The "Signed Up For Next Season" Thread
Caley Mad In Berks replied to Renegade's topic in Caley Thistle
Couldn't agree more about McKay as penalty taker. In the matches I saw, either live or on TV, I was never convinced by him. Quite a few of his penalties, even those he scored, were poorly hit and too close to the keeper for my liking. I can't suggest who might be better, but I hope it is something that the coaching team is addressing in training. -
Seems like a decent opportunity for him. I'd expect him to take it. Rossco to take over at Wick???
-
Maybe Willie Bruce will come out of retirement! He must be late 80s (if he is still around!). Caley's best ever keeper imo, but perhaps that is a cue for an entirely new thread!
-
Good luck to him. I, for one, would not have minded seeing him back at ICT, as back-up to Esson, and possible challenger for the no. 1 jersey.
-
The pre split fixtures certainly haven't been kind from an 'income' point of view. So lets just make sure we make top 6 again, and, as a bonus, a Scottish Cup run would be nice. Sod it, lets have a League Cup run too.

Pre-Season & Charlton away (merged)
Caley Mad In Berks replied to caleydawson's topic in Caley Thistle
I'll be going from Reading. Maybe one or two others as well. Currently thinking about train so that we can have a few bevvies! Train from Southampton comes through Reading I think. Maybe we can liaise on times later, if you decide on going by train? -
Pre-Season & Charlton away (merged)
Caley Mad In Berks replied to caleydawson's topic in Caley Thistle
Charlton fixture is a real bonus for me. It will be like a 'home' game for me. And Charlton's ground is the only one in London I've not been to! Hope we manage to get a few there to cheer the lads on. -
It will be interesting to see if any of these seven can claim a regular 1st team place. We have done well in the past recruiting from the lower reaches of the English leagues. To be honest this doesn't really surprise me greatly. I don't think there is a huge difference in standard in the English leagues below Championship level. And it is in these lower leagues that the majority of the SPL (apart from the one remaining ugly sister) would find themselves if they magically transferred to England. More worrying is the lack of Scots on our books. Can't be healthy for the long term state of the game in the north, nor for increasing our support by encouraging more youngsters to attend matches if they don't have any local 'heroes' to identify with. I hope this year we will see one of our local lads be given a chance to claim a regular place in the starting X1.

The mods will no aloo much more of this.

Like others above, I think he would be a decent signing to replace Reguero. He could well push Esson for number 1 spot now.
-
Very good news. It was taking so long I was thinking he was offski!
-
Assuming it is the club's decision to let Hogg go, I feel we've got it wrong. He is well worth another season based on the few games he has played in recent weeks.
-
Well, how disappoining was that? We could have been out there all day and not scored. Someone on here suggested Fraser's injury would be good for us. Well, County could have played without a keeper at all for all the work Gallacher had to do. No midfield at all. Easy to say we missed Draper, Tudor-Jones, Foran etc but we surely could have been more competitive than we were, even without the stars. A great pity that a really good season has been marred by poor performances at crucial times, ie League Cup semi, and both last week and this week. Have we got the bottle for it when the chips are down? Oh well, I'll just go off and take solice in a wee dram. No doubt in a few weeks time when next season is just around the corner the pain of the last two weeks will have eased and I'll become optimistic once more.

I echo the sentiments expressed by Davie in the opening post, and I'd just like to wish the team and management all the best for this crucial game. I'd have liked to be there but I'm off on a golf trip early Monday, so just couldn't get back down here in time. Nevertheless, rest assured I and a few local ICT convertees will be having our own 'beach party' in our favoutite pub, and roaring the boys on watching it on Sky. Hoping for a great result without the need for 'Well helping us out.

Golobart on bench at Wembley
Caley Mad In Berks replied to Caley Mad In Berks's topic in General Football
Yes, a shame he didn't get a few minutes. But he must be chuffed, as I am, that his side got a thoroughly deserved victory in the FA Cup final. A true victory for the underdog, and keeps the 'romance' of cup competitions alive. I just hope Wigan can now pull off another miracle by winning their two last league matches and stay in the EPL, hopefully at the expense of Newcastle. -
I notice Golobart is on the subs bench for Wigan in the FA Cup Final this evening. Good luck to him. Hope he gets on for a few minutes at least.
-
ffs. All that possession and chances and we still manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. It would be sweet to 'do it in style' with a win on the beach next week, but I'd like to see 'Well take a point of both County tomorrow and St J next week, just in case! We do really like to do things the hard way.

I know what you mean, and I'm 600 miles away! There are still quite a few combinations of results which could see us into Europe. The most satisfying of course will be a handsome win against DU this afternoon. So good luck lads. I can safely say if we make Europe that this season will have been the most rewarding of all my 60 years watching Caley/ICT.

Don't think Everton are the type of club to have someone like Lennon. But, back on topic, no surprise that Moyes has gone to MU. He has obviously been favourite for it for years. Interesting that Fergie's retirement coincides exactly with Moyes's contract terminating at Everton. No compensation! Shrewd! I wonder when Moyes was tipped the wink, and so avoided renewing his Everton contract?

Don't be so negative. If we beat Dundee Utd and Celtic beat St J next week then the 2 matches Motherwell have will have no bearing on whether we are 3rd, 4th or 5th. However, if County and St J both beat Motherwell and we win our two remaining games, we could still get 2nd spot on goal difference. I like your thinking DD. I'd worked that out too, but we'll need 2 huge wins to overturn 'Wells current goal difference advantage.

Woken up this morning still chuffed to bits with that result. I have a question or two. Why was Tudor-Jones left out? Did he have a niggling injury, or was it purely tactical? Why was Hogg allowed to play after being sent off mid week in under 20s? And what a return to first team football he had by all accounts. Good on him. I hope we extend his contract again. Just listened to McCall's post match interview. Really gracious in defeat and no whining about the penalty or red card. Top man. Hope we can play like that again next week, and who knows, it could be an even bigger celebration then if other results help us out. But, its good to know that Europe is in our own hands. I'm sure we will not let it slip away.

What a result. I think it is just as well I was stuck in the car all afternoon. I don't think my old heart would have coped with listening to it live. A massive 'thank you' to everyone concerned in a magnificent victory, surely the best of the season. Europe is still in our own hands, and a big step closer. Can't wait for the highlights.
