If James Vincent (Terry's publically declared first choice) is to be out injured for a while, who should assume the mantle of our spot-kick taker?

I don't see why Aaron Doran couldn't step up! I think he'd be excellent - a wee 'faint' on the run-up, then effortlessly guiding it passed the already commited 'keeper!

Anyway, for the record, here's the list of our current squad's players' records from 12 yards. (in chronological order order from left to right,  i.e. Billy has missed his most recent 3) - still not too shabby, 7 from 10, but I agree with Terry, 3 misses in-a-row means it's time to step aside.

But I'd have no qualms about Billy stepping-up and taking one if we had a shoot-out against Dundee United in the League Cup quarter-final!

Tansey is quite clearly in pole position. That was a sweet hit at Midden and had to be as the keeper guessed right but with that kind of power and positioning it was unstoppable.

  • ...I think we should concentrate on actually getting into the penalty area to start winning penalty kicks than worrying about who's going to take them!

There are some interesting stats around on this just now: can't remember the details but keepers in Scottish Prem have saved more of pens hit to their right than their left: none have been saved when hit down the middle! Ross and McKay's misses will contribute to keeper's saves to their right!

Looks like Man U need to practice penalties.  Even though Sunderland managed to miss 3 of their 5, Utd missed 4!  Quite astonishing and surely a new low for Utd.    When was the last time as many as 7 of the first 10 penalties were missed in a shoot out I wonder?

That is the worst penalty shoot out I've ever seen.

Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Adnan Januzaj and Rafael all his pathetic penalties.

The only decent penalties were the two that Sunderland scored.

There was a bad one a few years back but I'm struggling to remember what it was so appealing to those who still have a decent memory. Not as bad as this one though  :amazed:

Maybe the next time Vincent or Tansey are unavailable to take it, we should just let Ross pass it and have Mckay running in to whack it home from inside the box.

Pires tried to pass a penalty to Henry but the ball didn't move forward so it ended up being an indirect free kick to Man City.

will never forget that one - Keystone cops!

Can work -

You either need to hit a penalty in the bottom or top corners (top a bit more risky) and with plenty of pace. Do that and the keeper has no chance

I would generally agree with this, however my new theory is to aim for the goalies head as it will move 99% of the time?

So if the Semi Final went to penalties, god forbid, who would your 5 penalty takers be?

Mine would be:

Tansey

Shinnie

Vincent

Meekings

Williams

As long as they all plus the rest of the squad get extra practice in training this week at taking them.

i would say let Liam Polworth take a penalty cause he is amazing at set pieces

With only 9 players yesterday, I had visions of David Raven taking the winning spotkick!!

Moving forwards, Draper showed great composure under massive pressure so I'd be happy to see him become our regular taker for a while.

After looking again at the penalties, I think I'd give the job to Tansey.  His penalty was unstoppable, as was Nick's.  Billy's was the best I've seen him take. Draper's was as cool as you like. Even Shinnie's wasn't badly hit, just too close to, and at a good height for the keeper, who guessed right too.

But on balance, Tansey for me. He hits them with such power, that I doubt any keeper could stop them, even if they got a hand to one.

Fer fecks sake we will NOT need penalties.

.....want to change your mind on that one, IHE?  ....but who cares - we stuck it up 'em!

I think we should sell the video of that shoot out to Man Utd.

Shinnie's was a poor kick but the other four were top class penalties with Tansey's being the pick of the bunch.  I can't see Aberdeen wanting the final to go to penalties.

Who will be our regular penalty taker now?  Note that Vincent, who was our nominated penalty taker before getting injured, had been subbed after 90 minutes and couldn't take one.

For me it was Ross who hit the best one, and a massive improvement on his previous weak effort.  Would prefer seeing Tansey as our designated penalty taker though, if he keeps his place in the team.

If we were still level on penalties after our 9 remaining players had taken theirs, what would have happened, as Hearts would still have had two players?
