  1. I payed my respects yesterday as i always do - by raising a dram to Willie McBride. In contrast to the tabloid driven worship of the "heroes who fight for our freedom" (and consequent support of those wars) that has characterised much of this past couple of weeks, the song pays tribute to the dead soldier but laments the futility of the war which killed him. The display by the Green Ultras may he have been crude, but i think it's been positive to have voices of dissent during a period that has increasingly become a commercialised "month-long drum-roll of support for current wars", as a group of veterans expressed it in a letter to the Guardian last week. The letter ends like this: "The public are being urged to wear a poppy in support of "our Heroes". There is nothing heroic about being blown up in a vehicle. There is nothing heroic about being shot in an ambush and there is nothing heroic about fighting in an unnecessary conflict. Remembrance should be marked with the sentiment "Never Again".

  4. With this team? Yes. I do believe we can. They were lucky to beat us at home, im fairly confident about going to parkhead. I was more woried about overcoming Hamilton...now thats out the way, onwards and upwards.

  5. That's inspired... and the East End of Glasgow is certainly a blasted heath, with more than a few weird sisters wandering around it.

  6. The only person talking sense on this thread. Wars are not computer games and should be remembered with sorrow and regret and the commitment to never let them happen again.

  7. OK folks. We have hidden three posts while the moderators discuss the content. Nothing wrong with the first of those, but for the integrity of the site can we stop making allegations against individuals. Can we make this clear once and for all. No persons have been convicted or charged with any offences, and any attempt by site users to defame any individual will result in an instant and permanent ban from this site. These are serious allegations and could result in prosecution of everybody concerned, including those making the allegations. Please think long and hard before posting such comments on these boards. We on this site can not tell people what to chant at football stadiums either, but it would be advisable to refrain from making public allegations in a public place.

  10. We really need the SPL reserve league reinstated to give players some match practice. If players are not getting any competetive games at all there is little incentive to stay. I am sure many would rather be playing reserve team football in the Championship than be in a SPL squad and getting no games at all. Its the same for all the teams, of course so we are not disadvantaged in that respect, but I can't see the current situation helps Scottish clubs to be competetive in Europe.

  11. Jings, this thread again. It is exactly what everyone is saying. At home the vocalists are spread about, the stewarding is bizarre (for 'home' stewards) and the watering hole too distant. Away you have, these days, a sensible place to congregate next to the ground with the opposition fans and a good deal of banter and alcohol, a compacted support that provides the team with a focus point...Eric, next time you score an important goal at Ibrox, the other corner, ok? THE OTHER CORNER! There must be a lot of pressure for these young guys. Even in front of 2019 (WTF?) supporters yesterday the pressure to perform must be fairly intense...and public. A couple of hundred adoring away supporters are bound to make you feel a bit more comfy than 3000 of your own kind ready to jump on your back at the first opportunity! And don't forget there are hundreds of us out here who are away day specialists because we don't live north of Aviemore. Never have. My grandmother was an Invernesian...so when Naelifts suggested we buy shares in 'this new SFL club' I thought, yep...let's do it. The 90s, Caley Inn, Innes, TCS...fantastic; away days - among the best days of my life. The players (and Terry and Mo) are simply responding to a lessening of pressure and an unapologetic worshipping. Wouldn't you perform better?

  17. Dornoch Caley, the wearing of poppies is in support of those who are prepared to sacrifice their lives in whatever cause our Government deems to be appropriate. In many ways the poppies are even more appropriate for soldiers who have lost their lives in some of the more recent conflicts because some of those who lost their lives probably did not support the wars themselves. They showed support for their country by doing what their democratically elected Government felt appropriate and put their duty to their country ahead of their own views. It is those who we remember by wearing the poppies who you can thank for giving you the freedom to fire off such an aggressive tirade. You may not agree with others in this thread but that is no reason to be so insulting to those who happen to hold a different point of view. Can I suggest an anger management course or maybe you should join the army? Have a red poppy.

  20. What a coincidence, both games being on a Tuesday, who would believe it. Seems you will all make it now then if the Scotland game is on another week altogether.

  21. I'm pretty certain the Scotland game is on the week before.

  22. Oh fudge, didn't realise that. There is a 99.9% chance the Scotland game will be on the telly, so may affect attendance somewhat Its not on the same night Scotland v Faroes 16th Nov...............................Legends 23rd Nov Oh sorry about that. Someone said that Scotland was playing that night and I believed them. I still don't think the turn out will be that good tbh. Know a fan who has already decided not to attened the game and I'm sure they'll be a few more.

Like i said previously i like to see women at the football and to be honest i know of one or two who are very knowledgeable about our glorious game There is a danger however if too many attend, what we don't want to create is a similar atmosphere too a Take That concert Slightly off topic I notice Inverness play in the top flight of the womens scottish football league are they connected in anyway to ICT? 25. I laugh when people on this forum call Old Firm fans backwards. Have a look at yourselves. Stupid ol' ********. The Green Brigade have made statement after Statement regarding the poppies yet why is it, it never gets released by the press? In short, they say people have FREEDOM to wear the poppy if they like. They have no problem if people want to wear one. But, a Club like Celtic who are supported by people from different faiths and countries should not be wearing a poppy on their top. You can all shove your poppy fascism up your arses tbh and say what you want. A lot of you say i talk pish, well, you go anywhere else in Scotland and i bet you lot will look the bunch of complete morons. Thinking that everyone must wear a poppy of support the poppy? Get a grip. Men who fought in the World Wars gave up their lives so we can choose to wear something if we want or not. I remember the men who died in WW1 and WW2 on rememberance sunday but i will not, and i refuse to remember those who died in wars such as Falklands, Iraq and N.I as they fought in wars that should never have come to pass. Starchief, if you bothered to stop being so fecking bias and ignorant you would realise that The Green Brigade have been against John Reid from the very beginning. Whos the real moron? They do not believe the poppy supports the Government. We know that they remember men who fought in wars that resulted in the death of innocent people. The same innocent people that relations support Celtic Football Club. Especially in regards to the Conflict in Northern Ireland. **** this forum. It's a pile of *****. If someone has a different point of view etc then they are shot down. Scotland is full of small minded idiots. Call me, The Green Brigade and Celtic fans what you want, the real small minded people are you lot. Shove your poppy fascism up your up-tight-arses.
