New keeper - who do we go for?

With Broonie going, we will be signing another keeper, the only question is will it be back-up to Fraser or a new first choice? At the very least, it surely needs to be someone who can provide competition for a starting place at SPL level.

So who do we go for?

Taking into account the fact that we won't want to pay much of a transfer fee, I wonder if the likes of Bryn Halliwell (currently warming the bench at St Johnstone) might enter Charlie's thoughts? Or can we do better than that?

Just heard a nasty suggestion that CC is currently in discussions with Rab Douglas :010:

Would not suprise me if we go over the bridge again..... :020:

Please not Samson, have seen him play a couple of times and he was terrible. We definately need someone new in though

Douglas is a very good shot stopper, not sure on his handling and kicking though?

remember though he is very young and would probably be happy to sit on the bench... realistically we are going have trouble attracting a decent keeper to sit on the bench

That doesn't mean the keeper should be garbage by default. He should be worthy of challenging the number one at the club. If we signed Samson I'd rather have Stuart Garden in goals.

Paul Gerrard has played the last 3 games for SU because Kenny is out for several weeks with a groin strain and he's looked pretty poor

He was an absolutely fantastic stopper and consistent first choice for Oldham Athletic after coming up from the U21s to replace the injured John Hallworth - who then never got a look-in for the next four years till Joe Royle lured Gerrard to Everton for a cool £1M. Very much in command in the box, and a great reflex keeper for those last-gasp fingertip saves. Instrumental in keeping Oldham in the Premiership in - ah, there's the rub, it'd be 1993...

if we signed samson i'd rather see grassa in goals!!!

Sheffield United play without a reserve goalkeeper on the bench, they have an outfield player who practices for that role - and he did OK when I saw him pull on the gloves a few weeks back.

Roscoe has done it in the past, why not give him some coaching? Goalkeepers are like drummers, you can get any half-wit to fill in if you need to.  :music02: Nobody can tell the difference.

What about Kenny Arthur of Plastic Whistle, was he no' involved in a couple of Scotland squads a wee while back? Must be decent.

Surely he'd jump at the chance to get SPL football, obviously he have to displace Fraser though.

Fraser will get a big cheer when he comes on the pitch.

Deserves all credit and the Number 1 chance to shine. :022:
