Nobody ever really complains when the penalty taker scores, but did Wyness not take a pretty poor penalty? If the keeper had gone left it looked a guaranteed save : nice height for him, and placed half way between the middle of the goal and the post. Or did Denzil just decide it was Tony Caig and it didn't matter where he put it?

That's bad news, he's still our best striker IMO. However, we need to learn to live without him sooner or later. He was never going to be a long term option on the pitch.

We were not hapless, we played well enough to take at least a point. The howlers at the back would not have been prevented by having Rankin, Morgan or Bayne in the team.

Fraser's recent performances have been poor, he deserved to be dropped and the new guy given a chance. That's what competition for places is all about.

In this tournament England played 4 games against major rugby nations, and mustered a grand total of 1 try in those 4 matches. It would have been a travesty for the sport if they had somehow won it.

There are several SPL clubs who need him more than we do, most of whom have more money and geographical advantage over us. Definitely worth an enquiry though.

Yes. This is the first time Scotland have lost to a team 90 (yes, 90) places below us in the FIFA rankings. And yet it doesn't remotely feel like the worst or most embarrassing result in our history. Another thing that doesn't quite make sense is that despite the awfulness of the Berti Vogts reign we still got to within 90 minutes of qualifying, and only needed a draw in that crunch game (v Holland) as opposed to the victory we now need against Italy.
