  1. This, IMO, is part of the problem and one of the reasons for the lack of atmosphere at football matches these days. Everyone is far to "PC". Of course there needs to be boundaries in terms of what is acceptable in terms of songs/chants etc, but does it have to be the expense of having any kind of craic or banter at the expense of the opposition? Rangers screwed up and are in an almighty mess. Nothing any ICT fan sings/chants about that on Sunday is going to make it any worse so...no harm, no foul.

  3. I am afraid that our lack of a goalscorer was only too evident on Saturday. As most peeple have commented this was pretty dire stuff and the playing surface was a disgrace. We were the better of two poor sides in the first half and it was more even in the second half. Buchanan and Kirk both missed sitters and in the end a draw was probably the fairest result. Not sure if it was a 4-3-3 as it looked more like a 4-3-2-1 to me with Gnakpa and Hayes playing wide. Terry needs to figure out why we only appear to waken up at the start of the second half - our first half displays recently have been gash. ESSON :clapping: Didnt really have much to do - no chance with the goal. MEEKINS :clapping: He does get forward but his final ball/cross is usually disappointing. PROCTOR :clapping: Again I have to feel a bit sorry for the lad as for most of the time he plays well but then always appears to have that 2 or 3 mistakes which is clearly lack of concentration and confidence - and again we were lucky that he didnt cost us the game. GILLET :clapping: As I have alluded to before I feel that he is made for the "libero" role although he would evidently be better paired off with a more conventional centre half. SHINNIE :clapping: Nothing spectacular but safe enuff HAYES :clapping: I could have given him a real slap as he simply is not living up to his potential. He lost the ball on countless occasions but then he comes up with the goods to save a defeat. FORAN :clapping: :clapping: Thought that he was immense - a real captain's performance. I have never really thought that he could perform in central midfield but he certainly proved me wrong on Saturday. TANSEY :clapping: Possibly didnt look good as he had to be compared with Foran. Personally I feel that he is another who is lacking in confidence and needs a goal or a good shot on target to bring that early season promise back. GNAPKA :clapping: Once he realises that he is not a wonderboy and starts playing as a team player and not an indivdual on show - the better. SUTHERLAND :clapping: Again I was unsure exactly what role Shane had been given. I still feel that he is wasted anywhere other than being an out and out stiker. ROSS :clapping: Again given the striker role and, to be fair, did OK although I feel that it is yet another stop gap. He is far more effective in a deeper role - in a role that used to be provided by Foran. Also need to add that the two substitutions fairly warmed things up. Tudor Jones and mckay both earned :clapping: - Tenpole still looks as if he is in slow motion but his distribution could not be faulted whereas McKay's energy and chasing had been missed prior to his appearance. I concede that we have had chop and change for a variety of reasons but I still feel that Terry and Mo do not have a first X1 in mind.

  4. The thing is that there is a lot wrong in the world and lots of gloom and doom about, so if there is a chance to celebrate something, then why not? The natural thing might be to leave things to the 25th anniversary but if part of the plan was to involve some of the original team they they will be that much older and some will have slown down a fair bit - and let's face it, some of them were pretty slow 20 years ago. Those 5 years can make quite a difference once you're in your 50s. That's not to say there should not be a celebration after 25 years as well but I just like the idea of something, albeit something fairly small, to celebrate the continuing success of our club on a regular basis. Marking the success on a regular basis means we don't take the club for granted, instead we strengthen the identify of the club by celebrating it.

  8. im to young to remember the merger im probably 1 of very few on here actually younger than the club itself, but the way i see it is that the people that are hung up on the merger stuff must be the sort of person that cant move on, and must be very shallow. especially when you see the sucess thats came from the merger.

  9. Agree with CaleyD. We can copy the Celtic "we're having a party when Rangers die" chant, but that wouldn't bother me if I were a Rangers fan for the simple reason that Rangers are not going to die. As has been said on other threads, Rangers have a high ongoing income and the adminstrators need that to continue to allow Rangers to pay their Tax debt. They will need to sell players or let the contracts of highly paid players lapse and so are likely to have a difficult 3 or 4 years. But once the mess has been sorted out they will be a much more attractive prospect for investors and they will come back leaner and fitter. By all means let's have a bit of fun at Rangers' discomfort and enjoy it whilst we can because at the end of the day they will have the last laugh..

