  1. Very strange that so many players seemed to get injured during the 3 week winter shutdown. Not for the first time, do we need to ask questions about our training regime?
  2. Depends on your definition of "missed". I reckon he had 6 chances: 1 scored, 1 disallowed (wrongly IMO), 1 saved well, 1 off the bar, 1 shot blocked, 1 sitter wide. How many chances did his strike partner have and how many did he score? Yes, Doumbouya could have had a hat trick, but he certainly gets himself in the right areas and he won us the game.
  3. Disagree with some of the posts above - we bossed long spells in the game and could have won by a few. Elgin only had very few chances...although they v nearly equalised at the death! Cole was absolutely outstanding today - everything dangerous went through him and he also did defensive duties. Defence was solid - Polworth did OK in an unfamiliar position, but got megged a couple of times. Vigurs was frustrating as ever: Guilty for the goal, great free kick off the bar, decent spells and lazy spells. Boden is nowhere near it - even against lower league opposition, he looked dreadful. Anier shoild have started. Banana skin avoided!
  4. Vigurs badly at fault for being dispossessed while doddling on edge of box just before free kick. From where I was standing, the Elgin goal looked like another really embarassing flap from OFW in missing weak free kick at near post (very like the lost goal to Hamilton a few weeks back). He can be a decent shot stopper in open play but seems so vulnerable at free kicks. We were fairly disjointed. Cole showed good skills at points and became the target for regular cross field long balls. Unlucky with chances missed (woodwork for Doumbouya header, Vigurs free kick). Elgin tired in the 2nd half (thankfully). We seemed scared of shooting on a number of occasions. Glad to see two upfront though and also pleased that Anier came on for Boden near the end (should have been earlier). He looked quite sharp. I think he should start with Doumbouya instead of Boden (who was disappointing today). Polworth playing at right back was caught out a few times today. Obviously not his position and the fans let him know but I was disappointed to hear swear back at the fans ... surely the cardinal sin for any player. Anyway we squeezed through and it's all about the result in the cup. Let's build on this.
  5. A video clip of the Elgin goal by a "Northern Scot" Elgin press reporter. Described as fabulous free kick by BBC report. I beg to differ. Howler ...
  6. Anyone know why we had several first team guys missing today - Horner, Draper, Meekings, King, Mulraney and Fisher? Surely they can't all we injured after a 3 week break?
  7. Cheers IBM, that'll teach me to read the reports more closely - like Scarlet did
  8. I put Llarnell Cole 6 pts outstanding motm by a country mile showed real class great piece of business keeping him till end of season 3 pts Carlos Tremarco great energy and drive. Player of the season so far 1 pt Doumbaya scored the goal that kept us in the cup.
  9. Anyone know what the size of the crowd was? Soccerbase haven't published it yet...

  20. I have to say I am somewhat rusty at all of this !!! I dont think I have done a match preview or report for several years ! TM4TJ continues to do a stellar job motivating the volunteer reporters to create our previews, match reports and other content so when he ups sticks and heads offline for a month its a bit of a culture shock to find yourself in at the deep end again. But here goes ... Coming into this match we dont have our problems to seek ! No wins in 10 games since October 26th and only one win in the last 14 games. November and December saw us grab just two points against Hamilton and Kilmarnock and we rounded out the year with three straight losses to Rangers, Motherwell, and then the mob from over the bridge on Hogmanay. Here's hoping 2017 brings something better. Elgin on the other hand are faring a bit better. They sit 3rd in Scottish League2 after 20 games and former Caley Thistle youngster Shane Sutherland tops the league scoring charts with 15 for the season so far. They have played 3 games already in 2017 with a 2-2 draw against Forfar and 3 goal outings in the 3-0 win over Montrose and 3-2 game versus Annan. The only meeting between the sides - other than friendlies over the years - was a 4th round Scottish Cup tie at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium back in January 2011. Despite controlling things from start to finish, Caley Thistle made very heavy weather of most scoring attempts with the goals not coming until injury time in the second half when Dani Sanchez (92) and Adam Rooney (94) netted for the home side. Only Ryan Esson remains as part of the current ICT playing squad from that day although Richie Foran is now manager and Shane Sutherland who came on in the second half for Eric Odhiambo is of course now playing for the Elgin side ! There's a few survivors from the Elgin side from that day too, such as Jamie Duff and Brian Cameron. Since the Hogmanay defeat, Richie Foran has made 2 new signings and also extended the contracts of David Raven and Larnell Cole (loan). Henri Anier is only 26 - but for some reason I thought he was older when reading his career bio - and has previously featured for Motherwell, Dundee Utd and Hibs in the Scottish league as well as clubs in Estonia, Norway, Germany and most recently Kalmar in Sweden. He has 34 caps for Estonia. At the other end of the spectrum, Dean Ebbe has signed from Bluebell United, an amateur club in the Leinster Senior League in Ireland. Personally I see parallels with Dougie Imrie here who had impressed in the juniors at Lanark and worked his way to ICT via Clyde. Imrie was pretty decent for us and still plys his trade in the premiership with Hamilton so it can be done, lets just hope Richie picked a good 'un. Richie was quoted this week as saying Dean is ready to play but Henri may not be risked as his last game was in October. I think we may see Ebbe on from the start with Anier replacing him in the second half. With the winter break for the premiership, there is little team news available as yet, but it is expected that Raven, Horner and MacNaughton are all still out. We will update this list as and when more info is available. Travelling to the game ? Additional train services will be in operation for this match. The outbound train will depart from Inverness at 13:35, arriving in Elgin at 14:20. The return train will depart Elgin at 17:27, arriving back in Inverness at 18:14. No alcohol will be permitted on these trains or on the 18:57 Elgin - Inverness service. In the event of a draw, postponement or abandonment of the original fixture the match will be replayed/take place on the evening of Tuesday 24th January.

  25. So what happens when you take the worst ICT side ever and then remove the two best players? We're about to find out!
  26. Can't agree with previous post. Doumbaya may have scored, but guilty of missing 2 gilt edged chances prior to scoring. He was ineffective and any headers he wins, he has no control or no idea where ball is going. Boden held up ball well IMO and brought others into game, but he provided little in way of goal threat. Overall I was disappointed in the performance, and didn't see any reason to be optimistic for the coming weeks. On another note, the young lads can provide fantastic vocal backing for the team and am generally all for them, but please stop with the flares, and the need to run 50 yards to a segregation fence for a bit of posturing. We as a club are better than that and don't need that kind of behaviour.

No worries there then I thought defence and midfield were immense today.
