P & J has a wee article today saying that we have got Buchanan from Cowdenbeath on trial and we are weighing up another 3-4 SFL players for possible acquisitions come January, anybody got a take on who they are?

Don Cowie and Mark McCulloch from the feeder club.

This Buchanan guy sounds interesting, he's scored a few in the Second Division.

Ex Captain McCulloch who went to Livvie with Wilson and Xausa?????

Not exactly names to get the pulse racing.

I realise we have to shop within our budget though  :006:

If we keep nicking players from County

The First Division is where we'll be!!!

Neither of them excite me much... not exactly going forward, is this all we can afford?

What I can't understand is that a striker and 2 centre mids have been mentioned surely CC must realise that our problems are on the wings and also trying to find a replacement for Dods... mind you a 'decent' defensive midfielder would be good!

CC quoted in the press saying that a creative wide player is the type we would be looking for and that this Buchanan lad, if signed, would be one for the future

My mate is an Ayr fan, said he looks a very good talent - worth the £10,000 anyway! No comment on Cowie and Mcculloch though, hope to god they are just rumours.

CC quoted in paper as saying Cowie is NOT in his plans.

A young Dargo??? /or Dargo's replacement???

Sounds like an exciting prospect but still think our major issue for this transfer window should be locating some competition for defensive places and quick wingers  :003:

A replacement or at least cover for Rosscoe is essential!

Cowie is a no go (apparently)

No word on McCulloch

Blue Brazil lad on trial with a potential 10k fee I think it was?

Hmmmmm......... doesn't sound exciting or ambitious does it? when what we really need is a couple of experienced players, well I suppose we'll have to wait until Jan and hopefullly we will get a boost.

From the BBC website: Buchannan

I'm not too optimistic about signing the SFL players mentioned. They're good SFL players, but can they really step up to SPL standard? I guess we'll just have to wait and see ...

I dont honestly think Buchanan is part of the january signing plan. I think the management team see a potential youngster who they can groom over the next few months in the hope of him being a prospect for next season. I'm sure there are players in the pipeline who will come into the first team. And not County rejects either.

donkey.....we have a whole team of ex SFL players. Thats where they tend to start their careers.

Why all of a sudden are players from the SFL not good enough?  We've made very few signings from SPL teams in the past and it's served us well to date.  Yes, it would be nove to be signing "bigger" names, but thats just not going to be a reality until we can improve the financial position of the club and thats going to take a few years yet.  In the meantime we have to keep our faith that Grassa and Co can continue to bag the best of what is available and within our budget.

Buchanan is top scorer in that league with 12 goals.

Saw Buchanan 2 weeks ago in Scottish Cup tie. Small and nippy but nowhere near Prem Lg standard. Rory is by far a better player and imo £10k could be better spent elsewhere.
