I see Willie Collum has had his knuckles rapped. He has a tendancy to control matches with his cards rather than common sense. A quiet word in an ear should be the starting point of control. He is very fit but doesn't seem to have a feel for the game, and as for the decisions it would appear his positioning is not what it should be. It can be a thankless task having done it myself, not to the level he has attained I might add, a quite word can save a lot of hassle during a game and build up a mutal relationship with the players makes the game better for all.
  3. Ach! Addendum:- absolutely. Actually, you guys are quite accurate and, additionally, app-friendly. Absentee-ism at this match will not be tolerated because it will be the antithesis of good form. Aye! C'mon. attend and help us to accrete more points. And, for good measure, work on your attention span which must not be allowed to slip. And, IHE, bring your pet Moose --in all his 7-point ANTLER glory. Good afternoon,
  4. I see you're in Thurso. Would you mind heading to the golf course to see if Mahonio's ok? Haven't heard from him in a while and I hope he hasn't been blown away!
  5. Well an incentive to turn up should be that if we win on Sat against DUtd then we could go 2nd with a win over st j or if Dundee beat the dons again we might even go top......after 23 games to be in either spot would be phenomenal. That's a reason to turn out at least

Whilst artificial surfaces provide a better playing surface, a poor playing surface has resulted in some of the most memorable moments in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PjZtz0JpV0 This is one of the great FA Cup moments and would never have happened on an artificial surface. Sadly Hereford utd have gone out of business this year but at least at least the game's administrators and the sharks that ruin some football clubs can never take away the memory of this from the folk of Hereford.

Womens world Cup here in Canada this year will be played on turf ... and is very controversial, to the extent that it has spawned a lawsuit citing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Funnily enough, not a single game will be played at the "national stadium" (Toronto FC's BMO Field) ... a natural grass pitch that used to be turf, and may eventually go back to being a hybrid (Desso Grassmaster). This is not because of any problems with the organisers wanting it all to be played on plastic, but because Toronto hosts the PanAM games at the same time so they did not submit a bid to the Canadian Soccer Association to be one of the host cities. There are 6 stadiums being used and all have artificial grass. 3 of the stadiums (Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa) are home to CFL teams (Canadian version of the NFL) and use Field Turf which is pretty much a necessity due to weather and the pounding the field takes. The stadium in Moncton is mainly a university athletic stadium and also uses Field Turf, whilst the 2 fields that normally play host to MLS teams in Vancouver and Montreal will use Polytan Liga Turf and Xtreme Turf respectively I have read quite a few articles (some linked below) but think this is the most balanced from a Canadian perspective: http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/08/22/why-the-worlds-best-female-soccer-players-should-accept-playing-on-fake-grass-at-the-world-cup/ Other articles http://globalnews.ca/news/1603131/fifa-officials-to-inspect-bc-place-turf-in-light-of-controversy/ http://globalnews.ca/news/1593031/players-file-lawsuit-in-canada-over-artificial-womens-world-cup-turf/ http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commentary/article/11593863/julie-foudy-talks-turf-fifa http://www2.tsn.ca/soccer/story/?id=461567 https://www.coworker.org/petitions/fifa-the-world-cup-should-be-played-on-natural-grass http://equalizersoccer.com/tag/2015-turf-war/

As an ex-ref in the Grampian region, albeit at very minor levels, we trained as all grades which included Grade 1. Referees here had regular meetings and all Association refs were eligible to attend. Meetings included all sorts of things, often reviews of controversial incidents in other nations leagues and a discussion on what the appropriate interpretation of the laws would be. It will come as no surprise that in a room full of refs, there were some who would red card an incident others would not even have called a foul! It led to interesting discussions, but the point was that the Grade 1s were our mentors in proper interpretation, so we could at least try to have a consistency in the individual game performance regardless of level. Behind that is the monitoring process. At my level it was infrequent, but at top level it is supposed to be every match. The observer should meet with the referee afterwards, review the key points, give an outline of their observation and clarify any points of difference. The purpose is to promote consistent application of the laws and to keep standards from slipping. You get to take on board what they say, or you run the risk of being reduced in Grade and have to work at getting back if you still wish to do so. Obviously the observer system is also meant to identify the young thrusters who are tagged as being potentials for the higher grade and encourage them to do so, replacing those who inevitably have to bow out when the time comes. It seems Collum has now had his collar felt and warning issued, so if he cannot get a grip on what he is doing then chances are he will be reduced in Grade and we will not see him ruin another SPFL game again.

