  1. The Guy has been charged with breach of the peace and assault, both aggravated by religious prejudice. See hear That's fairly meaningless at this stage. He'll have been hit with the heaviest possible charge as a matter of course so as to ensure they can get him for as much as possible. Easier for the Procurator Fiscal to do that and then back off on the charges than it is for them to have charged him with a lesser offence and then try to increase the charges. So, to summarize. The guy in the Hearts top standing in the Hearts end at a Hearts home game running on to the Hearts pitch to attack the manager of the team playing Hearts may not be a Hearts fan. And the people sending live bombs and bullets to a group of people (not just Mr Lennon), each one with Catholic/Celtic/Irish connections, may not be religious bigots. Keep it up, Poirot.

  2. Dinnae think you need to be Poirot or Sherlock to deduce the guy in the picture is a nutter, intent on causing trouble, noising up the support and is a generally dislikable character,he should be banned from all football grounds forthwith The Hearts fan should get in trouble as well!!

  3. Not sure but most clubs would have recognised the service and granted a testimonial a long time ago , poor show by ICT IMHO .

  4. Ian Broadfoot, who has acted as club statistician and historian more or less since ICT was founded, has announced that he is standing down. Ian moved from Inverness to Perth a few years ago which made this demanding job no easier. Those on his mailing list - and I believe that also includes some of the Mods on CTOL - will be more than aware of the incredible detail and scrupulous accuracy of the statistics he has issued after every game. One of his specialities was the identification of "milestone" appearances etc. For instance, without his input, Terry and Maurice's 100th earlier this season would have gone completely unnoticed but this actually made a big media splash both locally and nationally. Ian has done a great service to Caley Thistle and on a personal level I relied considerably on his match reports from the first two seasons whilst writing Against All Odds, which he also proof read for me. I was able to return the favour for the manuscript of Going Ballistic when Ian recorded the first decade a few years later. Make no mistake, Ian's contributions will be greatly missed and he will be a very hard act to to follow. His knowledge was encyclopaedic, whatever your statistical query. On that subject, my last query to him was just last night when I wanted to find out about winning home runs in the SPL. (And by the way Ian's final response to me was that the longest run of straight home SPL wins was FIVE between 24.11.07. and 5.1.08. which would have been during Craig Brewster's second spell in charge.) Caley Thistle owes Ian a great debt.

  5. Heres the problem Glasgows Catholic & Protestant schools! Yes there are rivalrys between schools accross the country and we all leave that rivalry when we grow up, mature and leave. But these schools are a bigotary conveyor belts. This is where sectarianism and OF fans are born and unfortunately some kids take it with them when they leave. So Mr Salmond! Get your Education Ministers off their a*rses and sort it at grass roots not once their in the terraces

  6. Peter Lawwell is correct. This is Scotlands shame. Not the fact that Lennon or others are being targetted but the fact that, in this day and age when many around the world are striving for peace among all men, we, the majority, in Scotland still tend to turn a blind eye to the minority who practice religious intolerance around us. It is Scotlands shame and it is our shame.

  7. Well there's a thoroughly decent fellow who gives Scottish football a good name! And I have to say there were a good few more Hibees of the same ilk on the bus which decanted itself into the Social Club (and overwhelmed the catering staff!!) before the match. It really is such a refreshing thing, especially at the end of the kind of season Scottish football has just had, to see fans from visiting teams mixing in with the home supporters in such a civilised way.

  8. Sorry but Lawwell has cheek "This is Scotland's shame and it is high time Scotland addressed it." erm correct me if i am wrong but are your club not a huge part of the secretaerian problem ? ~Start looking closer to home Mr Lawwell Fact of the matter is Lennon is a Ned, if you go around winding people up then there will always be some nutter who will decide that they aint having it. I in no way condone anything that has happened to Lennon but cant help think he has not helped himself with his cheating, moaning and complaining about other clubs, refs, the SFA etc etc etc

  9. Yep, definitely looked like Adam actually put it over the line. It was certainly credited initially to Rooney but then most opinion seemed to switch to Foran. The pictures seem to be inconclusive. The post match banter was rather good and I had to have a laugh at the interview Jim Spence did with Adam which was only used for quotes for online copy and never appeared online or on air as an interview apart from the clip I couldn't resist using for local broadcast. Here was Rooney waxing lyrical about the club's youngsters like Nick Ross and Liam Polworth with this loud interjection in the background proclaiming "It wuz ovurr de loine... Richie Foran says it wuz ovurr de loine!!!" Much funnier when heard for real!

