  1. Sterner tests to come surely but can only beat what’s in front of us and we have done so impressively thus far Not often pre-season optimism stretches to three matches…and the aforementioned players still to come back…not felt this good about football for a long time…thank you Alan Savage and management and players for getting everything so sorted from the mess we were in
  2. I enjoyed that. We were very much the better side and I thought the attitude and effort throughout the team was excellent. There is still a lot of potential for improvement though. We gave the ball away too often and over-elaborated around the box because players didn't see the pass to a team-mate who was in a better position to hurt the opposition. Hopefully this will improve as players get to know each other better. It was strange to see the Peterhead keeper take so long about taking the goal kicks. It was as though he was resigned to defeat and was wasting time in order to keep the goal difference down. The referee was a disgrace. There were several totally bizarre decisions and almost all of them went against us. It didn't affect the result, but in a tighter game, such a woeful refereeing performance could have serious implications for the side on the receiving end. As Robert said, it was great to hear the crowd being above 2000. Indeed, it was also great just to hear the crowd. Well done to the youngsters who never stopped singing all afternoon.
  3. Bookings were ridiculous apart from Longstaff's. Poor Poor referee who virtually decided every tackle was a foul especially when the Peterhead players shouted in agony. Easily one of the worst referees that been here and that's saying something.
  4. Into the Black The two teams that got off to the best start last weekend met at the newly Christened SarensPSG Stadium but they start the day at opposite ends of the table due to our five point deduction in the aftermath of administration. Scott Kellacher had the pleasant dilemma of choosing his squad on merit rather than who is fit although Ross Millen, Adam MacKinnon and Jake Davidson require more time with Doc Proc before getting back on the pitch. Paul Allan made the bench. Peterhead have put together a decent squad full of Eastern promise with a few ex-Dons in their squad and plenty of experience in there as well. Peter Pawlett was injured last week and missed out, but Jack Newman, Cammy Smith, Jason Brown all started. The Caley Jags took a deserved lead as half time approached, the tenacity and quality of Wotherspoon on the end of a superb move. Liam Sole added a second ten minutes into the second period and that ended the scoring. Alas he went off injured soon after and with that the game went into a bit of a lull as the hosts recorded their second win to climb into positive points with Peterhead rarely troubling the home goal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A blustery afternoon that had already seen off the Moy Game Fair greeted the sides as the game got underway, the Caley Jags shooting towards the North Stand. A bright opening for the hosts put Peterhead on the back foot from the off. Although we dominated possession, Jack Newman was underworked in the visitors goal. Alfie Stewart brought out a great save from him after half an hour with a ferocious twenty-five yarder, the keeper flying high across goal to deny the wee man. The opening goal came five minutes before the break and it was a well worked move finished of by Wotherspoon. The set up was superb from Billy Mckay chesting an Alfie Stewart through ball down before laying it out wide for Oscar McIntyre to drill a low ball into the six yard box where Spoony did brilliantly to turn the ball into the net at the front post. We almost added a second but Newman saved brilliantly to deny Spoony with an acrobatic save. HALF TIME: 1-0 Liam Sole knocked in a second in the fifty-fifth minute after a Longstaff shot had been blocked by the keeper or the post but unfortunately Sole limped off injured minutes later. Enter Alfie Bavidge and it wasn't long before he was in action dragging a shot wide after a good run to the box, cutting in from the left. He then combined with Billy Mckay but the veteran striker saw Newman tip his shot over. The final twenty was a bit of a lull with Inverness in total control. A late cross from the left saw the ball strike a defender and bounced close to the base of the post and out for a corner and with the home feet off the throttle another snippet for a consolation was drilled wide when Carnwath really should have made the keeper work. FULL TIME: 2-0 Good result for the Caley Jags who dominated proceedings against a Peterhead side who came to park the bus. The referee was over officious and pedantic and constantly stopped play for the slightest of things making the second half duller than it should have been. Newman kept it close with two or three excellent saves whilst Ross Munro could have sat in the stand or gone for a coffee. Bottom line is that we are into positive figures so it's onwards and upwards from here. Accies and Alloa are the front runners on six points. On CTO: Bookings were ridiculous apart from Longstaff's. Poor poor referee who virtually decided every tackle was a foul especially when the Peterhead players shouted in agony. Easily one of the worst referees that has been here and that's saying something. Sterner tests to come surely but can only beat what’s in front of us and we have done so impressively thus far. 5. As a different example of ignorance, I used to get upset whenever I saw something saying that County was the "most northerly" SPFL club. I corrected The Guardian more than once, and pointed it out to other sources as well. I even set the question "which is the most northerly SPFL club" in a quiz that I was setting years ago, and was impressed that 20 out of 27 entries had the correct answer. One entrant pointed out that at that time County's own website made the claim. Easy to see why you'd think of County - you have to travel northwards from Sneck. But in fact the correct answer is Elgin City, whose ground I calculated to be about 4 miles further north than County's. Have a look at a map if you don't believe me.
