk in the East of the country can't get to the pub to watch the match on big screen TV because of the weather? No. Of course not! Making arbitrary boundaries just does not work. On this occasion it was nothing to do with the police but it has been in the past. Again, it's not their call. They don't tell the pubs and the cinemas etc to close during bad weather so why should football fans be singled out as not being capable of making decisions for themselves? Don't get me wrong, I have huge sympathy for the police in dealing with the consequences of people who make poor judgements or who are just plain stupid (none more so that the idiot in this story http://www.bbc.co.uk...d-kent-11908583 ). But we live in a democracy. Businesses (and the football club is a business) should be able to make decisions themselves about whether they want to open or host an event and we, the paying public, should be able to make decisions about whether or not we wish to take any risks associated with attending. Sometimes we make the wrong decisions - but that is our right. The police should be defending our rights and not removing them.
  25. There is NO WAY i would go up to a complete stranger in Inverness and start discussing ICT, i have experienced at first hand unpleasantness and animosity towards myself and ICT whilst out drinking in the city Fair enough if you are in the Caley Thistle club surrounded by fellow ICT fans well that maybe the case but you are wrong to say that everyone is willing to discuss ICT and make you welcome Even on this forum i've not really been made particularly welcome by some, i've even been targeted by a red dot campaign which has caused me a lot of heartache dougal Dougal, I think you have been made very welcome on this site and many of us have a good laugh at your posts. I am sure that is your intention, so, well done! It is really quite an acheivement to be averaging more than 1 red dot per post. And I don't think there is any targeted campaign to give you red dots, it is just a reflection of the general stupidity and offensiveness of your posts. If you speak with people in pubs the way you communicate on this forum then I'm not surprised you find some animosity. It's not a reflection of Inverness or ICT - it's just personal. I've quite enjoyed your drivel today and haven't given you a red dot but then I don't sit in section G and I'm not Ginger. Keep the posts coming - with no football on we need something to amuse us.
