Quality wise very poor first half, slightly better second with the introduction of shinnie.

Tacticly fantastic by butcher, bringing shinnie on at ht livened us up, and then ross with 5 left gave us energy in extra time, well done to the 54 away lads and lasses!

Tuffey obviously had a great match at both ends of the park. According to the report on the BBC website

Tuffey was outstanding as was Golobart apart from one or two mishaps. Wonder how bad his injury is, hopefully not as severe as it looked.. Andrew Shinnie, what a goal though. Made an immidiate impact and changed the game completely. Well done guys, BRING ON THE HOOPS !!! :twothumbsup:

TB told sky he asked Foran to wind up Hayes to get him going - I suppose yes I do agree with this kinda motivation - maybe Jonny was showing off because

Just back from the pub where I watched it with two or three other Scots. Haven't read all of this thread so apologies if I am repeating anything already said.

Pretty dire first half, Tuffey keeping us in it. Good substitution at half time. What a difference A Shinnie made. We controlled most of 2nd half and most of extra time. Two cracking goals by Andrew Shinnie and Tansey.

Another good substitution near the end of the 90 minutes. Ross also made a difference in extra time.

Didn't see the dust up between Foran and Hayes on the box. Guessing that Hayes took exception to Foran's loud mouth. Still, what a pair of plonkers! Lucky that neither of them had received a previous yellow.

Several great performances tonight - Tuffey immense, more than made up for his error in first match. Tokeley excellent. Tansey excellent. Hayes excellent. A Shinnie excellent. Golobart ? I can't make my mind up, absolutely outstanding at times and then again a bomb scare at other times. All in all though, I think his brilliance outweighs his lapses. I hope his injury is not serious.

On the minus side I thought that G Shinnie was poor, especially for Barrowboy's goal, and also his distribution in general.

But, hey ho, a win is a win. Roll on the 'Tics.

Good night with the non-travelling support in the Caley Club, absolute respect for the 54 ICT fans that did go, you looked well chuffed on sky. 1st half was dire, 2nd slightly better, but be honest - you have to feel sorry for Smith. He shouldn't be allowed near any sharp objects, bridges etc. tonight. Golobart was good again tonight, hope that the injury isn't as serious as it looked-there was a fair degree of twisting going on. G. Shinnie was bullied off the ball at the opener, and Rosscoe looked off the pace to start with. No idea what was going on with Foran & Hayes, but Jonny looked like he'd had enough of whatever it was. I'm happy with that result, though.

We have added an option to give the ref a score too. For now, this is just a bit of fun but we may instigate a league table for refs in the future.

I think there's a flaw in the rating options offered - based on SPL refs this season, surely "Average" and "Terrible" are the same thing!

From what Butcher said, it sounds like Foran was given the task of firing Hayes up on the park....job done I would say!!!

The camaraderie among our squad has to be the best we've had in a long time, so I'm sure it will all be forgotten by the morning (if not already).

Cox seemingly took a knock and dealt Terry's hand with the half time sub. Tel told Foran to wind Johnny up, throttling did the trick but think the ref could have red carded Johnny for his reaction as in slapping Foran he caught the ref too. I actually thought we controlled most of the game after the first twenty, without doing anything worth while. Shinnie changed the pattern when he came on and our attacking ploy turned the game thankfully.

Roll on the Tic, but Lennon wont be worrying on this performance

Phew! It sounds as though we rode our luck a bit there. Dunfermline are a poor side but they could well have put the game out of sight by half time. Perhaps these two matches and the prize at the end of it are the change of luck we need and there won't be such a nervy performance again. But what on earth was going on with Foran and Hayes? Is the atmosphere within the club not as good as we are led to believe? That sort of thing does not happen to guys who get on well together.

Anyway. We won and that's the main thing.

No I don't think so.............the Pars are a shockingly poor side and enjoyed the few miniutes of adrenalin rush afforded to them before we overwhelmed them. It's not a verb that sits well with us but in honesty we bossed three parts of that game and should have won it sooner. Let's be more assertive about our side, especially with the likes of Shinnie and Tade and Hayes in the team..............we are going places.

I am overjoyed at this victory. Too many gloom merchants looking at us as relegation fodder and just another team. We are neither. We are a decent team and deserve a bit more respect from more than just our own fans,

Foran gave Hayes a piggy back from the pitch last night so I guess all was forgotten. We were not great to be fair and the Pars are a poor team. Golabart was playing decent until his own bit of skill did him. Good result, keeps the Pars thinking they are never going to win a game.

Lennon would be a fool if he thinks last nights performance will be reflective of how we will play against Celtic. Granted, that was the poorest performance, in parts, for a long time but it has to be remembered that there was a great deal of pressure on the players and management to achieve a result last night because of the major financial rewards attached to a victory. That, I think, had an impact on our performance.

I have to say I don't think either Foran or Hayes should be fined cos it shows a passion for the club. If we were winning comfortably and that happened then there's issues but I am quite pleased to see how much both wanted the win. Dire game but right result so our roll to hampden continues :wink:

At the time, I would have agreed. However, as it seems Butcher instructed Foran to get Hayes fired up then it would be a bit remiss to be dishing out any punishment for it.

