We must have the most pessimistic fans in football. Give the lad and the partnership a chance before writing them both off.5 points

A great result for us tonight considering the shambles we were at the weekend. Well done to all concerned for bouncing back in a very positive manner.3 points

The question is Butcher the man for the job, well yes he is actually a football manager whether we like it or not. I know everyone say he “good” with the press but that my problem. He tends to tell the press what he thinks which the press love. He is far too realistic which then means he is far too negative. I would prefer if he did what every other manager did and just talk up team, the style of football, all the plus points with the club and ignore the rest. We are top goal scorers at the moment with 7 goals in four games. Our recognised strikers have all scored along with 2 midfield players. We scored 2 goals against the champions elect, how many other team will do that this year in the SPL? At the start of season how many point would you realistically expect after 4 games, especially after play two of the top 4 club in the country? Personally I would have thought 4, a draw away to St Mirren and home win against Kilmarnock. So has the start of season been so bad that it is time to lock away any sharp objects. PS can anyone on here tell me that any of the game this season has been boring? I have been to all the games apart from Hearts (still upset). 16 goals with 2 red cards that an average of 4 goals a game with a red cards every 2 games. You don’t get that following EPL or Spanish teams.2 points

Brew left us as soon as he could. Was well on the way to getting Dundee United relegated. Failed there. Came back here when he wasn't wanted. Was pretty certain to get us relegated too. Butcher was the choice of CTO. Some might blame him for getting us relegated. I thought he gave us hope. Brought us up at the first opportunity. Has been nowhere near relegation since we came back up. Just started a new season with only one defeat and that's to the champions of last year and almost certainly this. The criticism is just way over the top this early in the season. But then, it's not about this season is it? It's about wanting someone to fail, so they can say "I'm right at last! We should never have hired him, no matter how well we've done these past few seasons!" It's just simply tedious. Shout for his head if he fails but one defeat to Celtic???? It's ridiculous.2 points

I disagree. The youngsters will get their chance but I think the manager needs to pick what he thinks is his strongest attack minded team available for this one. There are 3 reasons. We have yet to have a win in the league this season and there is a need for more time for the players to gel and particularly for the defence to gel. We are creating chances and scoring but are shipping too many. Get that right and we could win a lot of matches this season. Now is not the time to mess around with the side. There is also no point in giving players a "rest" because there is a weeks international beak after the Motherwell match. Linked to that is the need for team to get the confidence of a good win to get some momentum going. We need our best players playing well to acheive that. We should not under-estimate Arbroath - note that the Rangers were held by Berwick today and after 3 games are only 4th. Getting a win and hopefully by 2 or 3 goals or more should do wonders for morale. And as many have been saying on this forum, we need a decent cup run, both to ignite some momentum of support but also to help with our difficult financial situation. It may only be Arbroath but this is an important game for the club and we need to approach it with as much seriousness as if it was a crunch league game.2 points

This would mabye be an oppertunity to look at taking graduates from the local area. As someone graduating from uni next year I would love an oppertunity like this. The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen do degrees in Marketing, Journalism, PR, Buisness Management etc. Even trying to set up some sort of work placement scheme which is something that university prides itself on could bring in some fresh ideas.1 point

Exactly. For every Darren Mackie there is a David Davis For any player to have interested Arsene Wenger or his scouts enough to sign for them then there must be more than a splash of potential. If we can help these youngsters realise that potential whilst supplementing our squad then i'm all for it1 point

"This is the beginning of a partnership with Arsenal that will help their younger players gain first team experience with Inverness Caley Thistle in this season and the future." Let's hope it's better than the Sheffield Utd partnership!1 point

Extract from Arsenal's website:- A powerful centre forward, Philip impressed in his role as a lone striker in the Under-18s last season and finished as the team’s top goalscorer with nine goals. His consistent displays for Steve Bould’s youngsters earned him a call-up to the reserves, where he plundered his first goal against Wolves in February 2012. A Republic of Ireland youth international, Philip joined Arsenal from Norwich in summer 2010 after impressing Liam Brady and his team while on trial at London Colney. Obviously not yet the finished article, but these credentials at least show some promise!!1 point

