Matchday Thread Stenhousemuir -V- I.C.T.
Caley Mad In Berks replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
I must admit I thought it was curtains when Foran missed the first penalty. But well done to the other lads for stepping up (especially the two youngsters, Morrison and Roberts), and seeing us through to the next round, and a step nearer to Hampden. All the stats from the game, possession, shots, shots on target, corners, in fact everything but goals, were well in our favour, so perhaps it wasn't such a bad performance after all. Anyway, roll on the next round.- 123 replies

The next big debate - surely it should be Inverness and Ross Caledonian Thistle County FC. And the new stadium must be at Muir of Ord, a ground we've always done well at. I feel another book from Mr Bannerman coming on.

Histrionics? You cannot deny that ICT's red card record this season and OTJ's in particular, is nothing short of shocking. If you analyse the amount of games OTJ has missed since his signing, through injury, and now ill disipline, opening poster has every right to question whether he is a liability, and worthy of playing for ICT again.
-
Ffs. This season is rapidly becoming a joke through ill disipline. Surely that is OTJ's last game for ICT.

Well done to Andy, but he certainly doesn't do things the easy way. I really feared for him when it went to 2 sets all, after being 2 sets up. But he played his best tennis when it mattered. Both men were absolutely knackered after 5 hours of brutal tennis, well over 20 rallies of more than 20 shots, the majority of them hit flat out. One rally went to 54 shots! I hope Andy goes on now and wins a few more, to completely fulfill his enormous potential.

I hope you're right Luke. Keep the rose tinted spectacles nice and clean!

I think some people on here remember only Rooney's good times at ICT. Admittedly these were in his last couple of seasons with us. Before that he struggled to get a regular game and was only an infrequent scorer. Even when he was scoring regularly, many of them were penalties, which we get so rarely now, we've forgotten how to score them! He left us to further his career for all the right reasons, and I still hope it will work out for him down south. I don't think for a minute he'd come back here, and if he did many folks expectations of him would, I believe, be too high.

Butcher back to his old trick of making intelligent 90th minute substitutions, I see. Never mind eh! One of the happy clappers will be on here soon saying we're only one good win away from 6th spot!

Oh dear! If we didn't know it already, it looks as if we're already in a relegation scrap!. Long hard season I fear.

I agree 100% with the previous two posters. Armstrong was the main man in the late 90s/early 2000s, leading a team which was extremely good at controlling the media, many of whom had severe doubts about the legitimacy of his victories. I don't believe that up to a dozen people would now be prepared to perjure themselves in court just to prove him guilty. If he was clean he'd carry on fighting. It seems that drug cheats were able to outsmart the testers then, and perhaps even nowadays, in many sports.

I think you'll find Van Persie went to Man Utd!

Matchday Thread ICT v CELTIC - 25/08/12
Caley Mad In Berks replied to CaleyD's topic in Caley Thistle
After the relative euphoria of last week's fighting comeback at Hearts, it was down to earth with a bang today, although the two well taken late goals eases the pain a bit. The defending was woeful for most of the game. Why on earth were they standing watching at the first goal instead of competing for the ball? King was mostly culpible I think, and he also got well skinned for the second goal. The whole defence was asleep for the third goal. I've never really liked Meekings much as a full back (I can't get his desperate performance at home to Rangers at the end of Feb out of my mind), but I think he is currently a sounder option than Raven. When do we expect to have Hogg back? Surely he will ousting King on today's performance. Pass marks today from me only for Draper, Warren, McKay and, for the short while he was on, Pepper. At least we didn't play hoof ball today, but giving the ball away to Celtic so softly on most occasions, was unfortunately just as damaging. -

Wow, I'll take that. Fair play to the lads for not caving in when down to 10 in second half. Looking forward to seeing it on Alba now. -

Excellent post. I was lucky enough to get to Olympic Park twice last week ( Water Polo and Diving). It was brilliant to see how smoothly everything worked including trasport to/fro Stratford, entry through security, getting food. It was a real credit to the organizers. There was an incredible buzz about the Olympic Park. The 'gamesmakers'/volunteers were just amazing - really well trained, helful, cheerful - just a real credit to themselves and the country. Like most others I watched as much as I could on TV, and was enthralled by all of it. You can't put a price on the 'feel good' factor the Games created for the country. I know there are lots of mean spirited people (including some on here) who will say it was all a waste of money, but I really think they are wrong. If the Commonwealth games are even half as successful it will be great for Glasgow and Scotland.

It looks good to see us top of the table as results currently stand. I think it suits us. I recommend we stay there for a while.

My guess is that even if he had stayed with us he would have been a lot less effective than in that purple patch of about half a season with Wyness. Even during that spell his goals tally was boosted by all the penalties he took. He did absolutely the right thing in putting his family first by increasing his earnings.
