  1. From todays Scotsman: EDINBURGH PREPARES FOR A HIGHLAND INVASION BY EWEN "SQUIRREL" MCMURRAY Lothian and Borders Police have today announced that the force will be cancelling all leaves for Saturday 11th September 2010, as Leith prepares itself in readiness for a potential human hurricane. The National Criminal Intelligence Unit (NCIU) has received reliable information which suggests that two of the most notorious football "firms" in Scotland are planning to stage a full membership "union" - called the Gathering - at the Hibernian versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle SPL league game. The two firms - "The Mob" and "The Sesh Army" have been rumoured to have been in the throes of amalgamation for several months, and Police Surveillance Units have noted that there has been an increasing mingling of the two factions at recent ICT away fixtures. Bob Plod of the NCIU stated that "There has been evident increasing activity at many of the recent ICT matches where incidents have been monitored, reprted and observed - A fun loving Greenpeace Steward was jostled, hustled and abused at Greenock; a faction of the ICT support stood and chanted incessantly at Dumfries, the frivolity and pitch invasions carried out in Ayr were reminiscent of Wembley 1977 and there were mass expulsions from Tannadice where a steward was rushed to hospital with a scratched tupperware box." PC Plod advised members of the public to avoid direct confrontation but reassured them that many of the potential noise makers were fairly easily recognised - half of them are bald and fat and the others are young and trendy. Their apparent battle cry is "Stand Up For The Caley Jags" and the noise levels and atmospheric problems appear to increase when they perform their War dance or "Haka" which has the curious tradition of taking off one of their shoes and waving it in the air. Meanwhile the Leith Central Community Council met urgently yesterday. They are arranging for all local residents to be issued with free ear plugs and are in the process of soundproofing the local Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street where residents can gather as a "place of safety" on the day. It is also rumoured that the Council will be employing observers from the Noise Abatement Society who will be on the streets with Analogue Sound Level Meters. Lothian and Borders Police have also reassured the council that spot checks for megaphones and loud voices will be randomly carried out. The only local business that would appear to be opening its doors to the Highland Hurricane is the Iona Bar. Its owner Harry, who also runs the Ship Inn in Ayr, told us " There have never been any incidents in here before. We tape up the windows, use plastic glasses and most of the regulars are tone deaf anyway. I will be only too happy to allow any highlander to lubricate their tonsils pre match. Local Inverness historian, Ian Broadfoot, informed us that the Gathering was not a surprise to him but was probably an event that was always going to occur. He felt that "It is a natural progression, the marriage between the days of yore and the vivality of the present and the future" "The Mob are a post merger amalgamation of the "Caley Animals" and the "Heathmount Back Bar Brigade". They are all now mature and wise individuals in their thirties, forties and fifties. Whereas the "Sesh army" have grown over the last few years and are the future of ICT - a bit of a Fan Academy really. Some say it is a bit like a Robbie and Gary reunion but I would liken it more to a meeting between Johnny Rotten and Amy Winehouse. Reprentatives of the Mob and the Sesh Army were unavailable but we met with an AndyM of the "Real ICT Sweet Rustling and Gurning Society" who stated that " My fellow sweetie rustlers and I will be monitoring the situation and will be advocating that the throng are moved en masse if they make too much noise, preferably to Tynecastle." The final word laid with David Sutherland on behalf of the ICT Board. He assured all concerned that " We are appalled by these rumours and wish to distance ourselves from any support and/or encouragement. We have always done our uptmost to prevent an atmosphere at any of our games. It is not in the best interets of ICT to allow laughing, smiling, singing, standing and camaraderie to seep back in to the stands - we have a repuation to uphold and the TCS is a glowing example.

  2. I am sure I heard somewhere that Tommy Cumming is retiring at the end of this season .... someone like him who has given up his time for little reward (other than satisfaction) over a large number of years to ensure the pitch (and the kit) remains in pristine condition in all weathers and in all months of the year whilst remaining a background figure and unsung hero of the club is more deserving of some recognition than a player IMHO. I mean no disrespect to Ross, whose contribution and loyalty to ICT over the years has been phenomenal and definitely deserving of our (and the club's) recognition but I always feel the honours system is somewhat devalued by the sheer number of awards given to some people - especially sports men and women and actors/actresses - just for doing their normal "day job" ! There are so many people who just get on with life but make a positive contribution through volunteering, doing selfless tasks, charity work, service provision, etc who never get the recognition they deserve because they go about it quietly or almost anonymously and are not famous or at least well known.....

  4. The only way to end this sort of argument would be to play our games behind closed doors. As an added bonus, there would no cause for dissatisfaction with the pie kiosks, the stewarding, the announcer or the car parks.

