  1. No chance. It was a disgraceful challenge and clear sending off. He should be hammered for it.
  2. He jumped into the tackle showing excessive force and with both feet off the ground was not in a position to control himself. Text book red card and correct decision by ref.
  3. sorry I'm with the ref here. I was there and everyone gasped at that challenge. Red all day long for me and those around me. Playwise we were much improved yesterday and the players worked so hard to get what would have been a deserved win. Just switched off unfortunately at the death. Certainly not cut adrift. We do, however, need a goal scorer and fast!
  4. Having just seen it again on Goals on Sunday, the Mutombo challenge was every bit as dreadful as it looked at the time. I don't think anyone in the away support could quite believe it, as it was so blatant and unnecessary: almost as jaw-dropping as Devine's handball, which looked as though he'd forgotten where he was and thought he was playing volleyball. I thought Mutombo had a bad game throughout, actually - some bad first touches, poor linking and too many aimless runs. Lopez used the ball better than on some previous occasions when I've seen him, but he still doesn't really look like a striker, more a number 10. Dundee supporters over on P&B are being highly critical of what they saw as a deliberate strategy to hack and bully their players out of the game. I didn't really see it like that (Mutombo's demolition of Ross apart), but there were a few clumsy challenges which looked like the result of players low in confidence trying not to lose control of the midfield. Overall, I thought we did reasonably well for 70 minutes or so, with Christie again our most creative influence and Williams showing up well again at left back, but we failed to kill off the game or take the sting out of Dundee - I said to either RiG or Red Card about 15 minutes from the end that we should be putting Wedderburn on for Mutombo to shore up the midfield, but when he did come on, Vigurs came off, which seemed counter-intuitive, as by that stage we looked like were only interested in defending. Nevertheless, we probably should have seen the game out, but given that we got away with Devine's handball thanks to Fon Williams, we can't be too unhappy with a point. I do think it will be a long and scrappy season though - I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see this team clicking and going on a run of good results, especially with the injuries we have.

Just read in the Sunday post that Celtic have made a£500k offer for Charlie Christie. It goes on to say he is a young player with a bright future. That would take us up to a million quid if Ryan signs as well.
  6. Have to agree with that one. Probably a sentimental decision from Butcher to give his buddy one last big deal after all their years working together. Richie delivered for Butcher, and Butcher delivered for Richie. Seems fair enough, although maybe not such good business from the club's perspective! To be fair, he certainly didn't look 'past it' before his injury, so he might still come back into the team and make a significant contribution. Since this thread is about looking on the bright side - we've had a terrible start but we aren't isolated at the bottom. In fact, one win would have us knocking on the door of the top 6. We've also now seen enough of the SPL to discern that most of the other teams aren't any better than us. actually Bucher had left the building when Foran got his contract. In fact I think it was also signed before Yogi arrived! You beat me to it. I thought the deal was to stop Richie following Mr T to Hibs. I'm pretty sure that Yogi mentioned when he came in that Richie was going to be his successor.
  7. Ross County v Inverness CT - Global Energy Stadium, 6pm this tuesday.
  8. The only plus side about Mutombo's challenge, was that we won't have to see him for a while. A dreadful challenge to sum up a dreadful game. I could see him giving the eyes to some of the fans giving him grief as he went off. Can't say I had any sympathy for him though. A stupid thing to do. What I couldn't understand was why he lasted so long. I could understand Wedderburn coming on for a tiring Vigurs, but I couldn't understand we weren't taking Mutombo off for Foran (or even Horner or Polworth), just to see out the game and run down the clock, while also bringing someone on who could hold up for the ball. The way Mutombo was holding the ball, you'd think it was a bar of soap! As others have said, I'm really liking Williams at left back. The only thing he needs to work on a wee bit I'd say, is his crossing into the box. Reminds me a bit of Richard Hastings in that it's always straight at the keeper. Who was the suited up guy in our dugout by the way? Didn't recognise him.
  9. David Raven to the rescue yet again ......well done David !!!!!! Promising signs from team but as happens often just can't keep things tight enough to final whistle. The saddest sight was seeing Nick Ross getting his feet taken from him ,which could have been very serious . We are not a team to use dirty tactics and Nick is one of the nicest natured players we have had . He looked unscathed so I hope no damage done and hope we don't see a repeat of this .It was sickening !!!!

That Alex O'Henley from BBC Alba has just tweeted that Anthony Stokes coming here on loan could be part of the Christie to Celtic deal if it goes through.
  12. That's not speculation...that's calculated risk/decision making and I agree with the theory of what you say. What is being advocated by HC is that the club spend money they don't have and/or increase annual budgets on the basis of one off windfalls.....something that we, as fans, have been critical of in the past when it looked like the club may be following such a course of action (e.g. Niculae). Not what I said at all.
  13. Just seen the highlights on BBC alba mutombos tackle was absolutely disgusting and his reaction afterwords was equally disgusting. Pushing away his teammate and just strutting off like a child being sent to his bedroom. I sincerely hope he never plays another game for us because he's useless
  14. If the 'suited guy' was in the dugout, then he'll probably be a friend of Yogi, just up visiting.
  15. yeah i know he has gone to midden, just saying would have been good for us to have tried to get him.

