Markus is the younger brother of boss Mixu and signed for the club at the beginning of September 2005. Paatelainen joined Aberdeen on a 6 month contract last January but was released at the end of the season. He can play on either wing or in the centre of midfield and has been involved at under 21 level for Finland. Markus has been in sparkling form this season winning five consecutive Fan's Player of the Month awards. Suffered a serious injury away to Elgin City and had been sidelined for two months. The flying Finn made his comeback at Hampden Park and was fittingly a key player as Cowden clinched the Championship at home to Elgin. Markus capped a fantastic first season at Central Park by picking up a plethora of awards: Scottish Professional Footballers' Association Third Division Player of the Year, Supporters Club Player of the Year, Willie Anderson Trophy (Blue Brazil Fans' Player of the Year) and the Eric Mitchell Trophy (Players' Player of the Year). Markus made 24 (1 sub) appearances and scored 6 goals.

Yup, mad foreign name, "proper" footballers hair, maybe he'll even take to wearing a headband as he skips past defenders. Already a good signing, I'd say!

good signing, know the player well, perfect replacement for ... err.....  anybody, another squad player  :021:

good signing, hopefully we,ll sign 2-3 more and htis isnt it

EWS and doubters. The problem I encountered with this specific signing is due to the linguistics in the psychic air space. You may recall that I predicted that we were after a gem from the Emerald Isles at a knock down price. Well the tea cup was a bit hazy and I read out Pat O'Linnen. Could appen to anyone. :004:

Best Scandinavian signing since Vetle Andersen.

*gulp*

Even though he is from that famous and celebrated footballing nation, Finland, I welcome this signing. Hurrah for spending money! Hurrah for buying from lower league clubs! Hurrah for a thorough scouting policy!

Europe here we come.

McConalogue?

Oh for Gods sake!

You are right there, I know hes young but is he not passed it already

Best Scandinavian signing since Vetle Andersen.

He has to be the best as vetle andersen is the only one

Marcus is becoming a quality player and should prove to be one of those who will show CC up for the astute manager he is. The lad did near lose his leg after suffering a blood clot when he broke it. Not sure if that was at Aberdeen. He has now fully recovered and has benifited greatly from Mixu's guidance and the support of Cowdenbeath. I can see him going on to be a Finnish national squad regular.

Excellent signing so long as his style can fit in with ours.

Apparently he likes to take defenders on - go past them - and score goals....  :022:

I think that will fit in very nicely with our style of play.....!!! :023:

I agree... this could very well prove to be an astute signing by CC.... I wonder how he managed to persuade Marcus P that Inverness is not somewhere north of the back of beyond.... :024:

isnt most of finland in the back of beyond,so maybe sneck will feel like home to him,i hear we beat dundee utd and killie to sign him, christie has signed 2 players both look impressive, not bad for a manager hwo was being slagged of as having no contacts in the game :006:

Hasn't CC signed three players so far? Rankin, McSwegan and now Put~a~line~on. Official site says the latter is on a pre-contract though.

Aye there is definatly a lack of communication regarding this deal.

If there are any officials out there could you tell us the situation re- Paatelainen

The official report as at friday 12th is that Marcus signed a pre-contract on wednesday night after agreeing terms with ICT and will be joining us at the end of the season. However, Charlie and Grazza are in talks with Cowdenbeath in the hope of having the lad released before the window closes.

He wasn't in the squad for todays game - not sure if that means anything or not

Even if he had signed for us now, CC had said he wouldn't join us until Monday so I wouldn't have expected to see him in the squad.

Don't think it would be a good idea to drop him straight into the starting 11 anyway - he (and the squad) will need a few training sessions together under their belt to acclimatise first.

So it's the Flying Finn to win then? Or does his hairdo make him Mr Racy Pacy? :021:

Or was that Jackie Hather who used to electrify the punters with his pace on the wing fer Aberdeen in the year past dot..eh?

But, och, it seems like he's no vindictive  so he won't be gaeing intae the Sin Bin too often then? :014:

Offically now our player - compensation agreed with Cowdenbeath  :022:

Wonder if he will make the bench for Sunday?

Anyone have an idea of the settlement fee??

Gomis went for about 10k to United so hopefully it is less than that
