  1. Given that United have raked in over four million pounds in transfer fees lately and are boasting about being debt free, it might have been prudent of them to have spent some money on what has never been a great playing surface..
  2. Match report now published, complete with video footage............. http://caleythistleonline.com/page/index.html/_/reports-2014-15/dundee-utd-v-inverness-ct-spfl-r1230
  3. Presumably some sanctions will be taken against Utd if the pitch was still frozen. It may be winter with a bit of snow on the ground but it is just typical winter weather with temperatures only a little below freezing at worst. These are not exceptional conditions and there are games going on around the country on pitches with no undersoil heating. If Utd have had the heating on for as long as they say, you would have thought someone might have checked that it was actually working. I think a 10 point deduction would be in order.
  4. Angry and annoyed? - absolutely! Although....Arabs' abandonment allows another alcohol assisted afternoon ahead - accompanying aural, airwave, audio action! Aberdeen, Alloa and Ayr all apparently active, although another announcement awaits.... Any alcohol available? Aye Ale, amarettos and absynth!
  5. Game off Oh dear. Once again the old problem of calling games off too late reared it's ugly head. United allegedly had the heaters on since Thursday morning but amazingly there were still pockets of ice around the threadbare goal areas. Many Inverness fans had already left, some as far as Perth before the decision to call the game off was officially announced after a second pitch inspection. Some buses made it to Bruar, little consolation if you ask me. This has been posted on the official United site stating the reasons and a reduced offer for tickets when the game is eventually played. January 17, 2015 A Club spokesperson said: “Naturally we’re very disappointed the game can’t go ahead due to the sub zero temperatures we have experienced overnight. Despite taking every precaution and our undersoil heating being on since first thing on Thursday morning, there are patches of the pitch that are a safety hazard for the players particularly in and around the goalmouth areas. We don’t want to take any chances with player safety and as such, while we wanted to give the game as much chance to happen as possible, we also wanted to give fans adequate notice to save unnecessary travel. “We have also decided that, as a good will gesture in appreciation of the effort being made by supporters at this time of year, we will let supporters of Inverness and Dundee United attend the rescheduled fixture for £5.” However, some choice quotes have been doing the rounds:- £15 to go to Bruar and back...money well spent, said AJS on twitter, however, it got better for him......To Bruar and back for a pish and a Subway. Rare away day experience....... Pointless journey. F*%*!n shambles. Hoping Tuesdays on now. Bev tweeted.........not a happy supporters bus heading north. What a shambles......we didn't even get a toilet stop......... Paul was not too happy..........Doesn't take a genius to know that #ICTFC against #DUFC isn't a local derby. Either make a decision early or don't. It's not rocket science. Gringo was grumpy as well.......Nice one SPFL. Let the ICT fans and team travel down the icy A9 for a couple of hours and then.....and only then....call the game off. You really are a fecking joke. Anon.........absolutely disgraceful that a basic need cannot be fulfilled I can understand IF the heating failed. It that doesn't seem to be the case, who is doing the ground staffing for United, Stevie Wonder? And the final complaint was .....The SPFL were willing to risk fans travelling on the notorious A9 in these conditions. Tells you all you need to know about where we come. Anyway, fair play to United for reducing the prices for the next one, but could it have been averted in the first instance, and, if in doubt, could it have been called off sooner.

Entirely sensible points he has made in the P&J. 6 week month in terms of pay day, and arctic weather? He's spot on about January. Summer football is 100% the way forward.
  7. According to Dundee United, the under soil heating has been on since Thursday morning. As way of appeasement, they've announced that the re-arranged game will be a straight £5 admission for all - but again, that's of little consolation at the moment! At least they are trying to make amends.....Fair play to them!

  9. Thanks to news breaking posters, saved me Boarding train to Dundee by 5 mins, unfotunately not the fare however. Will go and drink my gate fee now, thanks again!
  10. I'd give you an A, IHE, for that last post you made , but you never give me a " like" so eat yer heart out, buddy. Methinks you Are An Attention - getter but not An Attention giver, "Aye."

The English copied the premier league idea from us.
  12. I agree with what you see re Billy but the fact is that Mckay has a good potential to go down south and make himself a regular at international level plus get a better pay packet. The whole European place isn't really going to be much of an incentive as we will probably get one or two matches and then get knocked out before the real competition begins like every other Scottish club. I hope he would stay who wouldn't want to keep him but I think we have been lucky to keep a player who has been fantastic for this long and if it is this summer when he goes then I for one will wish him luck.

The problem with football is that we now have the culture where those inside are worried to make negative comments because of direct and indirect consequences from the authorities. When the referee is on the pitch, their authority is and should be absolute, but that needs tempered with a means of making appeals (or even voluntarily rescinding) decisions such as yellow and / or red cards. Unfortunately it is not possible to change scores or to amend points as there is no way to tell, unless it was beyond doubt, how a game could have turned around and then possibly turned back again - look at our semi-final when 2 men and a goal down until almost the last second. Add to that, as I posted elsewhere, there needs to be an effective means of monitoring the performance of the refs to achieve high standards at the top level. Too often the principle of the on-pitch authority is needlessly extended to include almost every aspect of the sport. The structure of the sport and how it is applied should never be beyond criticism.
  14. I see you're in Thurso. Would you mind heading to the golf course to see if Mahonio's ok? Haven't heard from him in a while and I hope he hasn't been blown away!

There's actually a fair bit of difference between Killie's pitch and Hamiltons. The "grass" at Killie is slightly longer and if you were to close your eyes and walk across it then you'd swear you were walking on a natural grass surface. The artificial pitch at Killie is also rated for use by other sports (including rugby), which opens up another market to the stadium if we went that route. Personally, I think an artificial pitch could take ICTFC to another level on so many fronts.... Aside from not having the same hassles as exist at the moment with making sure the pitch is kept in order over the winter, you end up with a facility that could be used pretty much 24/7. This provides a new income stream, not just for use of the pitch, but opens up the potential to develop other facilities at the ground as the footfall increases. You also have the cost saving that comes from not needing a separate training facility or renting pitches for Youth games etc. Holding community kids training programmes etc at the stadium brings people in and increases the sense of ownership. As that develops then so does the sense of community.....it could actually prove to be the catalyst for bringing the city and football club closer and that could also help put a few more bums on seats for match days. Even with the best grass pitch in the world, you could never achieve the above. To me, installing a (good) artificial surface is a total no-brainer.