  10. Don't think Ross has done anything to merit being dropped, and what good would that do his morale having just scored? Nothing worse for a first team player to be honest. Defence needs a re-shuffling once again, however I don't think dropping Meekings is the solution. By all accounts he had a good game v Celtic away, and again did well yesterday and should start again. While changes should be kept to a minimum for a game like this so as not to disrupt the squad too much, Gnakpa could be more effective as an impact substitute I reckon. I'd go with: Esson Meekings Williams Gillet Shinnie Jones Foran Ross Tansey Hayes McKay Subs: Tuffey, Proctor, Tokely, Piermayr, Gnakpa, Sutherland, Tade The starting line up is strong enough to cause The Queen's XI problems. Jones coming back in after yesterday's performance to strengthen the midfield and hopefully keep Davis quiet, severely limiting their creativity. The Huns defence is very average IMO and with Ross, Tansey and Hayes helping support McKay as much as possible. 2 from Tade/Sutherland/Gnakpa to come on in the 2nd half and take advantage of tired legs. A 3-0 win for ICT (Hayes, Foran and Tade scoring) and Ally McCoist to admit afterwards that he's suffering from Depression, with Kirk Broadfoot appealing to the nation for "Any spare change pal?" in a scene reminiscent of Baron Taylor's St on a gloomy day. Lee McCulloch apologises to the Rangers fans for lying about being a professional footballer and retires to take up a career in cage-fighting.

  11. Having stayed in dunfermline, i have only just got back in so thought i would give my thoughts on the game. All in all i thought the game was pretty poor form both sides. Caley had the better of the 1st half with some good passing and moving in the midfield. I thought foran was excellent with his passing and distibution and there was a lot of running off the ball. All that was lacking was the final ball into the box and when there was a chance on goal the finishing was very poor. Dunfermline did not deserve a 1st half lead, good free kick but very lucky with were the ball ended up. Unlucky goal to lose. I thought in the 2nd half, we were very very poor in the 1st 20mins and were lucky not to go more behind. All the good passing from the 1st half and the moving off the ball just stopped, there was no width and we resorted to using the frustrating long ball tatic which was never going to work. sutherland had a poor game and mckay was much better when he came on, held the ball up better and look much more confident in going forward and did excellent in the goal build-up. Tudor-jones was also more effective than gnakpa when he came on although i thought gnakpa had a decent 1st half. All in all i think a draw was a fair score over 90 mins but a dissappointing game. Esson - not a lot to do but did well when needed Meekins - Average game, did well when going forward Proctor - Poor game, think tokely for the next game Gillet - Not bad considering he's a left back Shinnie - Decent game Hayes - Poor 1st half but improved in 2nd, great cross for the goal Foran - excellent in 1st half, great awerness Ross - Right place at right time for the goal, solid game sutherland - Poor game, Lets hope tade is back soon, he;s been missed Gnakpa - Ok 1st half, poor 2nd Tansey - Played well, few cheep mistakes but all in all a satisfactory game

  12. This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the last 20 years and the 109 years of history from before that. Caley Thistle wouldn't exist as we know it if it wasn't for the merger. If anyone is offended, then that is their problem. As CaleyD said in a previous post: "Good chance to bury this fear that exists about all things "merger" related and for club and fans to view our heritage (from both clubs) as something to be proud of."

  13. IMHO the merger is still far too delicate and tender a subject to some and the only thing that an official series of anniversary events would achieve is to re-open wounds that are still not far enough from the surface The best thing for everyone would be to let the 2014 anniversary pass by and maybe wait till 2024 when feelings are more diluted I do think the idea of releasing memorabilia strips in 2014 would be a great idea and it could be a real money spinner for the club Better still maybe ICT could play in the Caledonian strip for all the home games that season and a Thistle strip for away games if they had to if there was a colour clash with the home team i.e St Johnstone,County, Orcs if they are still in existence etc Maybe the supporters trust could put the release of these memorabilia strips to the club at the next opportunity Dougal