  10. Understand the point you make CMIB but would suggest there is a fundamental difference between dislike and hatred. The cases you raise would lead many, myself included, to dislike Neil Lennon's behaviour but can, in no way, be deemed legitimate reasons for hatred of the man. Any person of reasonable mind would believe the same.

  11. I quite like the Local Hero tune. It works for me. I guess over the years we have come to the conclusion that it will be impossible to find something that pleases everybody.

  12. I would be amazed if we didnt give him a testimonial. Grant has been at the club for around 14 years and his loyalty, dedication and unfaltering effort should be rewarded appropriately with a testimonial. Really hope something is being organised and if it isnt then questions need to be asked. Both him and Russell should get a testimonial as Grant has 14yrs and Russell 10yrs it would be a great way to say thanks to them both for their service and dedication to the club

  13. So many view on here all regarding sectarinism, now unless I have missed it in the news (which I may have) who actually said Lennon was attacked for his religious beliefs, perhaps thats people on here jumping to assumptions. Nothing to do with the fact he accused Hearts as a club & players of not playing and trying against Rangers and actively assisting the Ibrox club win the SPL? Surely that inflamatory remark cant be acceptable when he is questioning the intergrity of fellow professionals? This is not the first comment of such nature that he has made this season - perhaps if people look beyond NL as the victim and the religious bigitory which he has endured, there is an under lying case of him behaving in an inappropriate manner that the SFA are failing to deal with. I dont recall in any post I have made suggesting he brough on or deserved the violence or abuse brought on by the narrow minded majority focusing on his religon, but in terms of his other behaviour towards other professionals in football and his total contempt for authority in the game certainly isnt doing anything to make him a popular character throughout all football fans (not just those looking for an excuse to vent religious bigitory), so perhaps the SFA are to blame for being weak at acting on these comments? While he shouldnt be subject to this abuse in his job and in no way can it be acceptable to be 'driven' out of his job for these reasons - what about the behaviour he has displayed throughout the season do people feel its acceptable? I dont - every other manager in the SPL has conducted themseves in a much more dignified and professional manner - so why cant he? Its a shame that we now live in an overly PC time you cannt dislike someone for the sake of them being an unpleasent person without people looking for undertones of a bigoted nature, to either say you are racist, sexist or sectarian...........

  14. Well I have renewed mine so hopefully am one of the first to do so. I guess I am currently lucky in being able to afford this but now we are back in the SPL it is a privilege to watch football at this level. I miss games so I wonder whether there is demand say for a 13 ticket season ticket? I am not advocating that for myself but possibly for those living away or restricted by work. In the main stand it could be priced at say ?240 and could be used as and when required except when the old firm played when pre-booking could be required. This prices games at ?18.46 each which is good value for money. The club clearly needs as many season ticket holders as possible and therefore perhaps 50 of these could be made available in both stands possibly for different groups.

  15. WOW! Deep breath in, and exhale......... Are we not supposed to be talking about the attack on Neil Lennon at Tynecastle? McGinn, McCourt, Scotland's shame, Bullets and bombs in the post? Different topics guys. So, back on topic, and just incase folk are mixing their incidents up, one Hearts fan, runs onto the pitch and attacks the pantomime villan with crappy punch. I think that has more to do with Scotland's shame mk 2, alcohol, added with grown men refusing to behave in public as they know they should. Also, someone asked is it right to be puched in the face if you say something disagreeable? Well, I wouldn't feel right throwing one, but sometimes I do curtail what i'm saying depending on the size, and proximity of the person i'm talking about, because I understand that somethings should be kept to yourself, unless you are deliberately setting out to wind folk up. I don't hate Romanian's but..............

  16. Do we even know that this guy was a Hearts fan, or what motive he's given for the attack? It seems to have just been assumed that he was a Hearts fan and he attacked Lennon because he was Catholic and any other reason is nonsense because their can be not other reason for disliking him and everyone who dislikes him is sectarian or bigoted!!!

  17. His club is also Scottish so is part of the problem. The sooner all clubs, not just the publicised ones get together to sort out this mess the better for all parties.