  6. I emailed BBC and see the article has now been corrected.
  7. Peter Reid Fae Peterheid Volvo for sale! It's the Blue Toon Team who visit the Highlands on Saturday as newly promoted and League2 Champions Peterhead come to the Caledonian Stadium SarensPSG Stadium after both sides got off to a flyer last Saturday. Peterhead top the table after beating fellow promoted side East Fife 4-1 whilst we sit bottom of the table thanks to a five point deduction after beating Kelty Hearts 0-3. We have not met since a 2-0 League Cup win at the Caledonian Stadium in July 2021 with second half goals from Manny Duku and Aaron Doran. This was Billy Dodds' first competitive game in charge. Duku broke the deadlock with a drilled effort from just inside the box and Aaron Doran doubled the advantage with a stunning twenty-five yard shot into the top corner four minutes later. The hosts saw out the remainder of the game well in control with Peterhead rarely threatening. You can find out more about the three year deal for the Stadium Naming Rights with SarensPSG in the link below. Club Chairman Alan Savage said: “This is a fantastic and welcome piece of financial support for the Club from a company that recognises the benefit of ICTFC to all members of the Inverness community. “I cannot thank them enough. Let’s hope other businesses small and big follow their lead to put Inverness Caley Thistle on a solid financial foundation, so it can invest in a team that can climb up the leagues.” Never gets old 😂 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match Info SarensPSG Stadium ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ See Above Link Exclusive Offer for Our Season Ticket Holders! Inverness got off to the perfect start with a clean sheet at Kelty and three goals. Billy Mckay got League1 off and running with the first goal of the season in the 4th minute. Luis Longstaff added a second before the break and Spoony the ball conjurer straight from the Edinburgh fringe festival juggled the ball into the net to complete the scoring on the hour. New signing Alfie Bavidge got the last twenty minutes as we broke him in gently. McIntyre was one of the stars of the show with an impressive wing back display which got him into the SPFL team of the week. Ross Millen (calf, won't be risked just now), Adam MacKinnon at least a couple of weeks away and Paul Allan (groin) missed out, although Allan will be assessed before the game, and new striker Chanka Zimba was nowhere to be seen, presumable waiting for registration to be completed. He did play in the midweek NoS Cup game. Jake Davidson got his boots on for the first time and that's a big step forward for Jake. (no pun intended) On Tuesday night, an Inverness CT XI beat Lossiemouth 6-0 in the 1st Round of the North of Scotland Cup. Billy & Spoony oversaw this one with Alfie Bavidge and Jordan Alonge netting twice and Robbie Thompson and Ben Gardiner getting the other two. Chanka Zimba also started and won the penalty that Alfie scored. The Caley Jags now face Strathspey Thistle in the next round, venue and time TBC but it should be on 20th August, probably in Grantown on Spey. Scott Kellacher was delighted with the win last week but is not going overboard. We still have a few niggles but Paul Allan has a chance of recovering. Looks like Calum MacLeod will continue at RB. Jason Brown has been identified as a big player for the Heid who have brought in wisely in the close season. We might see Bavidge, Zimba, Robertson and Alonge challenge for a start after positive displays at Lossie. However, crowd pleaser Liam Sole could be the man to unlock the visitors defence along with inform Luis Longstaff and the experienced Billy Mckay and David Wotherspoon. Here's Peterhead's team that started last week against East Fife. There were first half goals came from David Wilson, a Kieran Shanks penalty and Jason Brown after Lewis Latona had scored early for the Fifers. Peter Pawlett came off injured in the first half and Brown added his second to round off the scoring in the final minute of the ninety. Good win for a solid Peterhead side against the League2 runners-up. The stats will show it was a fairly even game but it was the Blue Tooners that got the shots on target with East Fife squandering more opportunities Notice that Jack Newton is their keeper. They also have Niall McGinn. Some decent players brought in. In: Niall McGinn, forward (Glentoran); Jack Newman, goalkeeper (Dundee United); Fraser Mackie, forward (Aberdeen); Adam Carnwath, midfielder (Dundee United, loan to permanent); Craig McGuffie, midfielder (Dumbarton). Out: Rory McAllister, forward (Formartine); Ben Armour, forward (Brechin); Scott Ross, defender (Formartine); Robert Ward, forward (Inverurie); Jordan Armstrong, defender (Bo'ness); Jamie Walker, defender (Caledonian Braves); Conner Duthie, midfielder (Dunbar United); Kieran Gibbons, midfielder (retired). Leaked footage of the last clash with the prisoners shows SarensPSG getting their gear in place and it was 'nae jobby too sma' and 'nae stand too high' as they ceremoniously lifted Peter Reid's olde Volvo over the Stadium roof and onto the pitch in a fitting tribute to him and all at low cost with the advert thrown in for free. Now that's VFM. Volvo for sale!