I hope TB puts out a strong team for the cup games. With 3 SPL teams knocked out already, it has to be our best chance of a trophy.1 point

In my opinion, Shane is limited as a player and I can see why he plays where he does. he provides a useful "out" for Esson in the wide areas and has won about 60% of the balls knocked out to him in that area. It's what he does with them that is the problem. He doesn't appear to have the game intelligence to look a move or two ahead, which he has to in that role, especially in trying to provide the link to McKay. Where else do you play him? Central mid is probably his natural position (his scoring record would suggest his striking capabilities are average at best) but would he get a game ahead of Foran or OTJ or Draper? Probably not. I can see a day when Butcher plays two wide players in Doran and AN Other, and that will be that for Shane. As for McAllister, it's no surprise that a few SPL clubs have sniffed around him and quietly dropped their interest after a while. I wonder why? I suspect the answer is that he plain ain't good enough.1 point

Personally I think that small crowds in down to the whole match day experience at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. There is nothing the club can do about the football on show but there are thing which could be greatly improved the atmosphere at the ground. Where is the match build up before the game? Big clubs tend to have a build-up from 2.30 ending with the playing of the club’s theme tune before kick-off to get the crowd singing. Why don’t we have a theme tune? Preferable something everyone knows the words to. (Nothing by 10CC and Graza please) When we score where is the good music to celebrate with, where is the not so good music when the opposition score. Any tactic should be used to try up lift our team, we are at home. Forget this stiff upper lip rubbish. People who when to the Northern Meeting park last weekend would have been very disappointed if there was no big stage, flashing lights, big speakers etc to go with the acts on show. Also there is always someone collecting money at the gate. Why aren’t they ask to provide the entertainment at halftime. No free rides here. Even it is only an egg and spoon race. For example our next match is against Aberdeen, one team in blue the other in red. Gives both fans something to cheer at. All the club would have to do is veto anything suggestion which they did not like. Remember it is them who want to our money.1 point