  18. I have never quite got this agruement that is continually promoted by a press that will not allow itself to differentiate. Whilst agreeing that there hugely unacceptable Republican elements within the Celtic support that sing totally unacceptable songs about causing destruction and inflecting misery on people who oppose their view point, I cannot see how you can take the Neil Lennon abuse agenda and turn it round to be, in some way, the responsibility of his club? This is surely just another attempt to hide the real cause and give justification to the abusers. I don't condone but........... I'm not a racist but......... I'm not homophobic but........ Please focus on what is happening here. A football manager is being terrorised, abused and attacked in, alledgedly, a 21st century democracy and some people are spending more time looking for reasons to justify, explain or seek reason on behalf of his pursuers. It is shameful

  19. That'll be number 18, Akpo Sodje (definitely not 16 - Lewis [stevenson] has far too much class.) Sodje was in our line-up the last time both sides met at Easter Road. Can't recall if there was anything in that game that might have sparked something between the two, but that's the only previous time they'd have come up against one another. That's a fair understatement there! You're absolutely correct though, and while we do desperately need that shake up, I still have serious doubts as to whether we have the correct manager in place to implement it as required. I thank heavens for that purple patch over February/March, as otherwise, I'm in no doubt we'd currently be bound for the first division. It has been a truly horrific season. You were very deserved winners, yet again, last night. Mr Butcher is surely in with a very good shout for another 'manager of the month' award now. In a season where my team have left me seriously questioning why I put myself through it every week, your team have been a welcome breath of fresh air to watch (last year likewise) whenever I've made the trip up (not just for Hibs games either!), on the two occasions at Easter Road, and in the televised games I've seen. With any luck I'll manage to take in a couple of your pre-season games when we have nothing going on. I also can't for the life of me understand why Grant Munro is being released. Even if there are financial motives for doing so. He's looked the typical committed, solid yet unspectacular model pro of the ilk that so often prove vital assets to their teams every time I've watched him (has he had a testimonial in his time?) Surely even a one-year extension wouldn't have done any harm? You've got a few talented players on your books at the minute, but what has always come across extremely well to me is their attitudes and worth ethic as a unit. Our pathetic, workshy lot could really do with taking heed of that example. I hope you manage to finish off your season on a high at Hamilton on Saturday and good luck in advance for 2011-2012. All the best as ever.

  20. Can't believe that as a student I am expected to pay 20 quid for a nothing end of season game against two teams with literally nothing to play for. Looks like I won't be going to this on after all. Surely it woud have made all kinds of sense to reduce the ticket prices for this game. Hamilton struggle to get people to come and see them at the best of times and in a match where they have already been relegated and are playing (lets be honest) a team that their fans will have no real interest in seeing they could have had more chance of filling at least 1000 seats with reduced prices..

  21. Some of the posts on here are incredible! To suggest that Neil Lennon is, in any way, responsible for what he is now being constantly subjected to is, in my view, supporting the behaviour of his aggressors. Football has been full of guys like Lennon. Annoying, agressive, angry individuals who, when they wear the colours of the team you support, are idolised and hated by opposition in equal measure. Many have portrayed the same traits as Lennon but can anyone name any individual in our game (and it is a game) who has been subjected to the kind of abuse that Lennon has? To play down last night's incident is nonsensical. You have an individual, already the subject of numerous death threats, gifts through the post and round the clock guard, doing his job at a place of work. From nowhere he is attacked by a yob who could have been in possession of any weapon and caused untold damage. The fact he didn't is down more to luck than planning. Thankfully it appears he was an idiot intent on making a name for himself rather than a more twisted bigot intent on serious injury. Is this cause for celebration or humour? Another factor which totally destroys the arguement that some have promoted on this site i.e. this is not sectarian just good old fashioned hatred, is the location where the attack took place. Tynecastle and Heart of Midlothian have long been recognised as the bastion of east coast unionism. They fly the same flags and sing the same songs as their west coast counterparts, often in a more vicious manner than portrayed at Ibrox. It is clear to me (and any reasonable individual) that this incident would not have taken place at Pittodrie, Tannadice or TCS for example. Why? Because none of these grounds are full of sectarian bigots full of hatred. The ramifications of this further incident are huge for both football and society. As police raid houses in Ayrshire this morning in pursuit of the parcel bombers, our newspapers are full of stories about a football manger being attacked at a game in Edinburgh. Don't let anyone kid you that this is a problem confined to Glasgow. I am 100% behind any government or organisation that is willing to tackle this cancer that runs through our country. I suggest that if more people shared that few and spent less time justifying, understanding or being amused by such behaviour we might have a chance of success. Without it we're doomed. The biggest target of hate, at the moment, happens to be an Irish catholic who manages Celtic. In the past it has been the Muslim shopkeeper running his business or the British soldier sent by his government to do a job. My view would remain the same no matter who the victim. There can be no justification and no support. As my Celtic supporting cousin said last night: Today, We Are All Neil Lennon.

