  6. “We’ve not beaten them all season and there would be no finer time to do that than on the last weekend of the season.” Err, would one of the cup games not have been a finer time, or perhaps the crunch league game when County still had a lot to play for and could have overtaken us?

  7. Aye, but Mantis anticipated that and deliberately gave out a wrong name for the Sky reporter! Mind you, Dougal is probably already heading for the phone box on Telford Street to look out his blue Santa suit and Bah Humbug hat. Oh yes, and the old footage of Cup Finals at Hampden in the 1930s with crowds of 130,000 who he will say are Caley fans meeting to protest against the Merger.

  8. I for one when i was a young Caledonian FC supporter had 3 wishes before i died. 1. Join the Scottish League 2. Make it to the SPL or Premier League in those days. 3. Play in Europe. Happy to have lived to see the first 2 of those and unless I die before Sunday, I will hopefully see the last one fulfilled. 20 years ago i gave a "F**k about the 'M' thing but Sundays game/result is bigger that all that BS! So Dougal; while you sit and kneel before your poster of Telford Street every morning; for once dude get with the rest of us and "Believe" And for the record I thought Banner's book was a jolly good read!

  9. Not accepting the disrespectful tag either. What numptie was in charge of this lap of honour or whatever anyway? Wouldn't take a genius to work out that at the end of the game if we won, lost or drew, get over to the fans right away and take some extended applause as it was last game and get off. That's what should have been announced and then the players would have had a decent 'final home game moment'. I agree about folk heading out before the final whistle (some may well have been going for tickets) but going up the tunnel and leaving folk hanging about unsure of things was crass. Fans would as usual be heading for exits, taking in the win or defeat and what it might mean and thinking about getting home through the traffic, rain, busses were waiting etc.

  10. The marchers reached skye today and have passed the half way point, having totalled 79 miles so far with 73 to go. Gringo, mrs gringo and sotonict all took a trip out to meet the troops as they arrived at 'aaron doran's castle. Weather has been atrocious but thats not detering us. Very short day of just 12 miles is planned for tomorrow...

  11. Matthew 8:26 And his supporters came to him, and awoke him, saying, Butcher, save us: we perish. And he said to them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm over the beach of Dingwall. But the supporters marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! Later that day a great shadowy seethe decended over the Isle of Black and a great euphoria lit up the Moray Firth skyline south of this dark land.

  12. That puts a smile on my face for the rest of the morning .... think Adams should do one of those daily diary things where you tear off the next page and get a quote of the day...... sell it at Christmas and call it "Seethings Greetings" with both words also being individually appropriate !!! "...We are one of the best teams in the SPL this season" "We are Ross County football club, we are a wee team from the north..."

  13. On 19th May 1940 Winston Churchill gave his famous World War 2 speech including - "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat" He also said "We would fight them on the beaches" quite apt really.

  15. Well I reckon 16 and a half hours (excluding replays and extra time - when that eventually superseded multiple replays) through 11 rounds from the Q Cup 1st to the Scottish Cup Final and then whatever it took to get to the Cupwinners' Cup final. I don't know how long that was, but any Aberdeen fan would tell you in a flash! As for the £millions... probably about £56 for getting through the Q Cup part of it. On which subject, here's another reflection of how football in the Highlands has progressed since ICT came along. Remember the absolute joy at clubs simply getting to the Qualifying Cup "group stages" (aka the last four which meant you were in the "real" Scottish Cup)? A subsequent visit from Clyde or trip to Stenhousemuir would then be the highlight of the season. That was the situation as recently as season 1993-94 - when neither Inverness team did so since Jags put Caley out at the first hurdle before losing out themselves in the quarter finals to - I think... oops.... Ross County! So in 1993...you have to beat Ross County to get into the Scottish Cup. In 2013....you have to beat Ross County to get into Europe. You still with us Dougal?

  17. Back on topic I was talking about this subject with some folk on saturday. I think when the merger was taking place it was hoped that the club would go on to bigger heights over the years but imo this season has been something else. To be one of the top teams in Scotland consistantly for months was I think beyond our wildest dreams 20 years ago. I personally am very proud of where we have got too and rather than merger topics decending as usual into a slanging match can we not, for a change, celebrate the present and also celebrate our history (from both clubs)! My childhood memories are of HL (which was great btw) but my boys memories will consist of SPL matches and maybe just maybe a European dream realised.

  18. Look folks, maybe it's not a great idea to allow celebration of ICT's meteoric success and the 20th anniversary of the conception of that club to be sidetracked by the likes of Doogie. The first four posts were absolutely great, but since then, Inverness's answer to the Flat Earth Society has unfortunately become able to sidetrack this thread. Don't rise to it!

  19. I read this as an article celebrating 20 years since inception. 20 years since a few people had the foresight to realise that an Inverness team could do what many other teams have failed to do even though they've been established for a hell of a lot longer. What I cant see is any reason why anyone would need to apologise for success. Precisely right Alex. There had been previous half baked suggestions about mergers for decades, but - apart from the 1973 vote when Thistle unsuccessfully went it alone - there was never an opportunity to put one into practice. May 1993 provided just that opportunity. I was going to say it's a pity that there are just a few people like Doogie who remain in denial and cannot acknowledge the reality that what happened between 1993 and 1996 has been a roaring and still developing success, which of course makes it stick in the throat of those who did their utmost to prevent it from happening and keep Inverness football in the dark ages. I am also now wondering if Dougal is really a staunch pro-mergerite having a long term laugh by posing as some kind of caricature Caley rebel and posting the stuff he does. I'm not really convinced that anyone could sustain the posting of such demonstrable rubbish and actually mean it. Oh the irony Bannerman, you accuse me of posting rubbish yet you wrote a book full of complete and utter rubbish If it's such a roaring success then why are we the worst supported club in the SPL? Maybe you can explain to me why County have always had a higher average attendance than us when we've both being in the same division? Can you also explain why there are so many Invernessians that have turned their back on the local side to travel 14 miles north for their football? This season has been the most successful in the clubs history yet the attendances are getting worse, id hate to think what we would be getting through the turnstiles if we were in the bottom six at the moment The merger has happened and I agree there is no turning back but I will never sit back and accept things that were done wrongly and pretend things are all rosey in the garden while reading drivel posted by numpties like yourself Dougal

  25. Well.....I used to go to Caley training on Monday and thursday nights and chase the ball for them. My reward was getting to sit with the players and have half an orange during the break in training. I also used to sometimes help claen the Caley park on a sunday morning. Mostly i did this in the hope of finding a matchday Program lying on the ground somewhere, for my collection. And at times, id run out and retrieve the balls from gardens on telford street, during matches. All of these positions were unpaid and done out of love lol
