For some reason, it feels like the coronavirus has also increased talk among fans about an entire restructure of Scottish Football (mainly expanding the Premiership, and dropping it to playing each other twice a season)

But this one, is something else.

Would be crazy to relegate Hesrts. Just look at Partick as well, bottom but if they win their game in hand they move off the bottom. It just wouldn’t be fair.

Would be fair my man had over 3/4s of a season to climb the table both teams have been rank rotten both deserve to go down ! They'll need to make a decision soon clubs are needing the money payed out how long can they wait this could drag on for months!

Would only be fair if all teams had played the same amount of games. As Partick have played one less, how can it be fair on them. Don't particularly like Partick but think it teams in their position have to be given some extra consideration.

So no, that's not likely to set a precedent for anywhere else!

Do we know how they have dealt with promotion and relegation?

They only had one league game left, but do they not normally split for play offs?

Not true, one Game until the Split. Where after the Split the total pts is then halved. So the gap would therefore be 8 pts with 11 games to play....

Ah, OK, thanks.  Thought it was a bit early for them to have reached that stage!

One report says that these are the final standings, but another says that they haven't decided yet what to do about promotion and relegation.

That game in hand would only help thistle if it was against us every other team hammers them get them down been gash all year big club like that should be in a title race no down there serves them right! Same as hearts whinging about it now had all season to improve team like that should never be below clubs with zero finance like the Accies they're own fault for appointing a sword of dud managers

Remember the "Pools Panel"! This could be the answer for the Scottish Hierarchy to sort things out.

There is more chance of the central belt pundits they would employ to predict the results having us relegated than retaining our play off place by the end of the virtual season.

The news tonight said no European places unless the season is completed.

Sounded like an ultimatum.

With all the uncertainty, goodness knows how the SFA/SPFL can respond to that.

Whilst it may not suit us, surely all leagues should be voided and we start again next season. That way players contracts can expire and they can find new clubs and clubs can sign players. The season may need to have a delayed start but so be it

Anything else will be a total mess.

Apparently the SPFL are calling UEFAs bluff and finishing the league...according to the Daily Record, anyway...

Celtic champs, Hearts down, and unsurprisingly, the lower leagues are left in the dark. Unless there's an expansion or the playoffs go ahead, everyone who's not top or bottom is getting shafted...

After watching a news bulletin where they announced that O and A level grades are to be decided by teachers based on past performance, this does not seem to be an unreasonable approach. In the great scheme of things, if such important outcomes for a child's future can be decided like this, something as unimportant as the placings in a football league can surely be decided in such a way. The various FAs could get there heads together  (2 metres apart please) and come up with an agreed formula to finish all the leagues - the statties would love it!

Interesting group, not many from the top league.

The Highland and Lowland League involvement hopefully indicates thoughts of admitting the respective Champions which could mean 14 10 10 10.

Who knows, but we can hope.

Interesting.  Can't help but notice that Dundee are represented after being persuaded (and allowed) to change their vote.  Partick too after deciding against taking legal action over the vote.  Both the Highland and Lowland Leagues are represented but neither of the big 2.  It smacks to me as a sop to some of the smaller clubs to make them think that the SPFL is serious about restructuring and a sop to Hearts and Partick to suggest that the SPFL are doing their best to prevent them from being relegated after an unfinished season.  They may come up with some good suggestions which have the support of most of the clubs, but unless Rangers or Celtic support the proposals then any proposal simply won't be carried and we will be back to square one.  I live in hope though.

The thing I struggle with with regards to restructure is what Dundees end game is. If indeed there is restructure with the top league going to 14 then how did Dundee benefit from this as the supposed King makers of this whole shambles?

They may push for a 16 but we all know it wont happen with 14 being the only viable option. They maybe happy with the situation with Utd and us going up and Hearts staying up meaning two more part time from league 1 come up leaving Dundee favourites to get promotion the season after. So i would think it is that as i cant see any other reason for this mess.

Welcome to the forum!

The only thing that makes sense to me is that they are playing the long game.  I honestly can't see both Rangers and Celtic voting for a restructuring that involves more than 14 teams in the Premiership.  If we have a 14 team top flight next season with Hearts not being relegated and Utd and us going up, then Dundee will be best placed to go up the following season.  Once up, it will be easier to stay in a top flight of 14 rather than 12 providing the promotion / relegation arrangements stay the same.

Next season will be difficult to plan for, what with all the loss of revenue this season and the continuing uncertainty.  Dundee will probably be better placed that any other championship to cope with that and it would give them the time to make the necessary plans to ensure they were competitive in the top flight the season after.  Compare that with the situation we find our selves in.  The priority for the Board is simply survival at the moment.  If reconstruction took us back into the top flight we will have neither the time nor the money to strengthen the squad.  We would be hot favourites for the drop.

After the traumas of coronavirus, Dundee may be planning to rebuild their strength carefully and steadily.  If we are in the Premiership next season we may find we overstretch ourselves and end up suffering from post viral fatigue syndrome.

Livi are on board with the plan. Thats 10 left that need to accept, 9 assuming Hearts follow through...

There is currently no plan for Livi to be on board with.  What they are on board with is their own proposal.

I don't like their proposal as it seems to do away with the play offs apart from potentially between the Championship and the Premiership.  The play-offs keep the season meaningful to the end of the season for several clubs.  I'm not sure why they would want to move away from that.

It make it fair again. The club finishing 4th has no right to be promoted. Second place  far deserves it due to their hard work over an entire season.
