  1. Let's be honest - Rory was poor for us. He showed potential in the reserves and on a couple of occasions coming off the bench but he never really cut the mustard. His last appearence for us was against Morton in the league cup and he was abysmal that night, one of the worst performances I've seen from a striker. He is doing really well in Division Two and I am pleased for him as he always had a bit of potential and did get a lot of unwarrented stick. For those that want to sign him, how are St Mirren getting on with the players they have signed from the Second Division this season? How did Andy Barrowman do for us after a similar scoring record at the same level of football?

  2. I am sceptical about the idea that league reconstruction will revitalise Scottish football. I don't think there are hordes of potential supporters waiting for the SPL to be changed to include more First Division teams before coming to games. Scottish football actually holds up pretty well in terms of average attendances to similarly sized countries in Europe, even if you exclude the crowds from Ibrox and Parkhead. If you include these then Scotland has the highest average crowds outside of the Big Five leagues of England, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. We also do OK in terms of average crowds within our league - there are clubs in the Greek top league, for example, who get average crowds of less than 1000. The main issue with Scottish football is that the quality of play. There are two ways to improve this - better young players coming through and generate more revenue to buy better players. I don't think changing the structure of top flight football will influence better young players coming into the side and I am also pretty sceptical about the revenue generation of including more teams in the SPL. Adding Dunfermline and Falkirk, say, to the current SPL roster isn't going generate that much more revenue for the game. There will be two more bottom six sized clubs with a bit more cash to spend on players but in terms of generating more TV money or pushing up average crowds, I don't think it would have an impact. People aren't interested in watching Falkirk v St Mirren on ESPN or Dundee United v Dunfermline on Sky Sports - if they were then you can bet that the TV companies would have forced a change happen by now. I don't really have an answer as to what will improve Scottish football, increase revenue, increase crowds. I think that clubs like Caley have to be realistic about what we can achieve, I think that every fan and member of the BoD would agree with that. We aren't going to storm to the title but we can become a solid member of the SPL, challange for top half finishes and cups. What would revitalise Scottish football would be a club challenging the Old Firm - the last significant increases of average attendance in the SPL came when Hibs had Tony Mowbray as boss and made a run for third place and when Hearts finished second in the table in Romanov's first full season. Of course, Mad Vlad's reign has descended into farce, with unsustainable debts and Hibs have had to break up their side in order to balance the books. Also, the SPL potential for generating revenue took probably a fatal hit from a series of ludicrious decisions in terms of TV money in the last ten years - turning down a Sky deal in favour of setting up 'SPL TV' (thanks Roger Mitchell for that one) and signing up to a Setanta pie-in-the-sky deal when Sky had a good offer on the table. Probably the last chance for the SPL to really improve left the building with those mistakes. Clubs like Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee Utd are now too indebted to ever challenge the Old Firm, leaving us in a kind of limbo. Bit of a rambling post, I accidentally deleted what I was going to say earlier, doh.

  3. How old are you btw?? I don't think anyone takes them seriously. If you get this wound up over a virtual red dot on an internet site then people are going to just keep giving you more! And don't start crying about not using the board again, that is really pathetic. If you don't want to use it again then don't if you do then do.

  5. OK Dougal... your campaign to change the name hasn't been too successful with over 90% voting for the status quo, so it now seems that you now want to relocate instead. So, given that an extensive study was made of this by Bruce Hare in 1993 and the realistic options in and around Inverness were very limited indeed, where would you be planning to go? I note that you include the Bught, or another City Centre localtion among your suggestions in your poll, whilst almost in the same breath bemoaning traffic congestion at East Longman. Strewth! In the absence of a bypass which remains as remote a prospect as ever, how on earth do you propose to get even a bottom of the range crowd of 3500 from the Bught along Glenurquhart Road and many of them then over the Ness Bridge at 5 o'clock on a Saturday? Then think "Old Firm" and double that up to 7000. But, since you've raised the issue, how about also giving us an overview of how the ICT Trust would fund this, unless you reckon it can be done solely by selling on the remaining 83 years of the East Longman lease? Finally, could I unobtrusively ask if you have read "Against All Odds"? In particular the chapter entitled "Finding A Home" discusses stadium location issues in some depth and the book hopefully also sheds some light on why, for instance, the stadium design and club name are as they are.

