  1. One of the thousands of reasons I never go on there any more.

  2. Yes, athletes have represented Great Britain through UK athletics etc - not through the English athletics organisation? My point is why is it not run and selected by a British commitee or group - why are the English FA contacting the players (that is what was written in the press) - or because its in London that automatically gives England proirity and the right to run it? In which case that could allow FIFA to argue that nations no longer need an SFA/FAW etc as the EFA can organise it all for us.

  3. Scottish athletes have always represented Great Britain at the Olympics so why should footballers be any different. Football isn't even a new Olympic sport, it's been going for years and promotes some of the best youth players around the world. The tournament might not be as popular as the world cup but it's still entertaining to watch. There probably wouldn't have been a British team if it wasn't held in London but I think it makes for a far more interesting tournament with them in it.

  5. Being an Olympic champion has a great ring to it. The point of being an Olympic champion is to demonstrate that you are the best in the world at your sport. There are millions of dedicated athletes in a wide range of sports - some popular and some less so - who train hard for years in the hope that one day they can mount that podium, have a medal put round their neck and have their national anthem played whilst they stand there proudly as Olympic Champion. The Olympics come round every 4 years and these athletes target their training to be able to deliver their best performance for the games. Everyone else is doing the same so if you win Olympic Gold you truly can say at that time, when it matters, you are the best in the world. But football! The World Cup is the Olympics of football and is the competition people aspire to win more than any other. The Olympic title proves nothing and is an irrelevance as far as football is concerned. Worse, awarding gold medals to those who have little hope of ever winning the World Cup devalues the honour of winning gold in other sports. A further problem is that football is such a popular sport that even with the top teams and top players not on show there is considerable media coverage. This means there is less coverage of other sports and that is a real shame. Many of these sports get little coverage at other times and to see them played at the highest level makes a nice change. I won't be watching the Olympic football and don't give a t*ss who is in team GB.

  6. The only way to develop youth is to play them. The only way clubs will play them is if they are forced to. The only way they will be forced to is by removing the incentive to keep big squads. Children are our future teach them well and let them lead the way!

  8. Couldn't they have paid to use another ground somewhere in between? Say Dingwall? I understand the owners there are trying to raise a few pennies.

  9. That was a late cancellation - I am turning back now at Aviemore - I sincerely hope that nobody else has travelled long distances only to be disappointed !!

  10. Penalty was the right decision. Also the right decision not to give either penalty shout Celtic had late on, both laughable shouts. Neil Lennon's actions at the final whistle were a disgrace, he has no right to behave like that towards officials. I'm assuming that he won't be retracting anything he's said now that TV evidence has shown him to be incorrect. Alan Thompson was also a disgrace, coming out with the head-shakingly stupid quote "If theirs is a penalty then so is ours". I believe that this is what is called in science an "appeal to fairness" and is absolute pish. Hearts get a penalty because Wanyama (and Ledley for that matter) handled the ball. Celtic didn't get a penalty because Webster didn't handle the ball. If Hearts had ten penalties and Celtic had none that doesn't make the decisions unfair. Hopefully Lennon gets a twenty match touchline ban, in a Derek Adams stylee.

  11. You are right Charles. But a word of warning. If I ever turn on the radio and hear you use the word "fairytale" (like your BBC colleagues felt obliged to do every single time they talked about Gretna) I will get in my car, find you at whatever ground you are at, and stick your microphone into that unpleasant stinking place where where the sun don't shine. And I don't mean Dingwall.

  12. Well done on finally making it to the SPL. Their so called Uncle Roy threw so much money at the club over the years, they should really have been there a whole lot sooner. They always outspent Caley Thistle when we were in the lower leagues, but better late than never. And it will be great for the Highlands.

  13. This story could only be better if it turns out there was actually no contact and the player was just faking....
