Our squad next season

I am fairly certain that most fans/posters on here know that at the end of this season there is likely to be a mass exodus of players leaving so my simple question is, would you rather we replaced them with experienced players or youngsters because I am clearly in the youngsters camp but would also believe that we may need some experienced players no matter what league we're in but especially if we're in league 1 which is the worst case scenario but also the most likely unless we can win our 6 pointers against Arbroath, Queens Park and Dunfermline šŸ¤”.

I don't know who's here for next season but I would imagine that the key ones to retain if at all possible are Billy McKay and Mark Ridgers : ictscarf:

Struggling to find the thread posted before with the list of who's we still have contracted.

I know Billy is signed but on recent evidence his legs are gone and he's in a steady decline. If his salary aligns with league 1 restrictions I'd try retain otherwise let him leave if he finds a better option.

I can't recall the others, if anyone can help. There was a great detail speeadsheet list someone did?

@IBMĀ thank you. Maybe this thread can be pinned to the top now as its got the latest info and allows discussion on the squad next year. Top work pulling that together.

If you're tagging MacGregor as injured best do the same for Doran. Nine months out apparently.Ā

Ā Not sure of their contract situation, but don’t we also have Corey Patterson, Sam Nixon and Jack Walker on the books?

Just checked the Club website, can also add Callum Macleod to that list.

That's a shame, I was thinking that League 1 football would offer the opportunity to prolong his career with us by another season at least.

Bloody hell that is scary. so there’s about 5 players under contract!Ā

Fingers crossed we can keep devine, both cammys, Hyde, bray and cairns maybe even Duffy to add with what we have. Wouldn't cry if Billy left especially if we could use the cash to fund some of these guys.

Devine is our only real leader within the squad so we need a character like that to stay......

Good players we have.Ā

Ā

Savage

NicholsonĀ

Thomson

Bray.

Brooks

The rest will be youngsters and maybe one addition in goal.

At least we have Longstaff for another season šŸ‘

Was speaking to a couple of parents who have kids in our youth set up.

they have requested, been given, trials to join county youth set up.

getting their kids in before the stampede ???

Billy McKay wants to stay and help lead us back to the Championship which is a bonus imho because his goals could be crucial in League 1: Source is the Inverness Courier.

Others may disagree here, but unless he cuts his wages then I'd expect him to be a higher earner which could be better used to fund more than one player. Additionally given his age, dwindling mobility and pace coupled with the increased physicality of League 1 - I'm not convinced he will bang in the bags of goals he or other think. Time to freshen up and find the next 'Billy'.

I for one think he’s got plenty of miles on the clock but plenty in the tank. If he’s asked to be a finisher in the box then he’s our man. He’s been played out of position for most of this season. He’s a model pro who has kept himself fit and if he’s able to help ā€˜coach’ the likes of Cairns then so much the better. How many goals did Dobbie (QofS) player hit in his late 30s ?Ā

I believe Devine has triggered a one year extension on his contract with the amount of games he has played. Ā Ferguson tried not to play him (obvs was not in his plans for next season) but due to injuries he was forced to play him.

Great news but, if that is true perhaps Dunc was instructed NOT to play him and maybe others too with similar clauses? Maybe what we see on the surface is only part of story?

Jan clear out of players - Done

Lack of game time for established players (maybe more of them have clauses like above) - Done

Bring in loans who always have to play (in return for parent clubs probably ask little to no contributions perhaps) - Done

I for one will not be travelling to Inverness every 2 weeks to watch a bunch of loanees with no passion for the club and no connection to the town they are supposed to be representing.Ā

Had enough of that this season.

There's a centre half at Buckie, Jack Murray who's 23, has been one of the best players in the league supposedly. For a defender he has scored 26 goals in 51 games which is phenomenal. I'd be much happier if we're looking at these kind of players rather than useless jobbers coming up from England.

Not necessarily due to Ferguson’s view on Devine, the problem here is perhaps that Devine’s contract would have been done when we were splashing the cash, but over the last few months we have had to cut costs severely and cannot really afford to retain him on those terms. Even worse now that we are League 1.

Don’t believe they were splashing the cash last year when Devine signed his contract! Scottish Cup money used to pay back loan/directors and no additional money to the playing squad. Ā

It’s still likely to be rather excessive relative to the amount we would be willing and able to pay now, ie since the cost cutting started mid-season, and exacerbated significantly by the relegation. Previous contract commitments risk being millstones around our neck. As for Billy, we had no credible alternatives up front.
