Dundee @ the Hedge

Dundee at The Hedge

We travel not to Dundee, but Brechin to face the Dark Blues in our final Group D game with little to no hope of progressing. Dens Park is still recovering from closed season work and the tie will be held at Glebe Park, Brechin. It's been a sombre week amongst our fanbase with the sad passing of Johndo Mackenzie, or as we know him on here, The Immortal Howden Ender. Tributes to Johndo can be read on the forum by clicking on the link below.

News of investment came through this afternoon but it's too early to decide if this will be a sustainable solution for the Caley Jags. You can read the official statement from the club and our thoughts on the CTO forum by clicking the links below. We will post more on this subject as the investment story gathers pace.

ImageOur opponents, Dundee, had this squad on duty on Tuesday night against Annan Athletic. Dundee eventually won 3-1 with a couple of late goals to see off Annan. Simon Murray opened the scoring after half an hour but Annan levelled less than ten Imageminutes later. Murray got his second with five minutes remaing and Seb Palmer-Houlden sealed the win in the 90th minute. Dundee top Group D table having thumped Bonnyrigg Rose 1-7 before easing to a 2-0 away win over Arbroath. It would be nothing short of miraculous should we qualify for the knock-out stages, although that might not be enough given our Head 2 Head defeat to Annan.

Duncan Ferguson talking ahead of the Dundee game

Last time out saw us lose a penaly shoot-out to Arbroath but football took a back seat that night as news of Johndo's departure filtered through on that day. RIP my friend, you will be missed by all who crossed your path and I will miss your colourful match reports when you offered them on away visits to far flung places.

Who remembers this one at Killie with the cheerleader making an appearance at 1:40...

I was kicking a ball around with grandchildren yesterday.  I'm 70 and the grandson is 7 and I reckon we both showed more ability than Ferguson junior.  Here's a thought.  Get us both signed up and we

I want to see the interviewer explain to him that he needs to go mining for his new player budget.

Steady on. Youthful squad up against Premier league side...what do you expect?

Queens park must love us. We've been an excellent feeder club for them.

"We were obviously much stronger in the second half.  Sets us up well for the league.".

Well, from 5-0 at HT, I'm pleasantly surprised we didn’t set a new record for heaviest ever defeat. And sadly that’s the best thing that can be said about this.

Screenshot_20240727_170726_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.66aad2261ec4614dfd9e073326a53376.jpgpretty grim reading but Dundee are a top six premier team and signed Murray who had a phenomenal season at 2nd worst team in league last season scoring 23 goals. ( I saw most of them).

Men against boys, or young boys, need to wait and see what happens when season starts next week. I assume Dundee took the foot off the gas 2nd half?

We all know it's going to be a huge effort to remain in league 1 with our young kids and over the hill seasoned pro's.

And, Bearing in mind last season's league cup with only one win, we didn't qualify with a much more experienced team!

Our aim is surely to beat Dumbarton and get confidence up!

This style of football is killing us. We need  to play a system that suits the players at our disposal.

...and a manager who knows exactly how to do that

Do you mean in 2004… when Hugh Keevins was ultimately made to look very stupid and Graeme Spiers failed to eat his hat as promised?

Aye… I wonder what Pele is thinking?

We won't be playing Premiership teams every week, thankfully we can take solace from the fact the rest of our seaside league compatriates are crap too going by results.

Cast your minds back to 1994/95 season. League Cup. Our first season in the league. Dundee away on a Wednesday night. We lost 3-0. We're Dundee SPL back then? Just saying.

..and back to Annan the week after. Reading the reports from our cup game there we did ok and were unlucky.

Not an easy watch. Looks like 2 og's by divine , poor pass by longstaff in his own box, a fluke by Murray

Dear oh dear..     some awful passing from us, These young lads will have to sharpen up for next week.

I know we will not be up against teams like Dundee every week but this kind of result will affect the moral big time, And i can't big dufus being a motivating kind of manager!

Erm, thanks for sharing! The only positive moment for us in the highlights is that we won a throw-in in the opposition half. (However, it resulted in Dundee being through on our goal seconds later)

Looking at the starting 11 I'm not sure we can use the younger players as an excuse for this one.

From the highlights it could have been much worse as well.

Alarm bells are ringing for the season ahead (literally!)...

I'll celebrate Ferguson leaving as much as I did winning the Scottish Cup and the old First Division.

A previous Chairmans decision not to sack a woefully out of his depth manager cost us our place in the Premiership. The current decision to stick with this guy (and even appoint him in the first place) might cost us our club.
