Dunc's Homecoming

It's Duncan Ferguson's first home game on Saturday against a team expected to be challenging at the top end of the table come the end of the season. Partick Thistle will be a stern test for Dunc's revitalised troops who have been re-energised by the new Gaffer's unexpected arrival at the Caledonian Stadium. He got off to a flier last weekend but the adrenaline started to wear off before the end of the game and Arbroath staged a comeback from 3-0 down before we held out for a 3-2 win on the road, our first success in this years Championship. It's a big ask to expect miracles against well established Championship challengers, but that's the task on Saturday.

Last Time Out

Inverness earned their first three points of the season last week against Arbroath in a five goal nailbiter. Dunc's reign got off to a great start with an early goal from Luis Longstaff. It was added to before the break when Longstaff turned provider for Aaron Doran to thump home his low driven cross after half an hour. Billy Mckay lobbed keeper Gaston just after the break from a Mark Ridgers kick out. Route one is alive and kicking. Arbroath got a lifeline with a freak goal when a clearance rebounded off Ross Stewart and deftly chipped over the flailing keepers hands and into the net from eighteen yards. Meh! Michael McKenna reduced the leeway to one when he arrowed home aftrer a bit of pinball on the edge of the box. We dug deep though and withstood a late barrage to secure the win for a jubilant away support and an equally enthusiastic new manager.

Partick Thistle recovered from a 3-0 defeat to Arbroath the previous week to thump Dunfermline 3-0. Scott Robinson scored in the first half before our old friend Brian Graham scored five minutes after the break. Kerr McInroy added a third. This game had a raft of opportunities for both sides but it was the Firhill side that had the cutting edge in front of goal.

  • What a breath of fresh air listening to Ferguson's pre-match, especially how much he values and appreciates the fans. If only our CEO and Chairman shared that view!

A far better team performance, we just need to find that killer pass in the final third. I thought we had the bulk of the second half without troubling their keeper too much. If we had 10 Billy Mckays

Similar game to united couple o weeks ago I felt. At no point did we look like scoring. It's a worry that we're so toothless up front. Other than that happy enough with a point.

We definitely played much better today The players looked altogether happier and looked like they were playing for each other. Great to see big Dunc acknowledging the fans after the game. Feck knows how he stood all game with a jumper and shirt on in that weather Hard as Nails. In  Dunc we believe

Yeah, point was ok, But jeez do we not look like scoring a goal at home! totally crap home record.

Anyway onwards and upwards.... hopefully

One special mention. Nathan Shaw put in a tackle in the second half not long before he went off. Outstanding and then set up a great move. Never gave in

Yes, it was brilliant, I'm waiting for his first ever header now...

In fairness, his general ball playing is decent, his tackling back...., his getting off the deck to head a ball is non existent, on a par with Jordan White, something his manager will hopefully address.

Was he injured? Anyone know why he was taken off? Seemed a bizarre substitution!

Hold on a minute, but God forbid, here's another view:

Inverness were held to a draw???

Why are we always subject to these central belt weegie headlines. It completely misconstrues the situation.

Meh!

No sign of an injury. Mckay had taken a knock so I assumed the double switch was to put Lodovica and Brooks up top and allow Samuels to play wide right.

Shaw was quieter than in some games so it wasn’t a great surprise.

Yes, noticed that on the BBC match report.

Thought it was a thoroughly entertaining match and apart from the first 10 minutes or so, we pretty much controlled the game.

Now if only we could score . . .

What is z cars

Had to go through a 9 hour flight with no idea of the result until we landed. Mixed feelings, like most of us. Stating the obvious but great to keep a clean sheet, not so great to not score or create much up front.

The classic way to turn round a failing team is t9 sort the defence first so maybe that is encouraging.

Get the terrible conditions didn't help, but thought we were a lot of 'huff and puff' yesterday and lacked creativity . All just a wee bit flat, Patrick not much better though

On the plus side the central defence looks pretty solid and willing to carry the ball out ,as opposed to the usual long punt.

Early days I suppose ,but the table does look alarming as we head into winter. Cannot afford a repeat of the last 2 winters

A clean sheet against the league's top scorers.

Even without all our struggles of late, that would have been a positive and a draw more than acceptable.

I really couldn't see what all the fuss was about, with some saying Partick were  one of the favourites for the league. I thought they weren't as strong or as lethal in attack as they were last season. They certainly weren't the best team I have seen this season, in fact I thought they were quite average. So, hopefully as our confidence grows, and maybe if DF can find a quality player or two to complete the building process, we can start to pull ourselves nearer and nearer to the pack.
