  1. Awfergodsake IHE, can you not accept that you've got old along with the rest of us and the 70s were a very long time ago now?

  2. Ross County are performing well in the cups and have a fantastic draw in the last 16 at home to Linlithgow Rose. And, obviously it's a big day for County this weekend with Celtic at Hampden, but they're 'going well' in the league, too. Plus, on a lesser scale, and probably overlooked by many, they've progressed to the Scottish Youth Cup Semi-Finals - a tournament, traditionally the preserve of the 'Old Firm' (both of whom are already out this season!) They're certainly doing something right, over-the-bridge....even it is through Uncle Roy's chequebook! However, the following table suggests that County are still very much 'In Our Shadows'! They've never managed to do the clean-sweep on us - i.e. bettering us in all three competitions in the same season - although, we've done it to them on a number of occasions! The Challenge Cup is excluded as we weren't always competing in it at the same time. There's significant danger ahead - County could do the Highland Treble!

  3. "Show their worth"? Does that include the oldies who, while continuing in their establishment jobs, encourage the youth to screw their futures for an hour of infamy without a valid cause?

  4. Well done statmeister. We've reached the last eight 9 times in our short history, and obviously 3 of those led to a semi, one to a semi replay, and one to a final. I've still got two memories that really rankle even years later. In 2007 we lost 2-1 to Celtic after leading for most of the game right up to the 90th minute. We weren't even under pressure as you'd expect in a Celtic game. Sickener for everybody, a long trudge back to a very subdued Innes Bar that day. 2006, Liam Fox had a one-on-one to put us 3-1 up with only minutes to go against Partick. He missed, they went up the park and Paul Ritchie won a penalty which made it 2-2. Dominated possession in the replay but a bit like Stirling the other week, toothless. Lost out with some of the weakest penalties I've ever witnessed. Hearts beat Gretna in the final after Clyde had put Celtic out. The Cup was there for the taking.

  5. The pitch would probably have survived heavy rain before the SPL forced us to install USH and thus ruin the drainage.

  6. Probably why they're called Ass refs!

  7. With our Premiership refs getting paid more than some of the full time professionals they are refereeing for what is essentially a part time hobby I really don't see what they have to complain about. If they are really that sensitive to criticism then maybe the should find another hobby, knitting or origami perhaps...

  10. the club are guaranteed over 2500 full paying Aberdeen fans alone plus loads more full paying fans for the home end we had 6400 for the last home game. That would absolutely cripple the club getting Aberdonians to pay what they can. For a smaller match you can even take a small loss IF it genuinely encourages more to frequently attend in the future. No point what so ever dropping prices for a well supported game.

  11. I hope that Yogi is mature enough not to victimise any players who express a legitimate contrary view. After all, for better or worse, he is the one who first aired what should have remained an internal issue in public.

  12. Ach, who cares. After a season like last year, going to Hampden twice and winning twice, finishing 3rd in the league and a never to be forgotten trip to Bucharest as a bonus, this year was always going to be an anticlimax. Let uncle Roy's plaything have a bit of the limelight for a change. They'll need their shades on though after so long in the shadows p.s. Will McIntyre be the first C(o)unty manager to move on to bigger things rather than get the boot?

  13. ...but we didn't and it isn't. We are now facing the very real possibility that County could finish above us in the league and progress further than us in both cup competitions. Hopefully that dreadful prospect will motivate the manager and the team to play routinely with the purpose and intensity shown in that last 20 minutes. In the meantime, I am in the "good luck against Celtic but may you get thoroughly gubbed in the final" camp.

  15. I'm guessing it's maybe more hope than expectation or excitement. There has been a lot of pretty tepid football recently from the players we do have available, and people are probably just hoping that Roberts might offer something different from, say, Vigurs. From what I know of him, he can play wide, which is something we've been missing for a lot of the season and, although it was admittedly against much more limited opposition, he scored a lot and showed up well in pre-season, which has probably added to people's hope that he could be a useful player for us. It may be, as bdu98196 says, that he simply hasn't done enough in training to warrant a start in Yogi's eyes, but I can understand why so many people, me among them, wish he was given a bit more of an opportunity.

  16. Like mutumbo he has a almost cult following on here where if you say the slightest negative comment you get hi with the reds. Roberts has been injured a long period but if he was that good and rated by yogi im sure he would start or get more game time afterall look at warren he got thrown back in very quickly before he was even 100% cos hes a match winber and game changer and i bet there are some others in that situation or close to being thought that way.

  17. Except it's not the league who have cited the club, it's the SFA as they deal with these matters when it's the Scottish Cup.

