  1. Most exhilarating game of the season so far, thanks to the events of the last 10 minutes, but a very hard-working team was badly served by the bench yesterday, imvho. We were absolutely in control for an hour - I barely remember Hamilton creating a chance before they scored - but it was clear that some players were starting to tire badly in particularly difficult conditions, and given renewed hope by the goal, Hamilton were able to start dominating a game that they had never been in. The team's tendency to drop deeper and deeper and invite pressure onto themselves when defending a lead has been a source of concern and frustration all season, and while it was perhaps more understandable yesterday, given the conditions, at least having Williams' pace and Sho Silva's presence on the park in the last twenty five minutes would have provided genuine counter-attacking options: Storey was virtually a passenger during that period, having run himself into the ground. On the other hand, there was plenty to be encouraged by in addition to the final score. The midfield trio Tansey, Polworth and Draper was immense, key to us absolutely controlling the first hour of the game. After being one of our our best and most important players last season, Tansey had seemed quieter and less confident in the early part of this season, but on the evidence of yesterday, he is starting to get back to his best. Draper drove us forward, as he apparently did against Aberdeen; we're simply a far better side with him in the team, and we need to get him tied to a new contract asap. And of course, the revelation of St Liam continues. For a good three months now, he has been the bright spot in the team: relentlessly industrious, and positive and dynamic in his passing and the runs he makes, where too many others have been timid and conservative. Yesterday's two goals encapsulated all these qualities and rewarded Polworth for what he brings to the team. The one concern, of course, is that if his ability and influence continue to develop at the pace they have done in the first half of this season, then he might be the next player to follow Christie out the door. Wedderburn also had a good game yesterday, commanding the area in front of the central defence and bringing the three aforementioned players into the game. Vincent, on the other hand, still looks like he doesn't quite know where he should be playing. Hopefully this should inspire the team and given them confidence ahead of the derby, but County are undoubtedly a better team than Hamilton, and our players are going to have to make sure that they create plenty of opportunities, because on the basis of how our season has gone so far, it's an absolute nap that County will score against us.

Great to see Liam doing so well. In my opinion there is nothing quite like a truly local boy in the team to provide inspiration to youngsters in Inverness to follow their dreams and have confidence in their abilities, whatever path they choose to follow. I'm so glad he's taken his chance to carry on where Nick and Ryan left off and credit to the youth coaches for their part in nurturing local talent. All the very best for 2016 Liam and the rest of the team too. Thanks for an amazing year and loads of unforgettable memories.
  3. I would have voted for Josh Meekings, but he's not on the list for some reason.

Only one comment to make. If we are fortunate enough to secure a two goal lead at any stage on no account should we sit deep and try to defend it....
  5. I met Jim Calder in the gym this morning where he still works out regularly, although can't at the moment run since he's hurt his knee. (I'm not sure this actually upset him too much!) I told him about this thread and we discussed penalties. I reminded him that he saved two in a successful shootout in a Cup replay at home to Stranraer in January 1997 after Paul Cherry missed his and he reminded me that there was a period in his ICT career when, including misses, two thirds of the penalties taken against him were unsuccessful. I think those of us old enough to remember that era look back nostalgically on a wonderful pioneering age for ICT when nobody (execpt, apparently, Dougie McGilvray!) knew how things were actually going to progress. That first decade from D3 to the SPL - and in particular years 2-5 under Pele from D3 to D1 and the quarter finals of the Cup - was an intriguing era of rapid progress where new territory was being discovered again and again by a club which was leaving its Highland League origins and making progress through the national hierarchy. Jim Calder, and many others, played vital roles in that pioneering epic.

  7. 30 Dec 2015 Last one of the year, Billy Mckay with yet another penalty in Dundee Utd's 3-2 defeat at Hearts. I’ve totted up all the goals scored by our ex players in the calendar year 2015. This is easier than doing it season by season, as not all the playing seasons where our ex players now play match up with the UK playing season (eg mainland Europe, USA, Ireland). By my reckoning we have had 61 ex players scoring 371 goals, as follows :- 26 goals Rory McAllister Peterhead 24 Adam Rooney Aberdeen 21 Gary Wood Montrose/Formantine 18 Zander Sutherland Brora R 16 Dale Gillespie Brora R 15 Andy MacAskill Turriff U 13 Sam Winnall Barnsley 12 Brian Prunty Airdrieonians, Andrew Grieg Brora R Martin Bavidge Inverurie 11 Jason Oswell Newtown Curtis Allen Glentoran Dan Park Cove R 10 Stuart Soane Forres 09 Denis Wyness Elgin/Buckie Shane Sutherland Elgin/Peterhead Billy Mckay Dundee Utd 08 Dachi Khutsishvili Forres 06 Alex MacDonald Oxford Utd Stuart Armstrong Dundee Utd/Celtic Lewis MacKinnon Buckie Doug Imrie Hamilton Martin Laing Inverurie 05 Marley Watkins Barnsley Andrew MacLeod Strathspey Adam Evans Bohemians Andy Barrowman Dunfermline/Albion Grant Munro Brora R Tarmo Kink Levadia(Tallin) 04 Aidan Chippendale Stalybridge Gregory Tade Steua Bucharest Johnny Hayes Aberdeen Ben Greenhalgh Concord R 03 Filipe Morais Bradford Marius Niculae Dinamo Bucharest Robert Eagle Lowestoft Jamie Duff Elgin Craig MacMíllan Rothes Darren Mackie Turriff U 02 Eddie Ofere Boluspor Ibram Sekajja Livingston David Davis Birmingham Gavin Morrison Brora R Charlie Taylor Leeds John Rankin Dundee Utd Tom Aldred Accrington/Blackpool Stuart Leslie Deveronvale 01 Danni Sanchez FL Strikers Brian Gilfillan Airdrieonians Stuart Duff Cove R Callum Dingwall Formantine Darren Dods Forfar Ross Tokely Brora R Ian Vigurs Inverurie Graeme Shinnie Aberdeen Andrew Shinnie Birmingham Roy McBain Cove R Michael Finnis Clach Ian Black Shrewsbury Steve Williams Barrow Ryan Baptie Linlithgow
  8. Thanks. That would suggest tha Dundee Utd are fecked!

