Gary Warren, Defender, captain at Newport County moving to Scotland. No team mentioned, but, its a position we need, probably the wage we'd pay, from a team we would expect to get players from. Just a thought!.

What folk are saying is that we should not get too excited about a player whose only full time football has been with a club that finished 19th in the conference and who, incidentally, has actually no

I for one can fully understand the common despair throughout this topic and several others. The reason being:- I was unlucky enough to miss only one home game last season. There were times where I was

Gary Warren has spurned offers from a number of English clubs to sign for Scottish Premier League club Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Newport County skipper, who also played for Mangotsfield United and Team Bath, was a key part of the Exiles' squad who reached the FA Carlsberg Trophy final at Wembley, where they lost to York City.

However, the lure of playing top-flight football under the management of legendary England centre half Terry Butcher at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium has taken him to the Highlands.

Newport director of football Tim Harris said that the move north of the border was too good for Warren to turn down.

"While we are disappointed for ourselves we are over the moon for Gary," Harris said.

“This is a huge move for him, to play in the top tier of Scottish football, and we feel proud of him after he's been such a colossal player for us over the years."

“The standard must be very poor in scotland if Gary can get a move there , even though its only Inverness . They'll be relegation favourites for sure .”

There's a lot more positive comments that suggest that particular posters view on Warren is in the minority.

I believe Gary will be a huge player for you next season. He's 100% committed when he's on the pitch and won't shirk a tackle.

from what i hear about this lad, the idea of him and hogg together next season has got me a little exited.

Gary the Great will be fabulous once he gets his feet under the table .

Once he realises that footie is footie and he can cut it at the level we are in at the moment (not just Caley thistle but all teams in the SPL) he will have a rush of blood to the head , will start to brim with confidence, will not score many goals but will do a real good turn in the part in front of goal and will succcccceeeeddd masterfully.

Then he will get complacent , will concede a few , will get a right good bo-likking frae Terry theTerror , will smarten up and will do a good turn.........

and will be here for years, growing in reputation umntil his 16th year at the helm when Terry the Terror will............................go on--complete the sentence.

If he gets 16 years he'll be 44 Scarlet

I think the balance of evidence says it is going to happen but until confirmed it is still rumour. I notice he's only been a pro for a year. At 28 its a bit surprising that nobody seen any promise in him before now.

Seems to be a lot of confusion over his age. The South Wales Argus article linked by Murchison says he is 25 yet i have seen his age being mentioned as 27 or 28. Anyone know how old he is?

Soccerbase has him as Scottish born 16th Aug 1984

Newport C web has same birthdate but born in Bristol.

Gary was part time until last season because he was training to be a school teacher. However, Newport County decided to go full time last season and Gary became full time with us. He also captained the Great Britain's Student Team that competed in the Student Games in Japan last year.

Can see the Mantis and one or two others wetting their pants over that information.