  14. In reality, how many jobs are we talking about? As has been pointed out elsewhere, the "250" figure seems to have been plucked from mid air and the real figure is about 180....of that there's only about 40 or so full-time staff outside of the coaching staff and players. If players are good enough they will get places elsewhere and if they are not good enough then chances are they would have been looking for new jobs at some point anyway....same goes for coaching staff. If Rangers are stripped back to the bone then there's a good chance that a large chunk of those 40 staff will go anyway...and some will likely be out the door before the club exits administration (be that via CVA or Liquidation). It all boils down to maybe 20 jobs which are of any real concern. In regards to the money Rangers bring in to Scotland....you surely have to be kidding!!! Let's not forget that (win or lose) Rangers have denied the public purse of around £35 Million by not bringing money in to Scotland (UK). They also send a lot more of their income abroad by purchasing foreign players than they spend here. If anything they have a negative impact on the economy. One final thing...How many times have Rangers stated a desire to ply their trade south of the border? Just one more action that shows they don't give two hoots about the Scottish Economy. When all is said and done, there's absolutely no good reason...certainly not one that serves public benefit...why Scottish Politicians should be sticking their neb in and doing anything to try and save Rangers FC.

  15. Very disappointed with Alex Salmond today courting the votes of the Unionists. He said that the most important thing here was the survival of Rangers football club. Wrong Alex! The most important thing is that the tax payer gets as much money possible out of the criminals who run that business.Whether or not Rangers' survival is good or bad for Scottish football is not the issue here. Those running the club, past and present have been deliberately withholding money from the taxpayer - money which could be used for a whole raft of essential public services which are being squeezed at the moment. Carer support for the elderly, books for school kids, repairing crumbling roads, investing in the NHS - you name a worthy use of public spending and Rangers football club is stopping it happening. It is extraordinary that there is a mindset in this country that almost accepts failure to pay tax as a bit of bad luck and those who fail to pay can negotiate with the authorities to agree to pay back whatever minimal amount of their debt they can get away with. They then start again buying into a debt free company owned by their mates who bought the assets at knockdown prices. They then find new ways in which to spend money they haven't got and steal more from the taxpayer. Every asset of the club should be sold and those responsible for the theft should have their personal assets including money hidden in other companies identified to pay back as much of the debt as possible. They should be allowed nowhere near a football club again.

  16. There were emotional scenes last night as hundreds of tearful fans held a candlelit vigil outside the home of Whitney Govan, the faded singer whose tragic demise was completed when she drowned in a bath of buckfast at the weekend. A brief announcement was made to Whitney’s mourners by Craig Shyte, the Chief Executive of her label Rangers Records, after which fans spontaneously burst into a chorus of her smash hit “I will always love to booooooo”. The singer’s rise to stadium filling stardom commenced in the 1980s, although she proudly traced her heritage as far back as 1690. After being mentored by the legendary entertainer Andy Cameron, her success seemed unstoppable, and she achieved a remarkable 9 number ones in a row. Whitney also picked up dozens of awards in her homeland, and even when the hits dried up, she continued to dominate at the MOPO awards (Music of Protestant Origin). Her huge and loyal fan base was drawn from all parts of society, from members of the royal family to sports journalists and football referees. Rangers Records are understood to be planning on cashing in on the wave of sympathy by re-releasing a compilation of the star’s greatest hits. 1. Didn’t we almost have it all? 2. I wanna dance with somebody (who has an unhealthy knowledge of Irish history) 3. Where do broken huns go? 4. How will I know (what to do with myself at weekends) Due to the unique sound and lyrics associated with Rangers Records, her particular brand of soul quickly became known as R-Soul. Live performances were renowned for the vocal backing of an enormous choir of R-Soul singers. At the height of her fame, in a move which wowed the world of showbiz, drama queen Whitney worked with one of Hollywood’s leading men, Kevin McCoistner and starred on the big screen. However, when the big screen stopped working, a riot broke out. McCoistner’s role in the movie was to protect the diva, with whom he became romantically involved, but on Saturday night there was nothing even he could do to save the star from herself. The fabulous wealth amassed by the glittering performer had been frittered away over the years on a succession of talentless session musicians, eventually leaving her unable to settle her tax bills. Craig Shyte had stepped in last year, promising to revive her career, but Whitney’s live performances deteriorated further and she ended up just another desperate crack whore controlled by a dubious pimp. Many distraught fans called yesterday for a commemorative statue to be placed in tribute at the site of the star’s home. But Rangers Records have indicated that the only lasting legacy they can afford is a bust. “Not just a little bust” a spokesman clarified, “a completely bust”.