It's great to see that the officials have taken action after a series of incompetent performances from Collum. He has, quite frankly, been atrocious and has been punished, but what of the clubs that had to put up with his inadequacies. Sorry seems to be the hardest word. Anyway, it's a start and might make others think harder about their decision making.

He has an unfortunate tendency to disrupt the flow of a game with excessive stoppages for soft free kicks, exacerbated by draconian use of cards. The old cliché, 'you can tell a good referee when you hardly even notice him' - very rarely applies to Mr Collum. That said, he had a decent game last time out at TCS.
  11. Campaign on twitter for ex player Chris Finnigan to get Gary Barlow to play at his wedding this July .Gary will play at a wedding whom he decides has had the best social media campaign #getgarytobeauly. Used to work with Chris after he got released and a more genuine guy you could not meet. He even borrowed the Nessie mascot costume to surprise my daughter on her 2nd birthday and arrived unannounced. I'm sure he would appreciate the support. He was never a regular, but was with ICT since youth. https://twitter.com/pressjournal/status/555383376862261249

most referees have their moments but Gollum is consistently bad. A good referee - at whatever level - does not need to control the game with cards. That's the mark of someone who feels inadequate or insecure and needs to compensate for that by dishing out yellows and reds. Its the refereeing equivalent of a steward who picks on folk and feels like a big man (or woman) to make up for their rejected police application form ! In both cases, neither should be anywhere near a football pitch !

There's actually a fair bit of difference between Killie's pitch and Hamiltons. The "grass" at Killie is slightly longer and if you were to close your eyes and walk across it then you'd swear you were walking on a natural grass surface. The artificial pitch at Killie is also rated for use by other sports (including rugby), which opens up another market to the stadium if we went that route. Personally, I think an artificial pitch could take ICTFC to another level on so many fronts.... Aside from not having the same hassles as exist at the moment with making sure the pitch is kept in order over the winter, you end up with a facility that could be used pretty much 24/7. This provides a new income stream, not just for use of the pitch, but opens up the potential to develop other facilities at the ground as the footfall increases. You also have the cost saving that comes from not needing a separate training facility or renting pitches for Youth games etc. Holding community kids training programmes etc at the stadium brings people in and increases the sense of ownership. As that develops then so does the sense of community.....it could actually prove to be the catalyst for bringing the city and football club closer and that could also help put a few more bums on seats for match days. Even with the best grass pitch in the world, you could never achieve the above. To me, installing a (good) artificial surface is a total no-brainer.

    Juanjo. That is all.
  17. I don't blame anyone for wanting to go, let's not lie.. there's many and far better things on offer than what we can provide. Clubs with bigger fanbases, better training facilities, more money, better location.. a Nandos - and so on. Inverness and our club are hardly the greatest treasure but we work with all we have. However, folk like Tansey and anyone else who's signed new contracts fairly recently, I appreciate greatly for choosing to stay where they are, immense dedication to our cause We know fine well we are always going to be in a hard place but slowly we're doing things to improve and get by. Especially managing to get into a scheme of offering contracts longer than a year has been a massive thing. And I don;t think for a second if they havn't been offered a contract as of yet then they won't at all. It's business and I'm positive there's a lot more thought into it than some people may or may not think, just slapping a salary on paper and wanting a 'Yay or Nae' Immense admiration though for most players, coming here in the first place and even more so if they choose to continue.