Granted, it might have gone a bit further than intended and being carded as a result was kinda stupid...but hey ho, we got the result and I think, given the explanation by Butcher and the fact everyone was friends again come the final whistle, then we should just shrug it off and forget about it.

I am one of the 54

Terrible first half performance from us, we just didn't get going and offered nothing up front. On Saturday we didn't offer much in the first half other than long range shots, we failed to match that this time. We also looked relatively disorganised at the back, with Barrowman exploiting space behind our defence to spurn a great early chance. I think that we looked more solid with Golobart and Gillet rather than Golobart and Tokely as our centre half pairing. The only chance we created in the first half was when we got a man free on the left but we dawdled and ended up bobbling a ball back to Smith.

I missed the Pars goal as I was going for a bridie Having just watched it on the BBC website, Graeme Shinnie should've done better with the cross, he was ball watching and Barrowman exploited that well to nod home. I don't think many in the Caley end could have complained about us being down and everyone knew we'd need to buck ourselves up to get back into the match.

As it happened we didn't need to buck ourselves up, the Pars handed us a lifeline with a horrific defensive mix up. A terrible header from Keddie went looping into the air and the confusion and timidity of the Dunfermline back-line saw Smith and Rutkiewitz in a fankle which gave Jonny Hayes his second tap in in a fortnight. Absolute calamity from Dunfermline, I feel a bit sorry for Chris Smith because it wasn't entirely his fault but looking at the incident you can see the lack of confidence and leadership from Dunfermline shine through.

For the rest of the half I thought we did well and Tade could've done better at the end of a strong run from the left but could only win a corner. Dunfermline forced Tuffey (much improved from his last showing) into a couple of saves but we had the best of it, albeit without forcing a winner.

IN extra time we strolled away with it. Andy Shinnie showed us what we've been missing this last month with a stunning drive into the far corner, completely unstoppable. We looked comfortable throughout the extra period and, after spurning a couple of opportunities, sealed the win with a neat goal from Tansey sending us home. Worth mentioning the stunning save Jonny Tuffey pulled off as the game petered out.

The crowd was poor but there was decent banter between the fans. I didn't hear anyone saying anything about NOrrie McCathie, what was that about?

Morton Away League Cup 25thJune2026

On paper this was going to be a dawdle. In reality these games are not played on paper and could prove to be more difficult with Morton puting out a much stronger starting XI than the one that went down to St Johnstone. We had a similar line-up to our last game with Joe Chalmers and Ryan Duncan starting in place of Wotherspoon and Paul Allan with Morgan Bates still missing. Morton brought in Longridge, Wilson and Cochrane with Brophy and O'Halloran on the bench.

The visitors got the game underway in their Black & Tan outfit and Morton were first to threaten running into the penalty box down the left side but a shrill whistle from the ref stopped play as Inverness were awarded a free kick. Early posturing and little fluidity saw play a bit disjointed, probably not helped by a lively surface that looked like it held a rock concert a day ago. The visitors were enjoying the bulk of the early possession but no goalmouth action until we were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute after Liam Sole was adjudged to have been fouled by Dean Black. Alfie Bavidge made no mistake from the spot. Morton were not out of this by any means and looked busy around the edge of our box on a couple of occasions without working the keeper. We offered them a glimmer of hope after losing the ball on the right before Ross Munro was brought into action, saving at the expense of a corner on the half hour from Callum Sandilands' curling shot. That encouraged the Ton and we had to defend a couple of awkward balls into the box as the hosts enjoyed their best spell of the game so far. A good bit of work on the left side set Chalmers up for a shot but he probably wished he hadn't bothered as he badly skied his awry effort. We did put the ball in the net after another sweeping move but Sole was flagged offside ten minutes before the break. Plenty of action around the home box but only the one goal to show for it.
HALF TIME: 0-1
Morton made two changes at the break with O'Toole and Murphy on for Black and McLuckie. A lot of the early play in the second half was being disrupted by the referee's whistle which ruined any hope of free flowing football. A Morton corner was headed high over at the back post by Kris Moore twelve minutes in. Everything looked rushed as we headed towards the hour mark in an untidy encounter. All we could muster was a deflected Ryan Duncan shot that was easily gathered by the keeper. Substitute O'toole was first into the book for a robust tackle on Graeme Shinnie. A Sandilands ball across the face of our six yard box went abegging and at the other end Kinnear gathered a low shot from Longstaff. Morton were pushing for a leveller over the final ten minutes and as the scrappy play continued Harry Cochrane fired over followed closely by an Iain Wilson effort. Hamzad Kargbo thought he was Alfie Stewart for a moment but his clipped effort drifted harmlessly wide. A drive into the box by Adam MacKinnon saw his parting shot run across the six yard box and out.
FULL TIME: 0-1
Plenty of effort from both teams on a difficult surface but it was Alfie Bavidge's penalty after quarter of an hour that made the difference.