  8. I agree that Sole’s was ridiculous as it was not a dive, but from the view I had of it I had no complaints about Savages. I also felt Devine was lucky not to be carded given the poor performance of the referee. Peterhead were adept at influencing his decisions. But I didn’t mean to detract from the team‘s performance as the start to the season has been excellent. 6 points and 2 clean sheets, we look a threat in front of goal again, and the players seem to be enjoying life. With Allan back, Millen and MacKinnon recovering and Davidson making progress, we have genuine competition for starting places. It was also great to hear the crowd being above 2000.
  9. That was more comfortable than I’d anticipated in windy conditions. Wotherspoon took his goal well after good work by Mckay in the box to lay the ball off to the impressive MacIntyre. Sole’s goal was a tap in after a good move. Other than some sloppy passing as bc has mentioned (add Savage and Devine to the list) and again picking up needless bookings, a very satisfactory afternoon and it’s good to be off the bottom of the league so soon. MacIntyre deserved the MoM award I thought MacLeod did well at right back, whilst Sole (hope his injury is not bad) and Longstaff caused problems wide, and McKay, Wotherspoon and Stewart all had good moments. Onwards and upwards.
  10. Great throughout the team and result. As SMEE simply puts, two league games in and two wins. Deficit of 5 minus points gone and ahead of three others teams. No failures for me in the first half. Good goalkeeping and windy conditions kept Peterhead in the game. Wotherspoons goal was well deserved and settled the team (and fans). Second half Joe Chalmers was a bit sloppy (otherwise my MoTM), where we could have an extra goal on top of Liam’s scoring debut. Entertaining game with Peterhead playing there part. Last word to the young team that sang throughout the match and brought much welcome atmosphere. bc
  11. I’m hoping, perhaps expecting, that our home fans will see more wins this season than for many a year.
  12. It’s time to make our renamed stadium a fortress again. We’ve done better away from home than at home in too many recent seasons so I’m hoping we start a great run of home league results today. We are the team the others in this league want to beat most as we are seen as the biggest team, and we can’t expect any game to be easy. Peterhead will be confident after last week’s result, and the wind may have a part to play too. But here’s to three points!
  13. Article on BBC today - how do you report an error to them?! Article written by the “BBC Highlands and Island Reporter” as well, oh dear. Edit to add that I have reported it to the error reporting emails address they publish. I resisted the temptation to query the claim that County successfully attract quality players!
  14. CaleyJags.ComFantastic tribute to absent friends on the above site. I'll leave this one here, one of our best known faces. 84 photos to scroll through if you hit the link to the FB page above
  15. The ICT U14s won their qualifying group with Jeanfield Swifts, Bayside and Ross County and in the semi final beat Dundee Utd. The final ended 1-1 against locals Falkirk and unfortunately the girls lost out on a penalty shootout.
  16. Very good performance, generally passed the ball well, should have won by more as were miles better than them today. Referee was simply atrocious, I just hope their screaming Number 10 (Shanks) wasn’t too badly hurt🙄.
  17. Fantastic start guys keep it up!
  18. Well done ICT. Into positive Pts total now. Onwards and upwards
  19. You don’t have to look far for Auntie’s bloomers these days… That was a terrible interview from Ferguson last night, what entitlement. An embarrassment compared to Valakari.
  20. What’s the best bit of Norn Iron? County Down. Boom boom!
  21. @big cherly We’ll be in Madreed on Oct 5th so going to see Real v Villarreal. Was hoping Atletico would be at home as we’ve been at the Bernabeu before, and saw CR7 score 4 goals. Still some fantastic players though.
  22. Never thought I’d see the day when ICT were playing Peterhead in the league and it was bottom v top!
  23. Need to keep an eye on that David Wilson bloke....he could be trouble 😁🤣
