WILSON MUST STAY!

Just a thought not on sympathy but based on the fact he has skill, is determined, is experienced and always plays better after Christmas.

In a young team I agree with Barry that experience is vital. The supporters still like him and who cares if he is used sparingly. A few months more from him is the least we can expect the club to provide for. Then next year he can go and manage Elgin.

Ralph even if you are been primed by those at the top

Well sorry for sticking up for myself but what do you expect when you come out with rubbish like that?

steady guys????feel the love.

mftj everyone is entitled to their opinion but I will not slag barry for not been a coach at this stage in his career

Ralph ok make youself clear you dont think barry deserves an new 5 month contract

Sorry stevico, give me a hug............................I am also wondering about some comments about Baza being a veteran and past it.............strewth, he's but a youngster,.................35/36

/37.......in his prime ye of little faith.

As I understand/recall, Wilson was doing coaching at the club before Brewster returned. I definitely remember him being in the dugout for reserve matches.

Different question I was responding to the statement that he MUST become a coach at ICT.

Do I think he deserves a new contract for 5 months? Probably

Do I think he'll get one? Unlikely

I think the wages will be released to attempt to bring in a similar/younger version or maybe go towards other areas in the team, Only MY opinion now, not those that have primed me to say so

:rotflmao: sorry mftj couldnt find a hug will that do?? we are talking about a legend here and why hasnt he been a coach through no fault of his own I am sure, who would you rather as a coach shearer or wilson, aside from that he has still got a lot to offer as a player IMHO

Ralph not getting personal here but where do you think we can find another barry overnight, perhaps your belief in our scouting system is better than mine

Barry's days as a player are done in the SPL IMO. But he must stay as a coach.

Don't you think if he MUST become a Coach he would have become one by now?

Eh?

As with most professional players, Barry wants to get the most out of his professional career before turning to coaching. The man is 36. By your logic, Brewster should not be coaching, as I don't recall Brewster at 36 hanging up his boots and going in to coaching.

i think this is what we call a catch 22...if we dont offer barry another 6months then we're losing an experienced player who can still do a job as a sub....but at the same time if we dont offer him the extension then that's freeing up money that can go towards keeping players like blackie etc at the club....

personally i have to go with second option as the first option may be a little short sighted, although i would prefer to keep barry im not sure the club can afford to do both.

Stevico1, I can give you the answer to that, they cant give him a coaching role, as he would show Brew up, he is a good person as well as a player, and possibly coach, he has the respect and support of the players, whilst great for him imagine the problems this would cause for Brew and his side kicks.

In my opinion he should get at least the chance to play untill the end of the season. I think if the club handles this badly then I will lose all of my little faith in the board/manager.

Our squad is so small we'd need to replace him anyway, so I don't buy the "use his wage to enhance other contracts" reasoning. If going down that line then we are already saving the wage from Marcus which could be used.

Brew pulled Barry from coaching the reserves last season and Barry feels he is being pushed out the door and not wanted. I think Barry will be leaving ICT in january and playing over the bridge for the rest of the season.

Economics may well dictate whether BW is offered a new contract. We have the likes of Cowie, Black and Fraser all negotiating and several youngsters having their contracts reviewed, the cash saved by releasing BW would be put to good use securing their services.

bazza is an ict legend, for many reasons and seasons

Most sensible post on this thread.

I think if the management team let Barry go the fans will loose any remaining faith they may have in them completely.

Never mind sentiment, Barry deserves to remain until the end of the season on merit alone.

This is correct. Still capable of turning a game. If he wasn't here already we should be trying to buy him, from County, probably.

And even if he's not playing week in week out, he has a lot of very valuable experience that can be passed on to the younger players. We should definitely be capitalising on that.

One would have thought that whilst Bary is still being selected and having a part to play that a compromise of some kind can be reached until the end of the season? Perhaps it isn't that straightforward if money is tight.

If he was on the bench every week, or not playing at all, you would have to understand the clubs situation, but this is not the case.

yours hopefully.

His best days are well behind him, time to get rid as we cant afford to carry passengers.County's his level now.

The days of him being a 90 minute player who could impact a game at any point are indeed well behind him but to call him a "passenger" is short sighted IMHO. He can still impact a game if used tactically. Put him on for the first 60 minutes of a game and make a planned substitution when its time for him to come off, or put him on for the last 30 in another planned substitution. Off the park, he is the sort of player - with or without coaching badges - who should be able to help, inspire, and give his experience to younger players such as Zander or Dougie. dont underestimate the mentorship role he could play.
