From todays P&J :

SPORTS BAR BID AT CALEY JAGS STADIUM

'Plans to build a sports bar at the ICT stadium have been submitted to Highland Council.

Building consultants G H Johnston have drawn up plans to change the concourse area into a bar. relocate turnstiles, alter emergency exits, and to form a new bar entrance and a smoking area'

There ya are then, sounds like a good idea, anyone who has been to Dunfermline's Legends bar will see how it can work.

Also ... you do have to consider that not everyone in an average crowd of 4000 at a home SPL game can fit into the bar !!!

Were you thinking of any fan in particular there Scotty?

 Charles ... rapier wit as always :011: .....

one thing that has gone uncommented so far is another thing fans asked about in BB in the last year or two ..... a smoking area ..... seems this is in the planning app too !

Why such negativity? Yes we have talked about it for years, but this is the first time I have actually see it get to this stage. If it doesn't go ahead it will be because the planning or licences aren't granted and not anything to do with the football club.

I don't think the aim is to make it exclusive in any way and while I don't imagine we would see Social Club prices, I don't think they would make them ridiculous as that would defeat the purpose of offering a fans facility.

Premier concourses are a fairly new concept and if it all goes to plan we would be one of the first grounds in Scotland to have one. Seems worth pursuing in my opinion.

If the club don't run the catering, then doubt they'd run a pub. Probably outsourced again. prices would be quite high i reckon, as there's no way the pub could serve/house hundreds in a short time. I'd imagine it will be an option forpeople with large wallets and big thirsts! Anyway, its a great resource, but i still think other venues, i.e. the Innes won't be affected too much for value and service.

:D

I've been in the bar at EEP. I've been in the bar at Kilmarnock and the one at Livingston. I would be very surprised if there were 200 people in either of these at any one time pre-match. I dont really think there's much of an issue as far as who is allowed in. Many people drive to the stadium so probably wont be interested in using the facility. Those who have established meeting places like Social club, Innes, Gellions, Heathmount, etc will continue to meet there. I could see the Social club being the operator of the licence. They have the experience.

I think its wrong to speculate on how it all might be run and who can or cant use the facility. We are only at the planning stage yet.

No speculation? bang goes 97% of posts on this forum :D

It will fly through planning, no worries there, and be ready for season kick off, too. Only speculation, mind! But of course the club will have to outsource it. I'd imagine it will be run by a company specialising in entertainment, etc. Im sure it will be a bit pricier than high st pubs, but i hope it's not too excessive.

Pardon my ignorance but where exactly are we talking about, location wise? Is this really what is at present the pie shop area adjacent to the away end of the main stand? If not where arew e talking about and if so where is the new pie shop going.

Ed Waiter - you are spot on and the servery will stay exactly as it is.

How can they convert the concourse into a bar and leave the servery where it is...? There isn't much space as it is. Are they going to cut the concourse in half? Or build an extension? Surely the bar isn't going to be a table opposite the servery with some optics hanging behind it!

Probably be too costly but could they not build up the way behind the south end of the main stand (behind the uncovered end) to make executive boxes looking out at the pitch?

If the club are going to do this why not do it right, sports bar downstairs and restaurant upstairs looking out to sea, and exec boxes facing the pitch.

All sounds very vague at the moment and seems like a lot of guesswork has been done on the limited information contained within the planning application. Hopefully the club release some more details soon

While we wait on more information how about a bit of fun.

If you were in charge of naming the new facility, what would you call it and why?

I'll start with "Shoes Off Saloon"....in recognition of that momentous act of fan unity.