League Cup action at Arbroath Inverness head for the seaside on wednesday evening to take on the 'Red Lichties' in a Scottish Communities League Cup tie at Gayfield, Arbroath. Named after the red lights that used to guide fishing boats back to the safety of the harbour, Arbroath is famous for a couple of things. Smokies, the delicacy made from salted and smoked haddock, and a 36-0 humping of Bon Accord in the Scottish Cup on 12th September 1885, and that included a disallowed goal. It was a good day for goals that day as Dundee Harp racked up a 35-0 win over Aberdeen Rovers and Heilan Dee and Gringo had plenty to talk about as they supped their real ale over a barrel of smokies. Gringo has given us a preview ahead of this banana skin game and here are his thoughts below........... A trip to Pleasureland and Gayfield.................ooerrr missus Last Saturday's disastrous result against the champions should have the desired effect on the side to go out and right the wrongs of that dreadful performance. We take a break from SPL duty and return to 'grass roots' football and a chance to return to the real world of terracing, corrugated tin roofs and concrete toilets. However, despite the nostalgia to be gleamed at these grounds the single the main attraction of any visit to Arbroath is a chance to take on a smokie or two! Smokies, a beer and football........should be like this for every game? The Scottish Communities League Cup offers us the chance to go on a cup run of biblical proportions but, as we well know from past experiences, this competition doesn't hold too many happy memories for the ICT faithful. It was a Wednesday night back in 2008 when we last went to Arbroath which was in the same competition. A massive crowd of almost 600 saw us force a penalty shoot out after being pegged back twice in the game. We won the shoot out 4-2. We actually reached the quarter finals that season which is a rarity in itself. These competitions are special to the fans but, unfortunately, do not attract big crowds especially in the early stages of the competition. We enjoyed many a giant killing in our early days in Scottish league football but the boot is now well and truly on the other foot. We are now the 'giants' and potential scalps for sides like Arbroath. The history between us goes right back to our first ever League fixture when we beat them 5-2 at Telford Street. To date we have won 18 of the 27 meetings and can 'boast' a 100% record in Cup competitions...its only been three mind but a 100% record all the same. Arbroath are currently managed by former ICT legend Paul Sheerin and if anybody knows about how to go about giant killing he surely does. Who can forget his penalty on that infamous night in Glasgow? He will have his side well up for this tie, no question about that. How ICT will respond to this is anybody's guess but, as mentioned above, the lads should be very keen to put Saturday's result behind them and go all out to make sure a giant killing doesn't happen. For many of the side this is a new contest for them having never played in it before. The ground may also be a shock to the system to some of our English lads and if the winds blowing they'll probably get sand in the their eyes and the only wave they could expect see would be that of the North sea. It sounds like I'm making excuses for our cup exit already doesn't it? Current form:- ICT Despite Saturday's awful display the side haven't been playing that badly. We were unbeaten in 6 games (league) up until then. Our playing style has changed for the better this term with some good passing going on. We still lack that cutting edge in front of goal and are very dodgy at the back. Concentration will be the key throughout this game. Our commitment and desire to win has been evident in our first two away games this term and hopefully this will continue. Current form:- Arbroath: They have had a great start to the season and are currently unbeaten and sit on top of the second division. In their last game they game from 2-0 down at Alloa to win 2-3 and played the last 25 minutes of the match with ten men. Their confidence going into this game will be sky high. However, just like ICT, they have conceded in every game this term so far. Team news Inverness – As always Terry Butcher will see this a chance for some of the squad players to get some football in but, hopefully, he will have some experience on the bench just in case things do go wrong. There is no doubt that this will be a chance for us to see Reguero in action in goal and Liam Polworth to have a start. Owain Tudor-Jones may feature after serving his ban. Conor Pepper is also likely to start as is Gavin Morrison but Nick Ross will be absent through injury after dislocating his shoulder against Celtic. Arbroath – I would expect Paul Sheerin to field his strongest side for this encounter. However, he could be without Daniel Rennie who was sent off at Alloa last Saturday. In Darren Gribben they have what looks like a potential top scorer in this division as he has bagged seven goals so far this term. There's not much scope in their squad to change things around. A few ex-County players in their ranks, Tony Bullock the flamboyant keeper, Alex Keddie at centre back and Derek Holmes a striker who knows how to find the net. Gringo's prediction:– There is no doubt that this will be a tough encounter for ICT who will have to be on top of their game to get a favourable result. I believe we do have the players to pull this off and they do posses the desire and urge to right the wrongs of last weekend. This is a tie that is winnable but it wont be easy and may possibly go to extra time, which we don't want. I will settle for a nerve jangling 2-1 win for ICT.1 point

Well our problems are well documented it is expensive for the product not enough people in inverness support there local side (Old firm dominance as we know) and after last season lots have been put off and for a while the atmosphere has been rank rotten for a number of seasons which hasnt done anything to incourage people to come. Now the club did what fans asked and some wrongfully made promises that they didnt keep some didnt but wanted the club to do the right thing anyway. But i think one factor which still causes lots of people to stay away is the SPL is still the SPL. Rangers may have gone and wont be back for a while especially if there away form continues to be indifferent (haha). But the SPL is still uncompetitive and still uneven and has all the problems that continues to plague it even with one major obsticle cleared. People will return if the product becomes exciting and fresh something new which can get people excited as well as distributing money more evenly. The SPL needs to change because the club has done what is asked of it and hasnt really improved attendences and from where im sitting no club has really improved. Killie still average around 5,000 no real increase the bigger clubs like hearts dundee united who u think may come out in numbers as they have a chance to challenge celtic and also champs football they havent improved dramatically so we need to change and freshen up the product as whole1 point