He is also very young and by no means a seasoned p[layer. So can we actually imagine that Celtic are so bereft of top class players that they will immediately shove him into the first team? More likely that he will be blooded in the second team and /or sitting on the bench for the most part. The Tulloch Stadium is a far cry from Celtic park where thousands od supporters will give him a break for about 6 weeks, tops, before coming down on the club like a ton of bricks if he does not live up to the hype.. That is a very large stage and the punters will give him his chance until they feel he has been thrown into the first team too soon. Then what? His dad is correct in advising him to stay with Caley Thistle for the time being and after another couple of years he should be worth a lot more money to the club if they get further bids. Right now it does appear as if the club is not not exactly on the rocks financially-speaking, so what's the big rush? Especially when his staying is more likely to help the team than the trade.
  17. I think people are panicking too early. I'm far from a happy clapper, and although I understand the frustration, things are not as bad as being portrayed. Barring two stupid last minute equalisers, our very patched up side which started the season would have us sitting outside the top six only on goal difference. The margins in this league are very small, as outside of Celtic and Aberdeen(and arguably Hearts) there is absolutely nothing between the rest of the sides. If we can bring in a striker, get the likes of Meekings, Vincent and Roberts(who I'm really excited by) back as soon as possible, and stop the bombshell that is Carl Tremarco self destructing then we will be absolutely fine. Keep the faith guys, and the #TogetherNess that makes our club so special
  18. A friend who is a Dundee Utd fan was at Ross County today. He had not been keen on the McKay signing but has completely changed his tune. Despite not scoring he felt McKay was their " diamond in the rough" and wished they'd had him earlier. He thinks he'd have made the difference in narrow games where they've dropped points before today (eg Dundee derby). Gutting given he was one of our own, had become available and a position we are very sadly lacking in now.
  19. Mutombo's dismissal sounds utterly stupid but on the plus side it does perhaps indicate a level of passion. Mutombo's suspension might also force the manager in giving some game time to one of the youngsters. I recall a few years ago when Butcher consistently preferred Barrowman to Rooney. Barrowman was injured and Rooney had his chance. The rest is history.

Not much to talk about really until we find out who's interested and what's on the table. Ryan Christie has a great career ahead of him. Who ever buys him will have a great player and will make a good profit if they choose to sell him on. Sounds like a good investment to me. 500k sounds a little too cheap at the minute regarding the future profit involved and coming from a club the size of Inverness they don't have to break the bank to pay his wage. Sounds like a very good investment.

Spot on - an offer well below the mark. First they blow the CL spot and now they look to bolster their squad on the cheap. A sell on clause is a must wherever the young lad goes. Maybe it's time we got a car dealer or the like on the board to assist with our transfer dealings ;-)

500k!!! What a disrespectful offer to both the club and the player. If Swansea have paid 700k for the lad from Falkirk then surely Ryan is worth over the million mark. I would rather see him go for nothing in the summer than be walked all over by the bullies of Scottish football!! Get a grip Celtic
  23. The whole striker situation is rather concerning. We lost Billy in January and knew we would be losing Marley at the end of last season, so there has been plenty of time to seek replacements. A few weeks ago Yogi said that by having signed Lopez and Mutombo our signings for front men was completed. No sooner was he saying that than suddenly we are in panic mode begging the Chairman to release funding to sign a much needed striker. The transfer window will be shutting soon and whilst teams around us seem to be able to make decent signings, we are still searching. I dread to think what this must be doing to the confidence of the strikers he has signed. We can talk about our very serious injury crisis but the injury crisis actually has relatively little bearing on our failure to score goals. Yogi said that Mutombo could play anywhere along the front line, so presumably he considers him as a striker when need be: he is not injured. Lopez may have picked up a slight injury against Hamilton but nothing that will keep him out for long, and Ferguson and Sutherland were on the bench at the weekend and so were presumably fit. So why the last minute panic to sign a striker? The fact is that Yogi has signed Lopez and Mutombo this season and has given contracts to the youngsters but yet seems to have no real faith in them. Needing to chase the game against Hamilton and not putting either of the youngsters on when Lopez had to come off seems, on the face of it, to be an extraordinary statement of lack of confidence in them. If Yogi now feels the players he has signed are not good enough then one has to question why he signed them.

Just curious whether people think the player gets a say in all of this ... Plenty of folk saying sign him up now, or sell him on for a huge fee, or the board should resign if they cant get him to re-sign etc. As far as I know, Ryan does get a say in all of this and we cannot force him to sign up for longer, nor can we force him to accept a transfer (although he likely would given it would be a bigger team and wage). The club will do what they can to keep him for as long as they can, but they will not stand in the way of his progress. The Christie family have been, and I think always will be, very loyal to ICTFC so as and when Ryan goes, and he WILL go (onwards and upwards) I believe everyone will try to make it at a time that benefits everyone, or at least doesn't screw things up for everyone.
