Road 2 Hampden

Many of you may remember The Highland March - a walking event between the final two league matches of ICT's season, of which took place every year from 2003 to 2015.

Well, two of us former marchers have come together to do something different in the build up to the Scottish Cup Final.

Steve 'Yompa' Taylor (formerly known as 'InterTheNet') will be donning the lycra to cycle from Caledonian Stadium to Hampden Park IN A DAY. Steve sets off at 3am on Tuesday 30th May, and I will be joining him as the support driver.

We'll be doing this for charity, with all monies being split equally between MikeysLine and the Celtic Foundation. Both of these charities provide mental health support to people of all backgrounds, in and around Glasgow and the Highlands.

We invite you to follow us on Twitter (@Road2Hampden) where you will find the Just Giving page. Please donate what you can, if you can.

Thank you 😊🔵🔴

Thank you 😊

My sources tell me that Yompa was on his bike again today, and on Saturday he'll take on the climb (vertually) out of Inverness, thus giving an indication of a rough time in which he aims to complete the challenge 👍🏼

I've never known such a dedicated and determined nutter. Proud to have Yompa as a friend and inspiration. Lad deserves all the support we can muster.

This is one hell of an undertaking and I have no doubt he will do this. Please bare in mind he is no youngster....he's 70.

Give what you can please.

2️⃣ DAYS TO GO until Yompa sets off from TCS 👍🏼

A reminder: He's a 70yr old bloke who's cycling 185-miles from TCS to Hampden, in just 1-day!!!

Nearly £500 has been raised so far - half way to the initial target - with funds being split equally between MikeysLine 🔵🔴 and The Celtic Foundation 🟢

ICT have supported MikeysLine since their inception in 2015, and John Robertson is an ambassador for the charity. They provide Mental Health support to people across Inverness and the Highlands.

But why Celtic Foundation too? Over recent years, supporters of the foundation have helped Yompa raise money and awareness for the Solving Kids Cancer charity. It's his way of giving something back, at a time when two teams with history in this competition come head to head in the final.

Every donation helps, and we'd like to thank everyone for their support 👍🏼 Please follow on Twitter, @Road2Hampden 😊

Steve down at Caley Park this afternoon getting a few photos inside the stadium before he kicks off tomorrow. He will be leaving Inverness at 3am. Steve & Rob (his support driver) are in bed now alarm set for 2am.

Good luck Steve (Yompa) 🔴🔵.

He did it!!

15hrs51 total duration, with the pedals turning for 13hrs26.

03:00 start, Daviot by 03:30, and Aviemore by 05:30. He'd got to Dunkeld by 11:00 and was through Stirlingshire in no time at all, arriving at Hampden at 18:51

What an effort. What a man.

Monies raised go to Mikeysline and Celtic Foundation (like a the start of thread).

Thanks to all who supported and donated. Very much appreciated.

Thank you Scotty and everyone else on here who has donated.

Aaargh I missed this - well done you absolute nutters!!! 👍

I wondered what you’d do for your 70th this year Steve, can’t believe it’s now 20 years since yer daft idea for the Highland March was born to mark your 50th! Such grand memories, I’ll never forget them, definitely made special by the great team that took part.

Donation on the way - what the fekk are you gonna do for your 80th? 😀

After a brief discussion, I think I'm slowly persuading him to climb Schiehallion again 😉

We met an 80yr old bloke climbing it as we decended from the top on HM3, but he started from the car park. Yompa would need to go one bigger and start at Tummel Bridge 🤣

Donations closed at midnight on Sunday. The total raised was £1,513

That's just over £750 each to Mikeysline and Celtic Foundation 👏🏼

Thanks again to everyone who donated and supported this venture 👍🏼🤗
