  1. I always liked Rankin when he was with us before who can ever forget this goal some really pi$$ed off rangers fans walked with us after the game and they couldn't believe we could beat them. Not so sure about him coming back now as we are laden with midfielders
  2. 'All kick-offs are 3.00pm unless stated ' should probably read 'Your match probably isn't at 3pm or even on a Saturday unless it says so and it serves you right for not being a corporate sponsor or TV company you unwelcome non-OF supporting little oik - signed, Neil Doncaster'
  3. Ben Greenhalgh scored again tonight (19 Apr) for Concord Rangers in a 1-2 defeat by Truro City.
  4. This is a match day thread for discussing the football. If you want to promote bizarre and offensive conspiracy theories please do so elsewhere. The internet is full of fora catering for such nonsense.

Rival, just look at the clubs that are in the lower leagues and whom have been professional longer than we have, and be thankful.
  6. 87 mins : Rennie scores ! 88 mins : Hughes ! 2-2 ! What a comeback ! FT : 2-2.
  7. Maybe stats show an improvement but the objective is to bring players up to first team standard and we certainly don't see much progress in this area.

  9. Just a wee word again about Eat Fife. Not only were they top of the Scottish football scene in their heyday but they have now won the Division they are in at this time and so will move upwards again next season. Whether Bayview Park will be sufficient to house the hordes of away fans that hopefully will flock to Methil is a moot point. It's not the most inspiring place on earth I have to admit but, to be quite frank, I enjoyed some of the matches there in my younger days immensely. These were the days when they played with five forwards all in a row across the park and watching the play flow from man to man was both idyllic stuff and reminded me of a top rugby team in full flight. As I have previously opined,East Fife were once so in demand for matches, even in England, that they just wore the team out and then the demise and downward momentum started . C'mon the Fifers, even if the huge coal pits are a faint memory now. Did you guys know that Methil was once the premier coal-exporting port in Great Britain. Yep, them were the days.

The fate of Caley Thistle from now on will be like the attraction of love-making --- it's an up-and-down process. And that's s why we unconditionally support the team through thick and thin 'cos we love 'em? eh?
  11. No, the post spit fixtures were agreed in conjunction with the TV companies.
  12. Sadly, that's what happens when a sport sells it's soul to television made all the worse by the fact that our incompetent administrators didn't even get a decent price.
  13. Seriously Kingsmills? Gutted? Disappointed yes, gutted . . . not quite. There is a reason it is called the "Who Cares Cup". In terms of prestige, we hold THE one worth winning. I would have been more gutted had we been in two cup finals in successive years and not won. Thankfully it all worked out beautifully. We lost one year on penalties (lots, really), and won the following year with a creditable performance. Happy with what we achieved. As for C*unty winning the above . . . meh.
  14. FoolPhysio Sorry to hear you are thinking of 'leaving' FoolPhysio. I fully understand your reasons as the same thoughts were in my mind but what the hell, sticks and stones and all that, so why let the despairados win.? I too find that in most instances I enjoy this forum, there is excellent discussion on a diverse range of topics both witty and serious. Recently however the level of negativity has increased considerably. possibly because we have experienced a very unfortunate season. Criticism is one thing, we can all do that, good or bad but the scathing comments from some are very much below the belt, unjustified and often posted without reasoning. The trouble is if you go against their philosophies you are pounced on. Anyway Good luck to you, I hope you do stay with us, the forum needs people like you and I am sure I am not alone thinking that way.
  15. Might I remind you that it was you who criticised others for having their say and not the other way round. Of course you are welcome to have your say, but rather than simply having a pop at others for making critical comments, it would be far more positive to enter into some kind of debate and respond constructively to the points they make. For instance, RiG asked you a specific question which you have chosen to ignore. And others on this thread have criticised the manager for taking Storey and Mutombo off and replacing them with Williams and Vincent. Perhaps you would care to explain how taking off our 2 most attack minded players and replacing them with midfielders when we have yet to score is going to encourage folk to come and watch the team?
  16. With respect, Bughtmaster, there is every reason for you to explain yourself. This is a forum which exists to allow people to share and discuss various viewpoints. But when folk express views which are critical of the manager you come on here and criticise them for voicing those views. You don't address the particular points folk raise, you just say they shouldn't be expressing them. That is really rather discourteous. You are also highly inconsistent in what you say. Your gripe about Barry Wilson seems to be that his reports on matches (even when completely objective) will not encourage new people to attend games. But then when others express the view that the football on display is not very entertaining and make suggestions for a more attacking style which might attract folk through the gates, you criticise them for voicing those views. Of course, it may be that you feel the fare on offer has been thoroughly entertaining. You are, of course, entitled to your view. But if that is your view then kindly either explain what it is about it that you find entertaining, or refrain from having a pop at those with different views.. On that front, I asked you a question about Tuesday's game which gives you an opportunity to justify your criticism of others but you chose not to answer it.