And if false, we should make it true!
  10. What a scoreline! Having secured a victory after again conceding a 2 goal lead should be a boost to the players and a reminder to the manager that we have midfielders capable of scoring if only they are allowed to press forward. That's 4 excellent points and 6 goals in very poor weather conditions and to my mind, an excellent advert for winter football. The thing is, the worse the weather gets the more difficult it gets to pass the ball prettily out of defence and play tippy tappy stuff in the middle of the park. Instead, the players get back to the basic fact that the team that scores the most goals wins the game. Get the ball up the park and pressure the opposing defence into making errors and the chances will come. Its a good strategy at the best of times and provides for a lot more excitement to warm the cockles on a cold wet winter's day.

A lot of people were quite disappointed when Nick Ross moved on but young Liam has more than stepped up to the plate. He's managed to force his way into the team and he's meriting his place in the team with his performances. Hopefully we can get him on a new contract pronto as he looks like he's really coming on to his game now.

I always wanted to see polworth getting a proper chance and he certainly hasn't disappointed! He has stepped up to be a very important player for us and I hope that the club can sort out a good contract for him! As we seen on Wednesday he is also a player that will hit a ball from outside the box which is, unfortunately, something we don't see a great deal of! Liam can only get better from here and I hope we get to see him in his best years!

I think we will bring them back down to earth...they're five points ahead of us yet they've had a great start to their season and we haven't! Wins on sat and away at killie will have us chasing hearts and st Johnstone and hopefully with a little luck and concentration we can challenge those 2 for 4th place! Saturday could be the start of county's down fall! anything can happen in a derby but I'd like to think that our bigger and better players will show county just who's boss in the north! Not that I believe it for a moment but the main stand appears to be full or very close so hopefully we'll get a decent support out to back the players! Let's have a happy start to the new year....
  14. Ok well after what I heard and saw yesterday maybe. After a stramash in the box William's clattered his head of the post & the loud metallic ringing sound clearly audible 100M plus away. No surprise he went down, quite surprised he stood up and amazed he played on!. Amazed also at the reaction of some Aberdire supporters who thought it was ok to boo him . Did they think he deliberately head-butted the metal post to disrupt play......Aye right! (Thing called Injury time you know). Williams definately harder than the all the Expendables!. Harder than John Yogi Hughes who apparently eats concrete for breakfast??. But Williams didn't take the option of the padded jacket & Bovril & getting out of the Baltic conditions, so fair play fella, hats off!!.
  15. Could no one find a pen?
  16. Well you wouldn't want to leave early from a Caley match these days! Polworth seems to have come of age, that's some hell of a winner .... Up to sixth, just have to stay there now! In Madrid at the mo, took a tour of the Bernabau....almost as impressive as the Tulloch Caledonian!
  17. The poll says "favourite" not best etc., etc., etc. Calder is a feckin no brainer (pun)
  18. Now will we start attacking more and more a lesson to be learned surely
  19. End it before it ends me!
  20. Have we hit a time warp back to the days of Pele?
  21. Sitting in a car in Hamilton trying to pluck up the courage to get out...
  22. I can only assume that if you didn't vote for Jim Calder you are either; a) Too young to have seen him play b) One of these supporters who jumped on the bandwagon and started supporting ICT when we won promotion to the SPL in 2004.
  23. In my day if you ended a match with so much of the shirt colour still visible you would have been criticised for not getting stuck in enough
  24. Imagine playing in these conditions? Disgraceful ! No wonder Miles was beat when he was subbed. How can any team play at their best and entertain the crowds in such conditions? By the end the players looked more like rugby participants than SPL figures. Summer football is a must --for the players and the fans. Attendances would go up also IMHO. Why do the Scottish Football authorities hang on to such outdated and primitive rites, such as Winter football? Nobody benefits without a major cost, so why? Their penalty was unmerited. The Caley player could never have avoided being hit by a very hard shot and the player says he was hit on the shoulder which was what I thought as well when I saw the highlights before I read what he said. Mind you, our penalty was a really soft one also and how it could be construed that our boy was in a scoring position facing away from the goalmouth and almost on the outer edge of the box is mind-blowing. Strange how you rarely if ever see the ref running to the linesman to seek his opinion? Since they are both wearing headsets then can we assume that a fair assessment has been made on the incident. Mr. Collum kept his whistle in his pants during the cup final and it was a good performance from him but , once again, he still seems to be controversial with the bread-and-butter stuff and this business of levelling up, either to appease the crowd or just because he feels he may have made a prior mistake, is not a great, or fair, way to go about his business. He is not the guy to decide the outcome of a match; that's up to the players and how they perform and/or react to incidents. If he makes a mistake he should stop there and move on and simply try to do better the next time.
  25. Jim Calder is a feckin legend. None of the others come remotely close. And Jim never fecked over to the dark side of the bridge either.
  26. Seeing as we don't have any 1885 glory hunters left I think we can all be considered newbies. Take any of our SPFL/ SPL goalies and stick them in the bottom 2 divisions and they would be as good if not better than Jim Calder.
  27. Hi all from a nice and hot Lanzarote will be checking the caley score this afternoon
  28. Chuffed to see the result, even more so when I read the story. What a finish. Don't think many teams will fancy playing Inverness on current form.
