That is exactly everything that's wrong with modern football, I'm all for some protection to ensure the players are not ripped off, exploited and remunerated fairly, but they should be involved or leading the discussions with the agent as a 3rd party IMO, not the primary party. Here we have a player keen to stay but that hinges on T&C's being sorted out by agents and club representatives, which if an agent its beneficial to drag this out as long as possible in order to keep the door open for counter offers. So perhaps all the fan criticism directed at the club and board is not all fair as their is a significantly influential additional party which has a different agenda to the club and player in many cases.

Lets hope this gets resolved soon.

Personally I think agents are a real cancer in the modern game.  But having said that, there should be nothing to stop the club informing the player that they want to keep him, that an offer has been made and that there is a deadline for the completion of any negotiation over terms.  It would then be for the player to instruct his agent to negotiate within those parameters, to keep the player informed of progress and to consult with the player over relevant detail.

I appreciate agents will want to drag negotiations out but negotiations will only drag on if both sides allow them to.  The club needs players signed up and if a preferred player does not sign then they need to open talks with someone else.  The longer "negotiations" continue, the weaker the club's position become as other available players get signed up elsewhere.  If the club was to adopt a no nonsense policy of setting deadlines and sticking to them, then that would concentrate the minds of players and their agents.  After the deadline, there would be no further negotiation but the offer could remain on the table until an alternative signing has been made, at which time the offer would be withdrawn.

100% agree and in most business there is always a deadline and take it or leave it date. However the criticism of the board on here does not indicate that ICT taking a hard stance would go down well with a lot of fans, many believing that the club don't do enough as it is. If it became known as a club we were 'letting' key players leave without continually offering deals and discussions up until expiry of contract many would cite that the board just aren't trying and they both they and the manager should go etc.

Update:
Since the last list, I've noticed that U20 player Chris Blackett is on loan at Forres Mechanics.
And today, it appears that there's to be no contract extension for David Raven. Not confirmed officially, but there are quotes attributed to Raven - so I'm going with it. Would be delighted to edit his contract status here, if anything changes - but not holding my breath.

It is terrifying that, as yet none of the "six or seven" players that were allegedly offered contracts in the past couple of months - and have since been given ultimatums by Yogi -  have signed. Polworth was allegedly close, but still not signed. Is there a fundamental issue here? Is Yogi not as popular to work with as he seems to think? Has the Chairman tightened the purse strings to the extent that it is strangling the club?

We currently only have 7 players for next season FFS! Of those, one is the goalie coach, one is permanently crocked and another is quite likely to be off to Aberdeen! The U20s that we might have hoped to step up have been sent out on loan and no news on any of them being signed up either? ARMAGEDDON!

7 players signed up for next season including Esson & Foran what is going on. How can they expect to market Season tickets on the back of that.

Something is seriously wrong at the club when you have only 5 first team regulars guaranteed to turn up for pre-season training which is probably less than 8 weeks away.

I've said it before and things still haven't changed - SPFL Team with NO long term foundation!

All we hear from yogi is how hard it is to sign players and how low our budget is, lets hope this isnt a sign of all we can afford. I still expect yogi signings of vigurs, wedderburn, horner, mutumbo maybe even hughes and fisher to stay - none have been consitently high performers and might see staying as the best option for them. Whether thats best for the club to develop or maintain the status quo im not sure or excited about it.

This is yet another shambles from the club. Yogi said the day before or day after hearts game that Monday passed was the deadline for players to re-sign and now it's Friday...nothing's happened! Polworths deal was supposed to be competed last week and it hasn't. It's seems the club has been bullied into waiting for players as they've become desperate for them to resign.

Then of course there is the story that the club are going to release David Raven...one of if not the best right back we've had to date and it's not like he's passed it. And he's one that wanted to sign, seems that the club officials have totally lost the plot this time.

If we can keep Vigurs and maybe Mutombo, but let the rest go.

Totally agree.

I would really like to know who is doing the negotiating - is it JH or Cameron?

Very good news indeed now a two or three year deal for David Raven please.

http://ictfc.com/news/team-news/1745-board-update-for-fans

Good to see the board realising a statement on incoming players, looking forward to hearing the players we have signed on pre-contracts. This is what the fans have been looking for rather than being kept in the dark.

Brilliant news on Polworth, with him, Tansey and Draper all signed up for next season this gives us a great foundation to build on and if we invest in some good attacking players, we can look forward to having a better playing squad than this season and hopefully a more successful one.

Encouraging statement. Intrigued about the likely contract offers and signings.

Hopefully we identify a good striker.

Looks like Fon Williams is being preferred to Brill.

A monthly news update like this would go a long way to get the fans behind the club rather than always suspecting the worst . Silence always results in suspicion yet we hear some real potential progress with this statement .

Well done to the Board for issuing a really informative statement.  Not only is it informative, it contains a number of encouraging bits of news.  :clapoverhead:

That is indeed an articulate, informative, realistic and encouraging statement.

After all the incoherent, negative and somewhat inconsistent 'statements' from the manager it is refreshing. Perhaps he would be better served by attempting to manage the team and leave such public utterances in future to others...

Good news Polly!!! :ictscarf:he's one of our own! :ictscarf:

And finally some communication from the board - tells us enough to keep us happy without saying so much that they give away targets etc to other clubs.

Unfortunate that nothing mentioned regarding the future of the Rave...is he really going to go.....?!

This statement from the board is, to me, confirmation that the discussions that we take part in on CaleyThistleOnline are being witnessed and considered by the board and therefore our opinions are valued. Rather than a 'them and us' type of club, we belong to one where we all have roles to fulfil and without all the different groups considering each other, we would not have ICTFC. Well done to the board. Thank you for listening. (Now if you could you just find a contract for David Raven, I'll buy the cakes for your next board room meeting?).