  5. For the most part I think the majority of people appreciate the efforts of those in and around Section G. I also think that we finally reached a certain level of understanding between that area and the club in regards to what was acceptable and what was crossing the line last season. What I do worry about is that some within that group will seek to take the piss and push the limits to the point where it will be spoiled for everyone. A situation arose before where one or two were dragging the whole group down with their language and actions and it seems, from my own observations, that there's a danger of that happening again. Nobody on this thread has (seriously) suggested that people should sit quietly but some of the songs/chants aimed at Imrie crossed the line. My suggestion for those at the back of Section G....take heed of what has been said in regards such songs/chants and apply a bit of a sensibility check on yourselves before the club/stewards/police are forced to make an example of someone in order to get the point across and all the work that has been done in finding the happy medium is undone by one or two idiots. My suggestion for the (partially justified) dissenters....get some better fitting underwear and stop getting your knickers in a twist and/or blowing things out of proportion. One ill judged song/chant every once in a blue moon is not the end of the world or cause to tar a whole section of the support in the manner which you do. If you yourself are offended, then fair enough, speak up and let people know, but can we please stop with all this bollocks where you seem to get offended on behalf of others. Worry about yourself and if others are offended then leave it up to them to raise the matter themselves.

  6. You think if we use the "Section Gumbo" thing enough it will catch on? I might just have to join pie and bovril and have a wee word with the County fans and Caledonian108 they should help the cause. Sounds like a plan . Im confused who the kids on this forum are

  7. That is the main point, Section Gumbo have been fine up until Saturday but they seem to think they can get away with what they want, they can't there are laws to protect people who do not want to listen to the bile they are capable of. They have not learned, even though people have been dragged through the courts, banned for chanting abuse at stewards and removed from the ground for failing to follow the regulations. My suggestion is that section Gumbo stick within the rules, there is a complaint in the system now and I would expect that stewarding of matches would reflect this. As you said earlier concessions were made to section Gumbo so that they could create the atmosphere they want but these concessions, which bend the stadium rules, were not enough for them and they want to push the boundaries as far as possible. Section Gumbo do not run the stadium, they are not the only fans there, everyone else obeys the rules and so should they. There has already been one complaint made due to the attitude of people on here when concerns were raised why would anyone consider speaking up now to have their concerns ridiculed like mine were? No more speaking up here, straight to the club to complain now I think. I think we have all missed the point about you being without sin oh great one. I humbly apologise.

  8. I think it's not only good for Pele but also excellent for Huntly FC that Forbes is in there. The man is a Huntly FC legend, a gentleman... and an avid Coronation Street fan by the way! Over the years Forbes has done a massive amount for Huntly FC, both financially and through his business expertise and his special relationship with Pele played a big part in Huntly's enormous success in the early 90s which continued for a while under its own momentum after Steve came to Inverness. As long ago as 1985, Forbes also provided a groundbreaking sponsorship for the Highland League through his company RB Farqhuar. When Dougie McGilvray came in for Pele in 1995 Forbes, as Huntly Chairman, understandably did his best to keep his manager whom he had identified as a major talent. I don't know a lot about the inside story of Huntly FC at the moment but the recent departure of a Chairman at a time when they employed and then sacked a controversial manager and seem to be drifting on the field itself does seem to suggest that all may not be well behind the scenes. If this means that Forbes is going to have a beneficial effect for them at boardroom level as well as in support of Pele then this will be especially good news for the club. I was also just wondering what will happen in the immediate futureat Huntly? Will Pele take his customary half dozen or so games to make his influence felt or is the situation so bad there that there will be an immediate and ongoing shot in the arm?

  9. Your 'patter' is getting extremely tiresome. DC's fishing attempts are laughable as well.. Good effort. Nail was firmly hit on the head with Taffy's picture though. The thing that speaks loudest for me is that there aren't many people, maybe none at all from Section G posting on this thread. Although IHE must be smug as feck with all the fish he has been catching this weather. I'm from section G and I have posted several times, I don't think many of the guys at the back use this forum anymore, mainly due to ridiculous wind up threads like this. Whatever happened to slap on the wrist don't do it again, instead we have multi-paragraphed rants and childish bickering between adults?! And us young 'uns are supposed to be the ones acting like kids?

  13. The more I read these posts, the more I genuinely believe the club needs to introduce a 'quiet section', say section A of the north stand. In sincereity, how do you put up with the chants, singing etc of the away fans Dougal?