  7. Can I ask in what way? Better coaching will improve the football, not playing against more teams.

  8. He was given a good run of games the season that Dargo and Wyness were both injured, i think it was 2007. He did not impress, it must have been a run of about 10 games. That had made up my mind about him after that. Even when we sent him out on loan to Peterhead he didn't impress and they cut his loan early i think. He was in need of a fresh start and he grabbed it with both hands at Brechin, well done to him. He will either get promoted with Brechin or earn himself a better move elsewhere. It will be intresting to see if he carries on his form in Division 1.

  9. I wouldn't shed any tears if reputation voting was scrapped. What on earth is wrong with responding with a typed message to any post you strongly agree or disagree with? Thinking about what you want to say, and how you are going to say it can be a very worthwhile exercise, and very beneficial to one's education. I've noticed over the years just how much certain posters have actually improved their writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, vocabulary, etc, just by submitting regular contributions to this forum. Posters like Miss ICT, Georgeious, Kingsmills, The Immortal Howden Ender and several others have actually managed to dramatically improve their communicative skills, by succeeding in an environment where our state education system clearly let them down badly. These posters owe CTO a huge debt of gratitude.

  10. Indeed, but unlikely to happen based on this interview from earlier this year, in which he said "there would be no point, for example, just moving to the lower end of the First Division" Anyway, Rory is doing a plumbing apprenticeship at the moment, and to give that up for full time football would be something of a wrench.

  11. The experience will be doing him no end of good, thats for sure, he is proving he can score goals but he was punted because he couldnt do the job at that time . I still feel he would struggle against SPL defenders, be interesting to see if Brechin get into the 1st Div how he gets on, maybe county will secure his services in january, they could do with him for sure.

  15. So it looks like the same thing as Shearer slagging off Pele the other week in the Sun. Just a stunt to plug his book and taking the most contravertial bits to get people to buy it.

  17. He got a hell of a lot of criticism for someone so young when he was here. This is where the reputation buttons would have become interesting, so we could see just how vocal the anti-vote was. He's doing brilliantly and I certainly wouldn't be against us taking another chance on him. Still a young lad remember.

  20. There's a surprise..... "Small" team doing better than expected and the Scottish gutter press start dragging up crap. Seems fairly obvious that this is nothing more than a bitter Drinkell making a few quid by (badly) trying to spin a non story. He wasn't deemed good enough, he asked the question and he didn't like the answer he got....dry your eyes!!!

  21. Having just watched the highlights it wasnt a free kick when Duff won the ball in his own half and Rooney wasnt offside and although Duncan clearly went for the penalty there clearly was some contact. It wasnt clear about the claimed Shinnie hand ball but only one Killie player shouted for it. Duff was giving Tokely pelters fer their goal and lets hope Johnny Hayes crosses himself when he scores at Castle Greyskull.

  23. I'd keep it. Too often, on things like P&B, those with the loudest voices aren't necessarily those that have the most reasonable views. I think this actually prevents bullying more than promotes it. Look how much taunting Renegade had to endure before the dots - yet now, he has a positive reputation. If someone is being overly critical, like they were of Nick Ross, there was little way of knowing if that was the majority view or not. Now, it's easier to see whether most think that criticism is justifiable or over the top. And if you're not interested (I would doubt anyone was seriously bothered) in what people think of your views and those of others, what on Earth are you doing on a forum?

  24. It always bugged me the amount of stick that could be dished out to that young lad, FROM HIS OWN SUPPORTERS. Even when he wasn't playing some of the boo boys were more than happy to dish out dog's abuse on here. The same thing happened up to a point with young Nick Ross whenever he appeared last season. Even when he scored the only goal of a game against Morton, he was criticised for lacking a Tokelyesque physique. Thankfully he now appears to have shut up most of his critics in the best way possible. There's just no pleasing some people.