  22. Yes I agree NL is a serious pain in the a*se. But, its the people who send the bullets, send the parcel bombs, attack him on the pitch that need to be taken out of Scottish society. I am fairly certain he wouldn't entice anyone to send parcel bombs/bullets to himself or his family. The referee dispute all came about from an official lying, If it was ICT it happened too, I would expect Terry to create a stink about it. As for inciting this behaviour? Surely anyone with a wee bit of sense can see, the people he allegedly incites, are the petty bigots(from more than just the OF) who spend their time looking for things to be offended by. Something that is becoming increasingly widespread in football as well as society. Lennon is no angel, but the people who are aiming the abuse, threats, and forcing him out of the game, are they not also a common denominator

  24. Just to update you ........................ my wife won! (I put an entry in for her). We had a fantastic weekend in Parma with the winners of the seperate Orion competition. The hospitality was superb and we were very well treated, wined and dined by our hosts from Erea and Orion. To cap it all - hospitality at the Parma Inter match - both sides needing three points, Inter to sustain their League challenge and Parma for survival. A full house, a tremendous atmosphere and a cracking game of football - 2-0 to Parma. (Didn't mind missing the Caley Hearts match for it at all). We also got to see the new away strip (I believe publicity about the trip may be left until the strip is released) at the Erea factory. I'm afraid I can't say what it's like - but I can tell you I think it's our best one yet. There's some talk of repeating it next year - and if they do, it is definitely worth an entry. Full marks to Caley Thistle, Erea, Orion and Flybe.

  25. Nonsense, it's learned in the home, the playground, in school, at work, everywhere. It's all around us FFS. How many OF fans do you know who don't have strong opinions about what's going on? I know plenty. Are they in agreement? No! It's all about what you're conditioned to and not just in a Glasgow school. It's Scottish Society in general that has the problem. 28. That's a very interesting comment, similar to Nick Griffin's quote - "We can't talk about immigration without being accused of being racist." Not sure about you but I know that when he says that, that is exactly what he is being and will continue to be. As for liking or disliking of people, I was always brought up to believe that you actually had to meet someone and engage in dialogue before you were in a position to form a like or dislike (love or hatred) of them. Thankfully, this has held me in good stead as I go forward in life. My children are now brought up the same way which can only be good for us a society. People often develop hatred of certain evil figures that have has an impact on their lives. This can be legitimate as even though they haven't met. For example, people hate Ian Brady, Myra Hindley, Ian Huntley etc. without ever having come into contact with them in most cases. All are child abductors, abusers and murders. What is it that Neil Lennon has done that makes him warrant the same status in your eyes? What heinous crime has he committed to match the above? Or would you care to share with us, the meetings and difficulties you have had with Neil Lennon, the person not the pantomime devil, that gives legitimacy to your view?

  29. In no way can this be condoned as its bringing the whole of Scottish football into disrepute and I hope the perpetrator is treated how he deserves by the courts. However is it time for the sake of the Scottish game that Lennon leaves Celtic & Scottish football? So far this season we have had - referee accusations and strikes, parcel bombs, bullets in the post, outrageous scenes at the OF games and now fan attacks and in all cases a common denominator is Lennon. Not saying he deserves any of the personal attacks or situations, but you have to wonder does he encite and entice this behaviour? All this is blackening the Scottish football name worldwide - is it time he left for good?

  30. id never encourage people to abuse someone else in any way. but neil lennon has managed to single handedly bring the reputation of scottish football down the pan im not saying people didnt have a dim view of scotish football before lennon came in but he has done us no favours. we need more terry butchers and less neil lennons in my view.
