As a real golden oldie (as announced by tannoy last Sat)(thanks ICT for 3 points on my birthday) I have loads of memories but my best memory ever has to be “The David Raven” v Celtic in Scottish Cup Semi Final. Nothing tops that for me, ICT such underdogs, Celtic going for another treble, teams level, AND then that goal. What euphoria! Made this old bird soooo happy!
  3. Yeah remember that as well, top of the league and never happy. 0-0 at home to Motherwell at 25 minutes and the complaints from the Main Stand are in full flow. Could have been to do with not knowing what do when teams sat back when playing us at home as we were back then set up very much as counter attacking team which could pull teams apart with pace. Our best performances more often occurred away from Inverness. For a year and a half before Butcher left we were playing the best most attractive football ever seen at the Caledonian Stadium, it was a joy to watch.
  4. Got to start taking all those chances, and stop the fancy stuff at the back

I am sorry to read in the Courier of the death, on Friday 20th, at the age of 82, of Dave Christie. "Former Highland League player, manager, and privileged to captain all three Inverness teams." There can't be many who have played for, let alone captained, all three. I didn't know he had been with Clach. I remember him playing for the Jags in the late 60s. He was Caley manager for a while in 1973-74, and the picture above, from that time, is from page 75 of Alex Main's "Caley All The Way" book. Dave is also in the Caley side in a picture (p50) from 1959, when a Celtic-Rangers Select travelled north for a match to inaugurate the Telford Street floodlights. Alex recorded that the Select was in the charge of now legendary Rangers manager Scot Symon. What he didn't say, or maybe didn't know, was that Dave's middle names were "Scot Symon". My late father noticed this when he was Secretary at Thistle and dealt with the players' registrations - his understanding was that Dave was Scot Symon's nephew. Dave was born well before Scot Symon's great managerial career, so I think this was simply a family name. I didn't really know him, but I do remember him as a good player, and as a good-natured, decent man. My condolences to Dave's family, and to his friends, of whom there will be many.
  6. One thing I noticed during the game yesterday was how the Partick captain rallied his teammates and drive them on following our equaliser. Not everyone believes that a captain needs to be screaming at everyone all the time, but I feel that we are lacking a natural leader on the pitch.
  7. At my age it’s no date - and no need to call me sister - more likely grandma! just wanted to chat about ICT but if you unavailable then I will just have my usual meet-up with IHE (hope he’s coming over the border).
  8. We were offered a fee for big White from St Mirren fcuk nos why we didn't cash in ! Be a long trip home from Ayr if we play like that again!
  9. Vincent has been poor every game bar last week (but he was never MOM )yesterday was back to his usual he plays the ball backwards never forward also I do wonder how long Robbo will keep starting Jordan yes he scored yesterday but look how many he misses . MOM yesterday young Roddy no doubt
  10. Agree with above. Should have been ahead at the end of the first half but the missed chances have come back to bite us. Actually said to the guy sitting next to me that White had his best game for ages at the end of the first half and he agreed but in the second half, he unfortunately reverted to the old Jordan White on many occasions. For his size, Jordon isn't nearly physical enough with defenders although in his defence, the amount of times he gets blatantly fouled by defenders, with nothing given, is unreal. All 3 Partick goals came from poor defending yesterday, first goal started when Vincent failed to tackle in midfield, the defence let the player run at them and it looked, albeit from a distance, that Ridgers could have done better as he was beaten at his near post. Second goal was coming all afternoon as we were frequently caught in possession trying to do silly things and the third goal, while well created and finished, we simply allowed the Partick player to run at us. The second goal was obviously crucial as it gave Partick confidence, especially Kenny Miller who then came alive and, in truth, we should have lost more goals. This against a poor Partick side is a real wake up call to us. Robbo needs to start getting a bit ruthless with certain players. Vincent was poor yesterday and cannot remember him making a tackle. This is where we lost the game in the second half as were overrun in midfield by Partick and don't think Robbo made the correct substitutions at the right time. I also think McGregor found it hard going at times, understandable of course as he needs more games at this level, but none of the other senior players seemed to be looking out for him and helping him on the park. While the referee did not influence the game, I thought he was poor. Missed many obvious fouls, for both sides, and seemed to think that if a player shouted when tackled or lay on the ground it had to be a foul regardless of whether the ball was cleanly won or not. How he took so long to book Fox for timewasting, when Fox was clearly taking the mickey out of the ref was really poor. Shake up in the attitudes of some players required for next week with a difficult trip to Ayr.

Very sad to hear this. Hugh is a real gentleman. Sending my best to him.
  12. Many will know that I'm not a fan of the SPL but hey, this was my team in the top league of Scottish football. Never thought I'd see the day that we'd be at the top of the PL. What a ride. From those heady heights comes the slump. We peaked with the SFA Cup win and never capitalised as we couldn't hold on to that great team. That was a real shame and it was (is) all down to money. As mentioned above the people never came to the stadium in their droves to support what was an exciting team. If they couldn't do it then they certainly won't do it now. The potential for a large home crowd is there but it's trying to rid the city of this apathy that is the biggest problem.

Hugh is now 89 and up until about 6 months ago was still going to home games and the gym at Inverness Leisure. Sadly he is terminally ill with cancer but despite his failing health he still likes to have a chat about football, including how the team are doing now.
  14. Was it only 6 years ago? Seems like forever and somehow at the moment it seems like there's less chance of getting back to those lofty heights than it ever did back in the Div 3 days...
  15. We certainly weren't boring back then, nice and direct with big Terry in charge.
  16. Harsh bro I no guys who's kids refused to watch the utter gash been served up in the last 3 seasons gotta mind for a lot of these people ICT were there 2nd team watching us take pumpings from likes of Dunfermline be as appealing as a trip to a dodgy dentist!

https://ictfc.com/proud-ness-and-inverness-caledonian-thistle-fc-announce-partnership I see from this article that the original plan was to have it flying for the weekend of the Proud Ness march, but given that homophobic language remains prevalent in football grounds and gay footballers remain unable to be open about their sexuality, I think there is good case for keeping it there. I'll be writing to the club to put forward my point of view and will include the very important point made by IBM above.
  18. If that is correct then obviously the manager didn’t want to lose him Alan.
  19. Just out of interest Who would you start instead of Jordan PC?
  20. Oh dear another shambles at home and people are wondering about crowds falling like snow of dykes no rocket science u don't pay to watch a gash band the fair weather fans left with yogi and the glory days leaving us die hard 1500 or so ! Bad day at the office
  21. Swear they left when we went down. Regard those fans as scum, hopping on board when we're doing decent then leaving when something goes wrong. No loyalty in them...
  22. Na afraid I won't be going working in Dundee for a while would be good tho Ayr looks a class ground!
This leaderboard is set to London/GMT+01:00
