Adam Rooney had the ball in the net on his debut for Oldham in the same match but was ruled out for some infringement. Goals aside, three former ICT players featuring in the same English League match must be something of a record.

Rooney scored another for Oldham last night, 4-1 win over Shrewsbury in the cup.

Rooney isn't doing too badly anymore. Maybe if a League 1 club had originally come in for him and he'd done so well, he may have been flying in the Championship by now.

Rooney would likely have done very well at Birmingham but unfortunely a change of manager and a need to severely cut costs led to him being surpluss to requirement.

From a newspaper at the time

The Irish striker had agreed to join the Robins on a permanent basis this summer but, when the club was taken over in February, the new owners said they would "review" the 25-year-old's contract because of its "high value".

I read somewhere that the initial Swindon contract was supposed to be £8000 a week + living expenses. New owners decided this was too much for a league 1 player and tore it up. PFA were involved in dispute but Rooney decided not to continue pursuit and signed for Oldham, where he'd been training, instead.