  17. Well if you would read what was written and try to understand why it was written then there would be no need for tempers to become raised and I would not have possibly instigated action from the club which may well see section gumbo become the focus of heavy handed stewarding in the future. I don't know about you but from my point of view things are hardly "heated" it is just people having a debate on the how to give TCS a better atmosphere or no atmosphere the way some people are acting and the fact that because of this thread you are going to write to the club is laughable. You really can't of thought it was that big of a problem if you were never going to do anything before this thread was started and there is really nothing that has been posted on here that would merit such a change of heart. I believe that i the past that the people who work for caley have said that they hold no responsibility for the actions of the people standing at the back of section G and they will not try and control them or something along those lines

  18. No you are wrong, the two options left are 1 Keep things as they are with anyone willing to join the singers buying a section G ticket, season ticket or any ticket available on the day, and the singers stop with the sectarian songs chants or shouts and the songs chants and shouts similar to the "Dougie Imrie paedophile" stuff which was belted out on Saturday. These over the top chants etc are inappropriate anyway but especially so due to the proximity to the family section. 2 The singers congregate elsewhere. People who buy family section tickets do so because the club has allocated a section of the ground for families to sit so that their children are not exposed to the bad element of football, as said before if these guys behaved that way on the street they would be dealt with by the police, this would also be true if someone in the crowd approached a police officer to complain about the chants heard on Saturday. No one wants to grass up a fellow fan but if the boys carry on the way they are it might just happen, there are families sat nearby. IHE you chose not to come to home matches because your behaviour has been deemed unacceptable and you are not willing to toe the line and calm down, maybe your posse should consider doing the same, if they cannot behave. Why is it ok to get them to move to another part of the stadium when they have been sitting in those seats for years but it is shouted down when you ask it to be the other way around to everybody else who sits in section G?

  22. I has to be pointed out that you can count on one hand or so how many 18 year old players have come into the SPL teams. It usually means the club thinks a lot of the players, as most managers would try play an experienced older player to fill the gap. It is a big pat on the back for Nick that Tel and Mo think he to be good enough. Our 3 league games so far has shown him to have a reasonable game, an excellent game and a reasonable game. You could say he has been as consistant as our team. I certainly beleive he will be an important player in our future

  23. Sorry boys, and IHE, but I have had a season ticket for Section G since the North Stand was completed and I have no intention of givingup my season ticket for somewhere else. I was there long before the "Singing Section" decided to camp in Section G after the "open seating area" was a no-go, due to over-stewarding. I enjoy being in Section G, no rain, no sun, plenty atmosphere. I also join in the singing, chanting, foot stamping and especially enjoy if someone bangs the drums (not often enough!) - where have all our drummers gone? Maybe I didn't enjoy the constant use of the 'c' word last Saturday but, I kept my mouth firmly shut then as I am not one of the "sweetie-rustlers" and have had plenty "craic" with the boy/young men behind me over the seasons/years. I did join in the chorus of "Oh Inverness" to try to encourage the team, especially in the final quarter of the game. Surely, not everyone is tarred with the same brush - I don't shout abuse about our team, or our supporters. Likewise this forum should perhaps do the same. I await the backlash - I usually get plenty when I post - which is why I seldom do.

  25. For God's sake, Scotty can we put an end to this? We've been through all of this tosh time and time again merely supplying a vehicle for others to go trolling (Andy M here, specifically) References to "section gumbo" etc. just reinforce it. My lad is in Section G. He's as gallus and loud as any of them, and even he was aware of the OTT nature of stuff on saturday, and for a need to tone it down. So they can and do learn from mistakes made. I've told him that if there's any nonsense, he gets hauled back to the family section PDQ where he can listen to his father rant. That's how behaviour is modified, not by Im offended/ I'm not offended/ I don't object to swearing/ I do object to swearing circular arguments that are singularly directed at alienating one group. There is no criticism here of your right to put your opinion forward, but there is of masquerading that opinion as fact and therefore not to be argued with. That is what forums like this are all about.

  26. He was at Fulham last season. Liverpool released him as he had a chocolate ankle that he was having trouble with for most of his two years at Liverpool. Gary was on trial back at County a couple months ago and I don't really know why we never signed him as I know he has great ability.

  29. Of course he isn't...he is only 18 and still learning.........and if it weren't for the fact that we have a small squad because of financial strictures...he wouldn't be seriously competing at this level..he would be sitting on the bench waiting until the game was won to get a go on the pitch at the tail end of the game........or getting games once the prospect of relegation was past, and gaining experience that way. Unfortunately, ICT has limited options and has to make the best of what it has available to it.. Beats me how those of you trashing Nick Ross's ability are not out there managing SPL football clubs........because you obviously feel you have more ability to recognise a promising player than Terry Butcher and Maurice Malpas....after only seeing him in three games, while they have watched him in training for the last year or more. And it astounds me that you have the cringe factor to the extent that you will happily trash an 18 year old with three starts under his belt..when, from what I can make out......the only players who were rated better than him in the Courier were Esson, Proctor, Munro and Rooney. Anyone care to start a thread trashing Odiambo, Hayes, Duncan or Cox........who do have the experience....are less lightweight and who performed no better than Nick Ross. No? I thought not! :irritated:
