  1. Starting to wish this topic had self-destructed when it got to page 25.

  2. Jesus Christ did someone get a wee bit impatient that nobody gave them any attention after their 1st outburst. Read whats goin on all around you 95% of posters are absolute delighted that our man tb rejected the offer of a move down sarf which not many would have. From here on in we should forget any petty gripes and get ready for the end of potentially the best season ever..........togetherness

  3. Had he been off talking to a St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Motherwell or something then you might have a point. However, for me, this has been far from unsettling, the total opposite in fact. We've just had our Manager get an offer from a club who could offer him many times the salary he could ever get here and a player budget that could fund half the SPL. I don't know of any Manager who wouldn't have had their head turned by such an offer. Despite all that he chose ICT!!! We've just had more publicity than money could buy and the message at the end of it is....ICT don't have much, but they must be something really special if a man like Terry Butcher would rather be there on less money and with a smaller budget. Terry has just done more in two days to help shake of the "small town backwater" tag that is often applied to us than anything else that has happened in the last 19 years. The message he has just given the players is exactly the same...."lads, it's ok to look but its not all about the money, there's things to be earned here that money cannot buy".

  4. hi all, Thanks for making me welcome here, you seem a great bunch and obviously on an high at the moment with your team. A bit disappointed we missed out on butch but not really a surprise, our board should really have assessed the situation better. Like TB said in the interview with Radio sheffield, had you been in mid table things may have been diffferent. But he really would have been giving a lot up. Saying that had you been in mid table its debatable if we would have contacted him. Will defo keep an eye on your progress from now on and wish you all the success possible. I guess TB's dog can breath easy tonight :D

  5. Remind me of your whereabouts pre-merger? Remind me when you started taking an interest in Inverness football? Remind me of your birthplace? Another ICT incomer lays down the law. Why am I not surprised? Dougal How can I remind you when I haven't told you before? But for your information the answer to your questions are: Remind me of your whereabouts pre-merger? Inverness Remind me when you started taking an interest in Inverness football? 1975 Remind me of your birthplace? England I know I've only been in Inverness for 37 years so I would be really grateful if you would advise me how much longer I need to be resident here to be able to have a valid opinion on the subject?

  6. He was entitled to listen to what they had to say. In case you missed it, he turned them down ffs. I'm sure he will be off one day, it happens. People are also entitled to be happy with the result. He is our boss and he has taken us to where we are today, even if it did hurt a few at the time, so why not celebrate the fact that he listened, he pondered and he still preferred to stay with us, is that not enough for you.

  7. So he's staying then. It's a considerable relief in that I wonder what the performance of those players who had come to ICT on the back of being managed by TB would have been in the second half of the season? How would the likes of OTJ, Raven and the Shinnie's react? Losing TB might have put the club on a real downward spiral that would have been difficult to arrest. The reason for this is that TB, his abilities and his personality are now an intrinsic part of who we are as a club - the highland gentleman, advocate for the city, increasingly part of the business community. You might argue about it, but that's how outsiders see him. Of course his (and his teams) best asset is in attracting talent that would otherwise never think of coming here. Lose TB, and we lose all that and that's a worry. The second half of the season will define where we go from here - a top six finish or a cup final will increase TB's worth and it may be that only something like the lure of a europa league qualifier might be enough to keep him past the summer. Whatever happens (and isn't that part of the attraction of football) I'll enjoy the journey.

  8. At the end of the day he is staying and I am delighted with that, whatever his reason for staying lets just enjoy it along with the rest of this remarkable season. I get the feeling certain posters on here without actually saying it wanted him to leave and that really baffles me. We can speculate the reasons for him staying but do they really matter, will he be here much longer? who knows but lets just celebrate we have managed to keep the manager who has led us to the remarkable position that we are in. Enjoy it while it lasts folks.

  10. I wholeheartedly applaud Terry Butcher for deciding to stay with our club. I dont really care that it was a "hard decision" to turn down Barnsley, they likely offered a large salary increase compared to what we can offer, as well as a bigger transfer budget, and an opportunity to put himself in the shop window for what may be his ultimate goal of managing in the English Premiership. Nor do I really care whether there is any truth in the rumours that he wanted to go and either Mo or Marsella didnt so they all stayed. They are a team and that team displayed collective loyalty to each other and to the club. The bottom line is that TB is still ICT manager this morning, and the amount of positive press it has brought our club, and the pride in the club it has likely brought us all is immeasurable. I witnessed fans of many other clubs, including Celtic fans who probably loathe him from his time at Ibrox, posting on social media about how happy they were for ICT and for Scottish football that he decided to stay, and thats before you even head off to the BBC or to other news media outlets for a blast of ICT news .... If Terry can navigate us to a top 6 finish or maintain our current position and bring European football to the Highlands in time for our 20th birthday, secure the likes of Shinnie and others on longer contracts, and maybe even get us to the League Cup final (and/or a decent run in the Scottish Cup) then Barry Wilson is correct in the article linked to above ... he will be a club legend ... in fact, if he brings Euro football to the club, he wont be a legend, he will inherit the title of the immortal one from Johndo !!!!

  12. So now that's all over, exactly what has Butcher done for us this year? No progress in any cups, and not a single point in the league! Should I look out my slip-ons for the Aberdeen game?

  13. Clearly that is way off the mark. All ICT fans know that "he's fat, he's round, he's worth a millions pounds......."

  15. Found the news strangely moving last night. Wasn't quite in the main floods or anything but was touched that for once somebody has turned down the lure of the big bucks to stay at our football team. Have got so used to people jumping ship over the years, it's a major but pleasant surprise when it doesn't happen. Well done, Terry. Just a shame we don't have a game this weekend.

