Paul Sheerin

I was wondering if anyone was going to agree with me and hope that Paul Sheerin takes on the vacant Arbroath job?

I say this because, if he does a good job with them, in a few years time he could take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle job but even if he doesn't take the job then would it be worth us taking aq gamble on him sometime or would he be better as an assistant to us if he ain't experienced as a manager?

Taxi for Sheerin

hehe class player. Does he have any badges? Seems like a thoughtful chap might make a good manager. Long time to go.

Remember when he left and seemed to put on about five stone? Bizarre.

Great player for us though.

Why exactly did he leave? IIRC it was for Ayr United? He seemed to bang in a few goals for us, plus a number of assists at the time. I remember being surprised he went to a team that didn't seem to be doing much.

Ayr had finished 2nd the season before they signed Sheerin and 3rd in his first season. During that time, their average attendaces were a few hundred higher than ours, and perhaps they were paying higher wages.

I was talking with Maryhill at Somerset about how the divergence in expectations of ICT and Ayr fans is wider than perhaps it should be. They've spent the last 5 years in the 2nd division while we were on the SPL, but before that, most ICT supporters would've regarded them as the bigger club.

Aye, they were very ambitious and spending big at that time. I seem to recall that it was reported on here at the time that Sheerin was more than doubling his wages.

Indeed, Barr was doing to spend big time with Ayr, new stadium decent players and management team etc etc, Never materialised as i think the company went through some hard times.

Just look at Somerset now.

Think there was also an issue with his wife wanting to be further south?

"Jim Weir has been appointed as the new manager of Scottish Football League Second Division side Arbroath."

Hope he does end up in management eventually.. another potenial ICT leader

Absolute legend.. my favourite player to wear the ICT jersey, never/rairly put in a bad performance for us.... absolute fecking legend!!

As mentioned Ayr were competing with Livingston for promotion to the SPL. Whilst Livi were spending money they didn't have Ayr also were handing out some tasty contracts to players. Sheerin was one of them moving on a bosman to United and more than doubling his wages in the process. Ayr also signed Pat McGinlay and John Hughes among others. Posters might also remember Gary Teale and Glynn Hurst playing for Ayr around that time as well.

As we all know Livi went on to win the league, Ayr couldn't sustain the high wages and players left as costs mounted and the club fell away before being relegated to SFL2 and Sheerin himself moved on to Aberdeen reuniting with Paterson and scoring a few goals for Aberdeen but he was generally viewed as a poor signing by some Aberdeen fans.

My favourite Paul Sheering memory was in a BCC Semi v Livingston and he scored the only goal of the game in the final couple of minutes. He ran across to the terraching behind the goals where he met the celebrating fans and grabbed me and hugged me. I had Paul Sheerins sweat and general moistness all over me and I refused to wash it off. Then I realised how much I smelled and jumped in the shower.

I didn't realise that in his 5 years at Southampton he failed to make a single first team appearance !

I mind a game againt, maybe Killie, when he was in posession in the midfield and was being rapdily closed down by two opponents. "Look out Paul" we yelled. Sheerin flicked it up and skipped out of the two tackles, one of whom was on his blindside. The two opponents clashed into each other, and were both grounded requiring medical attention. Pure Keystone cops.

He could usually make something happen.

I mind him skinning Andy Alky McLaren in a cup game in Inverness and the Killie man responded by kicking Peanuts leg and getting himself a red card for his petulance
