I suspect that they will forfeit the three points. If so, quite an incentive for ourselves and Raith Rovers.

Worst that will happen is a warning and the game being replayed, given Leveins chums on the board. No real punishment... If it was us we'd be thrown out

Last time this happened the team got fined I do believe so wouldn't get your hopes up

There's a fair chance that one day, ICT might field an ineligible player. When it happens, a section of our support will be queuing up to post the likes of "laughing stock of Scottish football", "shambles", "heads must roll", "amateur", Highland league" etc, completely forgetting that this happens to someone every season, including clubs with far greater administrative resources than us. Just saying!

Likely to be a fine. Nobody ever made an admin error in their job? 

Bring on Raith Rovers and take care of our own fate.

So don’t know how SPFL can treat Hearts any different than what effectively is the same offence.

There isn't a perfect precedent for this. Albion Rovers were thrown out of the competition, but that was in a knockout tie rather than the group stage of a competition. Just over two years ago Dundee United did something similar in a league game against us where they won 3-2 - they were deducted three points, but we were not awarded them.

 

I think the most likely outcome is that either Hearts are deducted the points, or that Cove are awarded a walkover victory. I don't see Hearts being thrown out because they have three group games left - if nothing else, it would deny other clubs much needed cash from the matches (assuming gate money is split like in most cup competitions!).

 

Either of the above would be obviously to our advantage as, if we beat Raith, the only way a team could finish above us would be on goal difference. 

In thinking more about it it would seem the logical outcome would be to deduct the points from Hearts but not award Cove 3 points as its a league game effectively.

Wouldn’t Cove feel cheated?  Hearts did not have that player at their disposal but used him for 25 mins in a tight game.  Could Cove not realistically have drawn/got a bonus point  had Hearts had to field an inferior player on the pitch.  Surely Cove have to be given the replay or three points for there to be equity; that was their right and opportunity to get 1,2 or 3 points but was spoiled, sullied or distorted.  If it’s akin to being cheated out of a contractual obligation , a retrial/replay is needed with Hearts bearing full costs and more.

Agreed and that would also be a fair and proportionate response for what is effectively a mini league rather than a knock out situation at this stage.

I still think that our Board had something to do with it.

I don't know how Brian Rice is getting away without blame over this. 

Hearts failing to secure full points today against Raith Rovers puts the cat among the pigeons. Especially, if they forfeit the points for the Cove Rangers match.

Finding a way to criticise other fans over something that hasn't actually happened is probably a new level of condescension for this site.

I fancy our chaces at Tynecastle after watching Hearts today: they were woeful. I don't understand why Mulraney is starting for them.

 A professional football club  cannot make a mistake like this and get away with it. Nor should they.

It may be a diddy cup for them but for their (usually lower level) opponents it may be a crucial  blow to their future success  and inflow of money. And Hearts should have known better and made sure that  they showed an example of the necessity of a higher ranked club to lead by example. 

At worst, pretty sloppy.  Tar and feathering  indicated.?

I doubt that Hearts regard the League Cup as a 'Diddy' competition. Like all but one club in Scotland at the moment, it represents one of only two realistic opportunities they have to land silverware.