  16. I read this story yesterday and for research purposes only, actually went to the "club website" linked to in the article after reading this line mmm, ever heard of the SPL Mr Green .... that league where you played the same teams every year and structured it so you could even play the same team at least 4 times a year whilst, by virtue of your duopoly with Celtic, maintaining a stranglehold on both the finances of that league and also its voting power, not to mention finding ways to try and make sure it was difficult for the smaller teams to actually get in ..... there were a couple more belters on the site ..... Source: http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/3095-madness-to-snub-gers Can you say paranoia ? Do you want your ball back now ?

  18. If we see ourselves as a top 8 team then this could be an income generator for us. Added bonus would be only playing C*unt(y) twice at most. Having said that I am not in favour of this and would prefer a larger, 20 team 38 game, SPL with two relegated each year. A 24 team 46 game SPL 2 two promotion and three relegation places each year. 3 regional leagues east, west and northern, and all is sorted.

  23. Now a decission is made this thread is really at an end, perhaps now TB has shown commitment to our club and cause we should do the same and all fans be united behind him and show support by attending the games and getting beyond the 3000 fans we regullarly have to a number more fitting for a team sitting 2nd in a league!!!

  29. Not sure if you read my other post but I say that the directors were wrong. But TB didn't have to agree to meet them, and he didn't have to take 3 days. It took SOD less than a day to say no, this was a guy who was out of work and didn't have to worry about upsetting the fans of his current club. Butcher uses the excus ethat you are second in the league and still in two cups. Did all that happen within he 3 days or were you actually second in the league and still in two cups when Barnsley approached him. The directors could have misread the situation massively and approached Neil warnock at leeds, he would have said No straight away with no harm done. But TB decided to agree to meet the directors on the first day and then spend the next two days discussing a job he was never going to take. Thats time wasting in my eyes. He said he owed it to Barnsley to speak to them, well not really he owed it to Barnsley and ICT to turn it down straight away. Anyway, we move on and at least his dog is safe.........Until next time

  30. Don't see how you can blame Terry for wasting your time....not unless you are so arrogant as to think that it was a foregone conclusion that Terry would up sticks and leave for Barnsley!!! It's your board who approached a Manager who was already in a job...and flying high. If you want to apportion blame for wasted time, then look to your Directors as they are the ones who seem to have totally misjudged the situation and spent 3 days chasing the man who ultimately could not be convinced to leave his existing job. Maybe Barnsley need to take a look at how ICT conduct themselves in these things. Any time we've been looking for a new manager you get ZERO from the club until the deal is done. They've done exactly the same in this situation...made the statement that they gave Terry permission to speak to Barnsley and then kept schtum until the decision was finalised. That can be as frustrating as hell for us, the fans, but ultimately you aren't left with egg on your face....and you can often pursue more than one target without it ending up like you were left settling for 2nd, 3rd choices or whatever. Barnsley are the ones that took the gamble....and lost.....so I fail to see how you can point the finger of blame at anyone else. P.S. Terry was out taking a nice relaxing walk with his dog as the news broke...so all is well.

  31. I have long held the opinion that Terry holds some things in life more important than money. I believe the pace and way of life up here suits terry down to the ground...and he cherrishes that.

  32. I am delighted with his decision. To all those who are expressing concern with his honesty, in the interviews, would you rather he he told us lies. Get over yourselves, he has been as honest with us as we could have hoped and more honest then many are with themselves. Good man Terry.

  33. would not like to be the team that finishes 9 out of 12 at the split. say 6 points in front of 10th and maybe 15 points in front of 12th. then by magic the points for teams 9-12 in spl and 1-4 in championship are reset to zero, and the 8 teams play each other, for 4 places in spl or championship. after split have a dip in form due to injury ,( i assume all disciplinary points are reset also to zero) lose players in january transfer window, maybe even loose you manager and bingo you are one of the four to be in next years championship. league placings should be decided over a season and if you finish last or even second last you have no excuses when relegated. load of nonsense.

  34. Wow, things have really moved on since I left work, now at 23 pages and Terry stays just like some of us knew he would. Must be hard though for some of the haters to accept, probably though this was their chance to get Robbo back in charge. Now lets get behind Terry and the team and get into that cup final!!! Personally I'm a (very) 'happy clapper' tonight.

  35. Really great news for the club and all credit to Sir Terence for not making money his number one object in the game but put loyalty first. It's a pity that many others in the game couldn't follow his example.

  38. That Terry has turned down what will be the biggest job offered to an incumbent ICT manager, to reamain at the club shows just how far we have come and also how nuch belief he has in his team, make no mistake this is his team. I have no doubt that Terry will move on but until then he's ours and I'll continue to feel all warm and fluffy.

  41. Statement from Caley Jags Together on "Offensive Singing" http://ictsupporterstrust.co.uk/news/19-press-releases/259-offensive-singing-statement Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC issued a statement to fans via their website on 28th December 2012 regarding “Offensive Singing” at the Highland Derby. This statement contained advice from the Police and Procurator Fiscals Office warning that “singing or chants which could be deemed offensive to groups or communities such as travellers are deemed an offence under the law in Scotland and therefore anyone caught singing them is liable to criminal prosecution” In response to a request from fans, as well as our own concerns about the way legislation is being attached to this matter, the Caley Jags Together board have decided to seek legal advice which will be followed by a request for an urgent meeting with Northern Constabulary and the club to establish what is acceptable to sing or chant at football matches between Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and Ross County FC, and to make the fan’s views about this known. Caley Jags Together will update all fans as soon as possible on this subject, hopefully before the next meeting between the two sides.