And therein lies the nub of the entire issue - the manner in which the Old Firm distort not only any statistics relating to the game in Scotland but the actual game itself. Forget about Iceland and the Faroes. Their population is so small (and arguably there's nothing much else to do there apart from shooting seals and watching football) that statistics relating to them don't really have much meaning. It's therefore worth noting that the very biggest and the very smallest populations lie at opposite ends of that table. Uruguay is indeed interesting. It's the only country where the biggest two attendances are a bigger percentage of all football goers than Scotland's (55% compared with 50%). However Uruguay's population is 63% of Scotland's whereas the "top two" attendances (25,000 compared with 95,683) are only 26% of Scotland's. The difference is attributable to Uruguay's lower percentage of the country's population attending football (1.39% compared with 3.68%). A similar argument applies to every other "normal" sized country and the conclusion therefore has to be that by any means of measurement, Scotland's apparent (sic) standing is due to the massively disproportionate numbers attending Old Firm home games. Scotland's football attendances are therefore clearly strongly driven by the OF - but for completely the wrong reasons. In fact Sneckboy's table goes a long way to support my long held belief that what run Scottish football are not factors relating to football itself but more relating to the tribalism and sectarianism created by the religious and political divisions of West Central parts. It is the existence of these divisions which plays a huge part in pulling people into Ibrox and Celtic Park and to a large extent the football is somewhat secondary. One of the main drivers is the role which Rangers and Celtic play as vehicles for that politico-religious societal sickness which blights that part of Scotland. And then, once these two clubs reach critical masses for these non-football reasons, they also act as black holes which suck in all manner of glory hunters from everywhere else, leaving the rest of the Scottish game impoverished. Consequently, I doubt if there is a real football nation in the world where "support" is as polarised in the direction of just two clubs - for the right reasons, never mind the wrong ones as here - as it is in Scotland. On these grounds, to a large extent Scottish football is a distorted joke. Perhaps the most revealing statistics would be the percentages of a) the entire population and b) the football going population of each country who attend clubs OUTWITH the biggest two. I am quite sure that this would show the uphill struggle that Scotland's other clubs have in the face of these two artificially inflated refuges for societal strife. Sneckboy - are you up for another of your tables?

I agree totally SB, controlling variables is very difficult here. However I think one thing is quite clear about Scottish football. If Celtic and Rangers were "normal" football clubs as opposed to vehicles for factions which, over 400 years on, still basically haven't come to terms with the Reformation, the game here would have somewhat fewer attendees overall, much fewer at Ibrox and Celtic Park, but rather more at all other grounds..... as well as being far more interesting with a much more pleasant atmosphere in a lot of cases.

This is one of the variables which it's difficult to control. Dingwall may well be Ross County's base, but the club's effective catchment area is far, far wider. Taking Scotland as a designated area is a lot less ambiguous, although even there you do have loads of Irish coming across to Celtic Park and Ibrox - which again is evidence that the OF are artificially inflating Scottish numbers.
  20. I'm not so sure that Hibs are not currently in the Premiership because of past financial mismanagement which in their case was about 25 years ago - long before even Caley Thistle's financial near-death experience. I would be more inclined to say that Hibs are not in the Premiership for the altogether more conventional reason of having been downright rank on the park!
  21. Foolphysio, Bughtmaster, I was well in positive comments (having penned a song for the club) until I dared to tell the members that the war on terror and the attacks in France (charlie Hebdo) were a hoax. I stand by every word and if you want to contact me leave a message here (this subject arose regarding a bag left on a seat in the stadium), i also disagreed with Stokes joining us due to his Republican (IRA) baggage and received another storm of negative dislikes. So don't feel picked on, there are some on here who think they are clued in when in fact they are as ignorant as my cat. There are also some who think that Stoke's stance is justified. I don't happen to believe that the glorification of murderers is justified whatever their beliefs. Don't let the ignorant or bigoted wear you down. best regards Donald MacDonald
