  1. It is absoulutely ridiculous that with just over 2 weeks to go we do not yet know on what day or at what time our QF tie against the Hobos is. Some of us wishing to go have travel and accommodation arrangements to make and with prices rising having to wait until after the Dee v Sons replay next week is utter nonsense. There again I suppose we can't expect anything better from the SFA or their paymaster TV companies.

The words quoted and tone were very audible. I do not know who uttered them but they were clearly directed at the Astra Manager and team who had been treated as the City of Inverness's guests. If you heard them you would have cringed. There was no defence. Nor is there any defence for people who lob or set off flares. What is the point? In terms of fairness, we live in an unfair world. When Celtic come to play us, most of their fans stand up throughout the game but I do not recall 100s being arrested afterwards. Our club tries to set high standards and on the assumption that the real perpetrator has been caught and punished that seems fair to me.

Same as it was one night 16 years ago?!
  6. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I would prefer Raven to Horner if fit, but otherwise go with what we had against Aberdeen, with Mutombo coming on for the last 10 to spice it up a bit.
  7. I have posted this in the ICT Forum rather than general football as I am delighted to say that national semi finals have become of increasing direct relevance to us in the past few years and, with any luck, could well be again this season. Whilst generally a traditionalist, I think the time has come to consider the semi finals of both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup being switched to two legged affairs. If it's good enough for the Champions League, The Copa del Rey and the English League Cup it could well be good enough for us. I see a number of advantages; Firstly, there is fairness to the club and supporters. In the last three seasons we have been forced to play cup semi finals against clubs in their home cities. It's to our great credit that we won two out of three of these but the fans were still out of pocket, the team disadvantaged and our numbers reduced to about 3,000 albeit 3,000 who made themselves sound like three times as many. This season already, both St Johnstone and County have been obliged to play semi final opponents at 'neutral' venues in their opponent's back yards. I am sure that there will be revenue advantages too, grounds are likely to be full or at least fuller. I know we struggle with crowds but I have little doubt that we would fill the Main and North stands and maybe even the wee West stand for a semi final on our home turf and whoever we play is likely to cram the South Stand for such an occasion. There would be two extra prestigious games to sell to TV and tournament sponsors and the proceeds could, as now, be pooled between all four participants and both TV and sponsors would much prefer full stadia rather than the sight of Hampden barely half full even when Celtic are involved. The final advantage is that the National Stadium would be kept for finals which would make those occasions even more special and unique than they already are.
  8. Would Monday nights team have beaten Astra I believe they would . Bring on another European journey

This is the best post in the thread. I do not agree with every word, particularly as I personally have an issue with the honesty and/or integrity of some stewards based on my own personal experiences but where guilt can be established without a reasonable doubt, and for everything else mentioned you are spot on . Stewarding is NOT only an issue if you hope to get away with unacceptable behaviour. You said it yourself in the very next sentence ... what about when the steward themselves is exhibiting the bad behaviour (ie. like lying or making stuff up or acting like some trumped up little hitler?). Not saying they did in this case, just that it bothers me that the sheriff appears to assume they are credible simply because they are in a position of power .... its like referees .... I have actually been present at games in the amateur league when I was on the committee and have seen incidents that then come up to the disciplinary committee and even though I know the referee report is a pile of horse**** and voice that to the committee we HAVE TO take the referee's word as gospel because at the time (pre Dougie McDonald) the SAFA and the SFA would never sanction a referee and admit they were lying. In terms of this particular individual who has been banned, if he did it then he deserves to get some form of sanction but as I have said already, it strikes me, based on the article, that there are several things that may or may not add up and I am left wondering whether it is possible that he too could have been misheard. Its completely irrelevant now as he was found guilty and banned but what really bothered me was the inference made in judgement that the steward(s) were beyond reproach. Whilst most are very good, friendly and decent, that has not been my experience with all of the stewards at the TCS nor at other football grounds on two different continents so I am sorry, I do take what they say with a very large grain of salt. It was a few years ago, before our then chief exec left to run the city centre. My friend was not officially excluded from the football as far as I am aware but was invited summoned down to a formal meeting with said exec as well as the DoF and threatened with having his season ticket revoked despite the lack of any credible evidence. He received a lot of support from those around him who verified his explanation of the real facts, and agreed that the steward(s) in question had - at best - either misheard him or were quite plain and simply lying. As someone who has (had) been a stalwart at the football since day one, and who had possessed a season ticket at the TCS since the day it opened, it left a very bitter taste in his mouth and he did give himself some self-imposed exile ... not because of any guilt, but because the club and its officers had treated him so shabbily. My friend, his wife, and his children still attend the football and still have season tickets but for a long time this episode was a very real impediment to his enjoyment.
  10. What was wrong with football at 3pm on a Saturday, and any replays necessary by agreement with the teams. Far too much tinkering about often to suit TV imo. Final at Hampden of course, but semis at nearest convenient ground large enough, which both sides are happy with.
  11. A few interesting ideas on this thread... IMO, there should be a distinction between the Scottish Cup and the League Cup. I'd be open to the idea of the league cup semis involving 2 legs, but not the Scottish Cup - it should remain as striaght knockout, possibly without replays. November completion for the league cup is a good idea. I agree that Hampden should be kept for finals only. This is probably a hangover from the times when Celtic and Rangers regularly made it to semis and theerfore only Hampden was big enough, but I think there should be some latitude for common sense decisions over semi-final venues. There is a chance, for example, that we could get through the quarters to face Ross County, Brechin, Dundee or Dumbarton - any of these games at Hampden would be laughable.....but it is the SFA!

Assuming you were one of the lucky ones then?
  13. Absolutely do not agree Richard Gordon called into question Ross Drapers integrity on national radio. Total abuse of his position in my book. Absolutely awful coverage before and after the game listening to old man man Miller droning on about how superior 'The Dons' are in their title challenge.
  14. OK then, I'll tell him. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35569144

1500 Aberdeen fans openly abusing the referee on Monday must be ok then. seems to be a case of double standards somewhere.

If your friend lives somewhat east of Inverness and found himself excluded from football for about a year before being completely cleared, it's probably the same person as I had a post-match session with in the Social Club on his return. The tale was so absolutely outrageous that I used it as a basis for a Highland News column illustrating the potential liabilities in attending football matches. If some of these people have such sensory awareness that they can quote verbatim what is said by one individual in a stand of screaming football fans, then why are they just stewards?