  18. In my view, CJT and Ross County have acted prematurely by supporting any and all sanctions (as they seem to in the joint statement that prompted this thread) and a great deal of the criticism levelled in this forum is little more than dressed up prejudice regarding young people. Sentiments that have gone without comment, except from Renegade, such as “at least they are at the head of the queue when collecting Darwin awards” are as humourless as they are tasteless. For those of you unaware, the sentiment expressed is that at least these people will kill themselves sooner than most. Nutty and discredited indeed. Scottish football supporters are already subject to surveillance from several sources and there is legitimate concern that they are being treated in a potentially criminalising way that non-football attending citizens are not. Clubs use CCTV to monitor crowds from a control room at every ground and have the necessary mugshots of persons banned to hand. The operators are in radio contact with stewards and police if their intervention is necessary. FoCUS, the national football intelligence unit, can be regularly seen filming fans. It is funded by Scottish Government to obtain the type of intelligence that the SFA appear to be saying will cost a further £4 million to refine and implement. To what end? Looking for smoke bombs? The people being subject to this are customers, not potential law-breakers. It is a palpable waste of money when the means to control crowds are already in place and it will do nothing to address the oft observed reluctance of stewards and police to intervene, especially when large travelling crowds are in attendance and “pyro” becomes more likely to be used. What will happen is that someone, more readily identifiable from a smaller support, will be chosen as an example. That puts ours and County’s fans at greater risk of prosecution than, say, those supporting a Glasgow team (who actually have a history of using flares) and that’s not justice. What is clear is that the use of these things is something that some younger supporters (customers like all of us) see as either a minor issue at football, or as something that they actually want. Contrary to what has been said, there is a place for these people in football. Why? For years, the media has lauded the “atmosphere” at (for instance) Bundesliga grounds as laudable, desirable and something to be aspired to and that appears to be what these kids have bought into. Nothing more. BT Sport, for instance, have published their 10 best “tifo’s” (fan displays). So have the Guardian. The Daily Record thought CSKA Sofia fans “astonishing” and awarded them a “gold star” for their star wars display whilst deploring anything similar in Scotland. The use of “pyro” is integral to these displays, so it gets copied and the media reinforce that by their double standards in reporting the issue. So kids keep doing it. It’s nothing more sinister, irresponsible or “stupid” than that. I’d better make it clear now that I personally don’t want to see “pyro” at our games. I don’t want to watch clouds of smoke, I want to watch the game. I certainly don’t want to watch younger fans get themselves into conflict and criminalise themselves. Above all I don’t want people to get hurt. What needs to happen is behavioural change by peer pressure from fans organisations to stop our fans from using smoke bombs. This will only be done by engaging, not ostracising them. If people don’t change, there’s a law in place for the authorities to use and it must not be broken. Let’s just not get carried away.

  19. Yes I'm pretty sure Don said the same about both clubs a while back. Not wanting to miss out on a bargain I left my season ticked book at home and paid a fiver to get in.

  21. Indeed - a larger and more loyal fan base despite the tens of thousands who have been pouring into Dougal's blue phonebox (Tardis?) on Telford Street for the last 20 odd years. And irrespective of how monstrous or otherwise you meant to make your post, I think it's a very good one and bang on the money in very many respects.

  22. Just change league for sfa then and the point is exactly the same. Cjt aren't protecting the club from some mythical points deduction or expulsion from the cup. They are self promoting and attention seeking and actively working against the fans they pretend to represent. It is the job of the police to go after people with smoke bombs if they so choose.

    • Montrose 0-0 Inverness CT - Play Off 1st Leg
      FULL TIME: 0-0

All to play for on Saturday, but don't hold your breath...

However, if we continue like this, it will be our final game this season.

Best performer for us was Samson Lawal, the only bright spark on the field.

Alloa 2-2 Hamilton was the other semi-final score tonight. On this evidence, I doubt either side will be quaking in their boots.

    • Inverness CT 3-1 Morton - Report
It was a lovely evening for a game of football, what could possibly go wrong? Well, what did go wrong was Queen's Park beat an understrength Airdrie 2-0 at Hampden, therefore despite beating Morton 3-1, Inverness head for the play-offs. Morgan Boyes opened the scoring with a thumping volley after half an hour. Kirk Broadfoot benefited from slack defending to level before the break then proceeded to earn the wrath of the home support with an embarrassing celebration in front of the North Stand. Cammy Harper relieved Billy Mckay of penalty kick duties and duly slotted home from the spot ten minutes after the break. The scoring was completed just after the hour when Sean McAllister drilled home into the bottom corner. Robbie Muirhead had been sent off for simulation then taking a wee fit to himself and was promptly sent off after 58 minutes just after Harper had knocked in his penalty kick, probably aggrieved that he never earned a spot kick for his dramatic dive.

Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D

    • Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Out of our hands now: It ended in disappointment for the 319 visiting fans with news that Queens Park had hammered Arbroath 0-5. To rub salt into the wounds, Sheridan and Welsh were amongst the scorers. It's out of our hands now, but it's a must win next Friday and hope Queens Park falter.  Inverness play Morton and Queens play Airdrie. A draw might be enough, but it's a long shot.

I'm not convinced that Billy Mckay was the right man to be taking that penalty, his second failure from the spot in successive games against the Pars.

    • Dunfermline Ath -V- Inverness CT - Preview
Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.
