Adam Rooney always gets a good reception from the crowd and I'm always hearing "get Rooney on". Is this just because he has a good name/good song? Yesterday to be fair he couldn't have been worse than Sanchez but I don't think he adds anything to the team. His movement, touch, strength and finishing in front of goal are horrible.

Considering the amount of start etc yea he still ended up the top scorer. He needs to get the manager to have a bit of confidence in him and he will do good. If you look at his history he is the most experience player along with Foran . He has played with Stoke City , played in League 1 and League 2 and have international experience from under 17 - 21 . You just dont become a bad player overnight - i think himself and Foran would be good up front together. Richie if the type of player that likes to drift but Rooney will get into the box .

i agree he just needs confidence, a player without can be a completely different player to that who has. Rooney i think is a good player, butcher needs to give the guy a run of games to give him a chance of getting his confidence up.

Well its being said before we need a experience striker. TB and MM were both defenders and by looking at the dugout at games there the only two coaches we have right now. So theres not really anyone there to help the strikers out with shooting etc....

Craig Levein got Robbo in to train his strikers near the end of last season or so....im sure Robbo would be more than happy to come in for a few practise sessions? They dont come much better than him to hit the bag!

I think Rooney has promise. It's all about confidence with strikers and he can't have much if he doesn't start even when Imrie, Barrowman and Odhiambo are all out injured. What's that all about?Yes, he has missed some one on ones when he should have done better but at least he has got himself into these positions. When he is on the park he always looks likely to score. When Barrowman is on you just hope the defence plays well so we can scrape a goalless draw. Barrowman has had a good run in the team and has scored only 2. Tokely has a better strike rate than him with Munro not far behind! Rooney should be told he is getting a prolonged run in the starting line up.

I think various combinations of Rooney, Imrie, Odhiambo and Foran could do pretty well for us and could lift some of the current gloom. No doubt TB will carefully assess his options when players are fit and play Barrowman as a lone striker.

Do you actually think that the club would bring back a previous Manager to coach our strikers? :biggrin01:

Would they or should they? Two very different questions.

I don't think they would, as I don't believe it is within them to see beyond the end of their own noses at times.

As to whether they should or not, that is a call for the Manager to make. If he thinks the forwards would benefit from having some specialist coaching and he thinks that an ex-manager is the man for that job then I don't see the issue if funds are available to allow that to happen.

Dealing specifically about Butcher and Robbo, I don't think Butcher would be at all undermined or feel threatened in any way by having an ex-manager on the staff and I also don't think Robbo would bring/cause any issues if he was to find himself in the roll of striking coach.

that said CaleyD our board dont seem to get on verywell with Robbo!! and I happen to know our board has burnt its bridges with Robbo, I cant see him back...

We've had a problem with goals for a good couple of seasons now. We were much more prolific under Robbo.

The idea of Robbo as part time forwards coach would appear to have merit with neither Butcher or Malpas having any direct experience of playing at the sharp end.

Robbo was one of Scotlands best goal scorers back in his day....

I agree with that, however he needs to start scoring soon before we lose all faith in him, he is a proven goal scorer, but seems to be missing the confedence... Come on Adam!!

Rooney has to be facing the goal so the long huff from Grant is no good. What he needs is a partner like Wyness someone who can control the ball with his back to goal and bring people into play. I believe Foran can do this but not when the ball is played in at head hight.

Simple play the ball on the ground and move.

I agree entirely actually. We have Hayes, why aren't we using him as much as we can? He's proved he's capable of getting past his man! Against County, I lost count of the number of times I saw Hayes in the centre of midfield.

Being essentially a counterattacking team, we don't create the sustained pressure that will get you tons of setpieces. If we played a sustained pressing game (e.g. what c*unty did on saturday), we might. AR would then profit, but we don't and he won't

I would rather have Barrowman start than Rooney. He always ALWAYS has his back to th goal (Rooney)

Adam Rooney needs a couple of goals and then he`ll be ripping that net. he also better than Barrowman because all he does is tricks instead of shooting.

Rooney and Foran both work well up front so im waiting to see them link up and score :D
