  1. Same old, same old, been going on since i started going to football, will still be going on when i stop going. Polis, politicians, football reps all meet, talk pish, agree how terrible it is,tell us all how bad behaviour will not be tolerated, so all diddy clubs will get policed even more strictly, the actual culprits will continue to sing what they want, pish where they want, stand where they want and not a jot will be done to change things, except average Joe in small groups will be targeted with football bannings to "make examples" and show how this behaviour will not be tolerated.
  2. ...nor any longer the generation of people who were taught to respect authority... Have a green dot sir. No technology, no video replays, no bloody 4th official...just 22 players, a ref and 2 linesman.
  3. I actually doubt that the standard of refereeing is getting worse, and I've been shouting at them since 1970 or so. What is different is our ability to see what is going on. This ain't grainy black & white BBC anymore, it's multi-angled CGI enhanced Sky and that's where the problem lies. There are so many angles that you can question the ref from - he has two eyes, a brain, a load of ill mannered louts shouting at him from opposing viewpoints, a few thousand other ill mannered louts baying for his blood and the likes of Lennon spontaneously combusting. Now make a 100% correct, impartial decision at all times. You're having a laugh. Accept that mistakes will be made, and they will pan out over a season. The ref is still the "sole arbiter of fact" (what he says, goes) and long may it be so.

Plenty pre-merger photos on show inside the stadium, i.e. celebrating the club's roots. It might have been a touchy subject in 1994 (myself included as one of the touchies) but only a handful of hard cases still actually care. The club is 17 years old so half the support weren't even born in 1993/4. Either one or two people have been pulling your pi55er Dougal, or you need to get out more.

Totally disagree with Dougal (but thats not exactly a first!). Like it or not the fact is and cannot be changed that our club was formed with a merger of two old and proud clubs.I agree with Caley D that it is a shame that this is not celebrated.

[error='For the avoidance of all doubt']Once again, a thread where the name Jock Stein is mentioned seems to give certain posters a sense of entitlement about trotting out the allegation - never proven - that he was aware of the actions of James Torbett. We have said this numerous times, and this will be the final time - If you want to post that, please be ready for the consequences. The consequence of posting this drivel WILL be a full and permanent ban from the site. We do not need this drivel posted, and we will not accept it. You have been warned.[/error]

I wouldn't be erecting a statue to any particular individual. However, it's always bothered me that, as a club, we seem to shy away from everything pre-1994 so a pair of statues depicting the Eagle and the Thistle in recognition of the clubs roots and the work done by everyone to get us where we are would be most appropriate, IMO.

Whereas a Bobby Mann one would be completely unaffordable.
  9. McCoist and Lennon hardly made it into the "handbags" category with their outburst of petulance. I can't believe the over-reaction by the Scottish Media to what was a pretty typical, and fairly boring OF encounter. They're all whinging on about Scotland's shame, Glasgow's horror, etc, etc... There was even a debate in the Scottish Parliament this morning with one MSP claiming that domestic violence rises by about 50% throughout Scotland after an event like this. Calls for all future OF encounters to be played behind closed doors. What a load of crap! It's only a couple of weeks since the AC Milan - Spurs game, with the Gattuso/Jordan spat which was 100 times worse than anything that happened last night. Was anyone calling for all their games to be played behind closed doors? The only thing I would have taken exception to was the Rangers's players reaction to the ref over the red cards - he would have been well within his rights to issue more red cards for some of that stuff.
  10. The referee's job has never been easy. But it must be ten times harder for them these days knowing that almost every decision they make is scrutinised to the nth degree by 'trial by television'. Surely the time has come to use this technology to help them rather than crucify them. Rugby has embraced this idea for checking the validity of doubtful tries and it has not detracted from the flow and continuity of the game one jot. It could easily be used in football for goal line decisions, penalties and even corners. Personally I would not use it for offsides, but some might advocate this too. I think the rugby idea of 'citing' post the game is also excellent, and if used in football would certainly reduce 'diving' and other forms of foul pay or cheating which the referee might miss in the game. Come on Sepp. Step FIFA into the 21st century and get technology more involved.
  11. Im sure we all have funny or quirky stories involving our players. Please nothing defamatory or libelous, just fun. So heres mine. When i was studying for my degree, my first year was at Inverness College. I started seeing a young Richard Hastings hanging around with some of the pretty girls in my class. He was very young but a first team player at this time. He took a shine to one in particular ( no names) and even sat in on a couple of my classes, in particular a Marketing class. I think he lasted 15-20 minutes before the lecturer spotted him and asked him who he was. Young Richard tried to blab his way, but alas the lecturer was on the ball and asked him politely to leave. I always liked RH, nice guy. oh and i dont think he got the girl in the end,lol
  12. I was in the same year as Tony Low (ex-ICT, Peterhead, Nairn County etc.) at Culloden Academy. When it came round to work experience I was matched with the oppertunity to train with my beloved ICT... couldn't fecking believe it... stuff dreams were made of... next day went back in to School to find out Tony and his ex-footballer dad had kicked up such a fuss that my work experience place had been given to him and I'd been papped to a Kingsmills Leisure centre ... if it wasn't for Tony stealing my work placement I could have been the one subbed on to time waist at parkhead Feb 2000 ... .... or maybe not... but that's what I've convinced myself since anyway.
  13. How about bringing in a tennis type system where a team can challenge up to 3 desisions in a game, that will be looked at by a video ref, if the game ref gets the desision right the team loose a substitution. No challenges in the last 5 minutes in the game.

I think there is a reason the club shy away from everything pre-1994 and that is they don't want to inflame an already delicate and touchy subject Erecting an eagle and a thistle outside the main stand would be in my opinion a detrimental move on the clubs part and would achieve nothing more than stirring up a hornets nest dougal
