  1. No Laurence, shame on you. Maturity in terms of years clearly doesn't equate to maturity in any other sense and, by the way, there's no need to shout ! In terms of being one of the few posters on this site wholly unable to take a bit of friendly ribbing, a lot of much younger posters do indeed put you to shame. Perhaps if you lightened up a bit you would get more out of this site and the rest of us might get something positive from your contributions.

  3. Your CAPS LOCK key is on. 'Shouting' doesn't make your point any more valid. Granted, I had a 'wee dig', but the postponement on Saturday had been noted and discussed on both the game and travel threads from 7.30am that morning. It was the hot topic on CTO and how you managed to navigate the forum to this thread (at 12 noon) without noticing or even having an interest in the outcome of the pitch inspection at Hearts, is beyond me - perhaps you've got this page bookmarked! Having paid taxes for 30 years, I'm of the generation that does still 'recognise' my elders but I also know that respect has to be earned - it's not merely lavished on those who have simply 'reached a certain age'. That said, you need to 'grow up'! If anybody's being 'immature' on this board, it's you, Laurence. Your posts consistently carry an underlying bitterness and often hint at entitlement and self-importance...

  4. Its innovative and different, so fair play to the league for actually trying something less mundane. Whilst I dont overly endorse the idea of regionalisation due to the familiarity factor, it makes sense when you think about it ... if we, an established premiership side, baulk at the idea of travelling the length of the country then how much worse must it be for some of the lower league sides with even less budget or resources. As for timing ... where else would you fit it in? The season is now basically a 10 month one (AUG-MAY) and on two out of every 4 years there is either a World Cup or a Euro Championship to worry about (albeit not a big worry in Scotland for a while). The format seems to be harking back to the early days of this competition where it was played in a group stage too, but in those days it was the top clubs distributed in one set of groups and the lower teams in another ensuring some of the lower league teams reached the quarters .... it will be interesting to see how it goes. I also agree that the winners of both of our cup competitions should get a Euro spot. I always thought it was UEFA who had moved the goalposts here but apparently it is within the purview of the national association (SFA) to grant a Euro spot to the winners of both the primary and secondary cup competitions. They removed it in 1995 when our co-efficient dropped badly and we only had a few teams in Europe and it was felt that the winners of this competition typically qualified from the league or Scottish Cup anyway. The fact that lower division Raith Rovers were the last qualifiers to get in this way apparently didnt seem ironic to them. As someone who has supported ICT since day one I like the idea that this could be another way into Europe, especially for smaller teams given that the timing means the higher ranked teams may not yet be firing on all cylinders and it might afford a greater chance for a smaller team to have a 'Roy of the [Raith] Rovers' type run to the final and then to the European stage (where Rovers incidentally went out to eventual winners Bayern Munich in the 3rd round !!! - better than many teams nowadays [including us]). If we (Scotland) accept our lot as a European minnow these days then allowing the winners of the cup, and their fans the adventure and romance of the cup in this way might prove enjoyable.

  7. The wording (taken from the Scotsman) is crucial ... "Group stage draw seeded and, where practicable, regionalised. One Premiership team in each group." The Glasgow Evening Times expands a bit more: "The draw for the group stages will be seeded and will take into account this season's league placings (ie. Rangers and Hibs would be regarded as seeds in the event that they win promotion this season) but in practice true regional groupings may be difficult to achieve. Similar to Uefa draw procedures, the SPFL will simply stipulate that teams are not forced to travel huge distances." The 'penalty point' is very similar to Ice Hockey although even there they play extra-time ('overtime') before going to the penalty shootout. 3pts for a win, 2pts for a 'winning draw' and 1 pt for a 'losing draw' ... seems to work ok.

  10. I do hope that we can hold onto Miles Storey but given his current form with us, think we may struggle. On that basis, we do need a couple strikers and I genuinely hope Storey is one of them. With regards to Darren Murray, if he was worth it, Yogi would have signed him. Hopefully we can get our top scout Kenny Cameron to bring in another decent striker.

  11. Fairly on the the fence with this one. Not averse to changing things around but I would prefer to do away with the 'regionalisation'. This would be a good chance to see ICT (for example) playing some teams that we don't often get to face but instead we are likely to be paired up with Ross County (for even more derbies which have long since lost a lot of their appeal), Aberdeen and the Dundee sides. All a bit boring really. Potentially playing the likes of Peterhead, Elgin or Brora would be quite good but I think part of the beauty of any Cup competition is that you could face just about anyone. I think 'fixing' who you can and can't face detracts from that. I also think that having all the games in such close proximity to one another will reduce crowds at a time when a lot of people are on holiday and shelling out for so many games in a short space of time will put people off. And from a selfish point of view, because of the 'regionalisation' of the competition it's unlikely I'll be able to get to most of the games being down south which is a shame especially if we ended up playing a side which is somewhat more 'unique' than most. Excluding the European qualifiers from the tournament until the latter stages is odd too. They need match practice to get up to speed but all the other teams in Scotland will be tied up in this competition in July so no one will be free for friendlies so they'll need to look further afield for matches to get up to match fitness. Getting BT Sport on board is good, however I note again that the SPFL decline to say how much the deal is worth, and I quite like the penalty shoot out after a draw at the end of a game. I'm intrigued by the proposals but certainly not jumping up and down with excitement.

  14. About a year ago my mate got us a pair of tickets to see the Manic Street Preachers - as it turned out, it was on Cup final day and the celebrations meant I never actually made it to the gig. 12 months later, they've just announced another gig in Scotland, and would you believe it, it's on Cup final day again. So I'm getting another ticket and very much hoping not to be there!

    • Montrose 0-0 Inverness CT - Play Off 1st Leg
      FULL TIME: 0-0

All to play for on Saturday, but don't hold your breath...

However, if we continue like this, it will be our final game this season.

Best performer for us was Samson Lawal, the only bright spark on the field.

Alloa 2-2 Hamilton was the other semi-final score tonight. On this evidence, I doubt either side will be quaking in their boots.

    • Inverness CT 3-1 Morton - Report
It was a lovely evening for a game of football, what could possibly go wrong? Well, what did go wrong was Queen's Park beat an understrength Airdrie 2-0 at Hampden, therefore despite beating Morton 3-1, Inverness head for the play-offs. Morgan Boyes opened the scoring with a thumping volley after half an hour. Kirk Broadfoot benefited from slack defending to level before the break then proceeded to earn the wrath of the home support with an embarrassing celebration in front of the North Stand. Cammy Harper relieved Billy Mckay of penalty kick duties and duly slotted home from the spot ten minutes after the break. The scoring was completed just after the hour when Sean McAllister drilled home into the bottom corner. Robbie Muirhead had been sent off for simulation then taking a wee fit to himself and was promptly sent off after 58 minutes just after Harper had knocked in his penalty kick, probably aggrieved that he never earned a spot kick for his dramatic dive.

Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D

    • Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Out of our hands now: It ended in disappointment for the 319 visiting fans with news that Queens Park had hammered Arbroath 0-5. To rub salt into the wounds, Sheridan and Welsh were amongst the scorers. It's out of our hands now, but it's a must win next Friday and hope Queens Park falter.  Inverness play Morton and Queens play Airdrie. A draw might be enough, but it's a long shot.

I'm not convinced that Billy Mckay was the right man to be taking that penalty, his second failure from the spot in successive games against the Pars.

    • Dunfermline Ath -V- Inverness CT - Preview
Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.
