Just noticed in the Courier that David Balfe has died: "David was a successful songwriter penning amongst others, Chelsea Football Club's "Blue Is The Colour" and "Beautiful Sunday"." He also wrote ICT's first club song, "Bring It On Home". I am aware that a lot of folk used to slag it off, but it's a catchy, memorable tune. Not at all bad. An airing at the next home game would be fitting. With condolences and sympathy to his family and friends. (And, for those a wee bit younger than me, no, he was not in The Teardrop Explodes - that was another with the same name.)2 points

Great bloke, who many years ago made my claim to fame happen, after playing football for Ardersier I was enjoying a beer in the Gun Lodge, I'd known David before and got chatting to him, he then introduced me to Ozzy Osbourne, who with his band were recording at Flemington in Dave's studio! Played a couple of games of darts with the band then had to leave. Boys at work didn't believe me until Dave came in last year and verified it.2 points

David Balfe, in the aforementioned "Bring it on Home" extended version (B-Side) at 4mins 30secs, predicted that ICTFC would qualify for Europe.2 points

We have, for quite some time, been subjected to messages from the club which fall into two categories.... 1. Constantly seek to blame "fans not showing up" for all of our woes and threatening what might happen if they don't support the club. This narrative is one which threatens people who aren't coming to games anyway....so if things deteriorate, they're not going to give any more of a hoot than they do now. As such, it's a narrative which will achieve nothing positive. 2. Generates a sense that the more money you give the club, the better a fan you are. The club have been milking the existing fanbase for about as much as they can for a long time, so to suggest that we now have some kind fo fan class system based on the level of financial support an individual affords is only going to alienate the very people the club needs now more than ever. If you want to rally a support then look back to Terry Butchers time with ICTFC. He was a man who rarely made comment about people not coming to games and/or supporting the club; choosing instead to concentrate on praising those who did. It's something he does even to this day and if you look at the recent video doing the rounds from Ross Grant where Butcher is interviewed, he talks about how great the fans were who supported the team and not decrying the fact there wasn't more of them. I have spoken to a few people at the club about this in the last few months and tried to explain/warn that it comes off exactly how this facebook post by Jim Oliver has been received and interpreted by many. IMO, ill-advised and poorly crafted comments such as this...and the wider narrative being employed by those speaking on behalf of ICTFC right now...is doing more damage than performances and results on the park which have been pretty decent apart from a couple of recent blips. Time to flip the script.1 point

Why not just hold the event at the stadium. There is a function room and also a bar. Keep the money inside the club instead of putting money behind a hotel bar.1 point

The problem with large events in Inverness is that there is a limited choice of venue. If you want to book an event at the Drumossie for a Friday or Saturday night then the booking needs to be made a year or so in advance and certainly before the fixture list is out. It is pot luck whether the date coincides with a home fixture or not. Unfortunately on this occasion, not only was it an away fixture but a more distant one. The issue for me, therefore, is whether the event should be on a Saturday night at all. For me personally, I think the Hall of Fame event shouldn't be seen as a fund-raising event. If it makes a profit, then great, but it should be about players past and present and the fans who watch the team week in and week out. It should be about celebrating achievements of the past and making connections between the fans and the current players. It should be priced to make it accessible for fans who simply can't afford to attend events like Saturday's event at the Drumossie. There is a sponsors' night coming up on Thursday 14th November and I see no reason why future Hall of Fame events shouldn't be on a weekday too. Of course, we all know that the club is short of money and therefore fundraising events are necessary. If there are some folk attending such events who would need directions to the ground were they ever to go to a game, then that's fine by me as long as they are paying a good sum for their ticket, buying raffle tickets etc. Hopefully the experience will encourage them to get more involved with the club one way and another. Maybe with the 25th Anniversary coinciding with significant financial concerns and personnel changes at the club, there has been an over-emphasis on appealing to those with deeper pockets. Whilst it is great if those with deep pockets can help the club out in some way, it is vital that the club does not lose sight of the fact that the long term future of the club depends on the numbers of fans coming through the turnstiles. If the fans feel taken for granted and alienated and stop coming as a result, then all the fundraising will count for nothing.1 point

Inverness CT 0-2 Kelty Hearts - League 1
tm4tj posted an article in Reports 2024-25,
FULL TIME 0-2: After last weeks win at Cove, this was a massive disappointment. The only thing in our favour was that Annan lost as well and they remain three points behind us. It's the Caley Thistle Way; one step forward and two steps backward. Another difficult game next week away to Stenhousemuir.-

Queen of the South 4-1 Inverness CT - League 1
tm4tj posted an article in Reports 2024-25,
Jack Hannah scored his first goal for Queen of the South after Alfie Stewart had opened the scoring for the visitors. Queens eventually routed the Caley Jags 4-1 with further goals from Jordan Allan and a brace from Admin Books. He really has it in for us and was a pain in the rain.-
