Good article on the Nairn County website entitled Caley Thistle Connections

Have a wee read ahead of tonights game at Station Park with Ross Tokely the man in charge at Nairn, and he also knows a thing or two about our youth players having previously helped at Inverness with the coaching.

That’s exactly the type of message Ferguson should be giving our young players and it will boost their confidence.

His interview on Saturday will have done nothing for them.

He needs to learn how to get the best out of people, and fast!

Best of luck to the boys in tonight's game. I can't make it but it will be on my mind. C'mon Caley .:ictscarf:

At least one of the goalkeeper’s came through our Development Teams (just not our)!

Well done boys. It must be DF's nurturing influence having such a good influence.🤣

Good first half performance, second half pretty even.

Well taken goals and we could have had a few more before the break.

Some rough challenges by Nairn.

Picks for me were Bray, MacLeod, Thompson and Mackay, but all the players worked hard. Yes, MacLeod made a poor pass which led to the Nairn goal, but these things will happen with the youngsters as they learn, and otherwise he was controlling the midfield.

I was within earshot of Ferguson and he was positively encouraging and coaching the youngsters, which was good to hear.

Raith will be a tough challenge, but there is hope. Gilmour will be back for it. Nicolson a month or so away from returning.

Aye their striker (Barron?) had a lecture from the referee after flying into a challenge from behind late in the first half. He wasn't seeing much of the ball as our defence was assured first half so frustration looked to have set in.

Much slicker pitch cut shorter than Grant St & a bit if rain all helped our passing we were much better first half compared to Saturday.

Billy Mackay showed how effective he still is when he gets a chance in the box a really well constructed and well taken goal for 1-0.

All the changes disrupted the second half but another good run out for the young team.

The pre match warm up at Station Park .. Bollan actively involved & Ferguson watching on as manager fair enough ... but what exactly is Kellachers role in this dream team he looks completely detached !

The team moved the ball better at times tonight but still frustrating to watch us overplay on the edge of the box, then get hit on the counter attack. I think our defensive options are good but we need to strengthen the midfield and attacking options and a backup GK is a must. Macloed showed up well at times but he and Nixon got caught out for the goal. Bray was very quiet again and didn’t really get into the game. Brooks and Longataff were wasteful in front of goal and Billy showed what’s he is capable off when he is in the box.  Walker lead the young team through the second half and Cairns and McKay looked promising. I think we really need to get behind this team as fans and back these promising young players. It’s going to be a roller coaster season.

Looking at Ferguson's comments to the press after the game he has no intentions of changing the style of play this season.  So it's 5 at the back and tippy tappy football to look forward to again.

Big Tokes definitely making his pitch for the job when it becomes available.

Was he still sticking with the damned 5 at the back?

I’d have him back in a heartbeat right now for a League One campaign

Two words. Richie Foran

Would love to see Tokes in the dugout, perhaps with some combo of Doran, Esson, Ridgers, but that may be more sentimental than sensible. He has been quietly doing some coaching and hopefully gaining his badges (?) so if at some stage he feels he has amassed enough experience, is ready and has proven himself at his current level then why the heck not. I am sure he would crawl over broken glass for ICT as a manager given his history and loyalty to the club over the years. If we are using the current manager as a benchmark, then the bar is not that high!

Yep the Richie Foran experience certainly gives you the jitters when thinking about bringing back a club legend but I don’t feel Tokes is another RF - and I most certainly do feel he’d do a far better job with our youngsters than Ferguson - the bar has indeed been set very low now.

To be honest, I think Tokes could be a very uniting figure.  To the older fans out there, we remember him as a player through all 4 divisions. Every time we went up, people wrote him off, but he proved them wrong time and time again. Thats the stuff of legends and kind of embodies the ethos of ICT "punching above our weight" which if ever we needed, we need it now.  To the younger players, he seems to have become a bit of a mentor, and they can likely relate since he has played in every senior division in Scotland plus the Highland League. I think he could be incredibly impactful because of that, especially if we have to rely on youth for a few years. If he were to get a highly regarded youth coach as an assistant, for example someone like Ryan Esson, then maybe that could be a dream team.   [obviously players treated so badly recently coming back to the club would require several people in leadership positions - not just the manager - to be out the door before that could even be a possibility]. Slightly off-topic, but my son bombards me with football stats he has picked up and my answer to every player question is Ross Tokely! (except when he expects it and I say Bobby Mann or Charlie Christie). He hears it so much, that he has created "Ross Tokely" in his FC24 career mode, and he was won everything ... multiple Champions leagues, world cup, all of it with an average of 8-9 goals a game  . (if only that were real)

On the other side of the coin, even if he were agreeable to it, would we really want to expose him to what appears to be a particularly toxic swamp as his first experience of managing in the senior leagues? He has not got the managerial experience yet, and if it all goes pear-shaped due to circumstances beyond his control, or his inexperience, then I personally would not want to see his status at ICT tarnished because of others or because he was thrown in at the deep end without a lifeline.

On balance, I have to say Ross Tokely - future manager of ICT... someday. just not today!
