  1. I don't normally post on here very much but I was at the game last night and it's been interesting to read peoples thoughts. Yes it was embarrassing but come on, can we just get this result and our season into perspective a little. Celtic have spent a minimum of £20 million during the summer on international quality players. This is our first year back in the SPL with a squad where the majority of players haven't played regular SPL football before. Terry took a risk last night by playing a weakened youthful team but I'd just love to see the criticism he'd have received if he'd played Foran, Rooney etc for the 90 mins and they had to go off injured. He just can't keep the fans happy whatever he does. We're suppose to support the team but after any result (win, draw or lose) there is a constant slating and questioning of his decisions. The fact is that Terry is the boss and I think he knows slightly better than any fan. I'm fully behind Butcher like the majority of the posters on here and I think it's absolutely astonishing to see that people are calling for Terry's head after one lose to a team of international players, where one of their players receive a bigger weekly wage than the whole of our squad. I really hope that those people who are calling for Terry to leave have just got caught up in the heat of the moment as the man has worked wonders forthe club. It's time for a reality check. We have no right to be in this league, we have to fight for it, and this is why I firmly support the team choice last night. St Mirren is a massive game for us on Saturday. We need to be beating teams like this and Terry is giving us the best chance of doing so by making sure we have a fresh Rooney, Foran etc to play. The only way we're going to stay up is by beating the teams around us. One other point I want to make is the support last night. I don't want to labour this as it's been talked over and over again but last night I found it increasingly frustrating having to put up with a FEW younger guys at the back of the Caley support who find it more appropriateto go to games and shout at their fellow fans for not standing up during agame. I just question they're motivation for going to games? By all means come along to games and make noise and get behind the team in that way but I have no room for people who criticise our own support. Can we not sing songs that support the team rather than slate our own support? Everyone enjoys and has a right to experience the match in a different way whether that's sitting down and watching the football or standing up and making some noise. I don't want to start any kind of argument by writing this but I just wish that these "fans" would come tothe games and support the team rather than get on top of other fans who have just as much right to be at the game as them. Also please don't get me started on the singing of a certain controversial sectarianism song that was being sung by a few of these young "fans". Your pulling down the clubs reputation and it's just so cringe worthy to listen to. Please think before you try to start singing a song! Lets get behind Terry and the team starting on Saturday and cheer them on to many wins this season but can we please stop attacking our own fans for turning up at games and enjoying it in their own way?

  3. I never realised that we had so many knee jerkers on our website. FFS we have just been thrashed in a small time cup which we had no hope of winning and all hell lets loose. What the hell is wrong with you lot. The ones to feel sorry for are those that made the journey to watch this. Then again, surely a blind man could see what sort of line up was coming, no? Playing against a multi-million pound team full of international players, with freebies and cast offs is asking for trouble. So what? We lost, well got thrashed, laugh it off. We have had so many good times, we were bound to hit the wall. Yes we won the first division at a canter, eventually, but this is a whole new bag of worms. We will do well to stay in the SPL this season, but having a go at everything because we lost to Celtic is, well, it's a joke. This is the team who beat us 0-1 in the meaningful encounter, not such a bad thrashing then was it? If you have been jerking your knee, then please reply below.

  4. linky While its annoying, frustrating, embarassing and so on to get beat by such a margin i can see Butchers logic. He has clearly identified the league as priority for us this season and i completely agree. We simply cannot afford to be relegated again and while the result was so frustrating i sincerely hope it aids our league campaign. I am the first to admit that i was nearly tearing my hair out reading live commentary of the game and was so frustrated after the game but now that i have had a chance to reflect ive come to the conclusion that if it helps us get points in the league, then fielding a weaker team was a necessary evil. i still stand by my comment in the matchday thread that we seriously need to look at strentghening our backline

  5. I have alluded to this elsewhere but I thought it might deserve a topic of its own. I guess I will soon find out . I thought Tuffey had a good game last night although God only knows what he is thinking this morning. I think Ryan will be thanking his lucky stars that he was left out. Pretty much faultless with all the goals I thought that he was commanding in the air and saved brilliantly on more than one occasion in the first half.......once with his feet and another time full length to his right. He was maybe lucky to stay on the park late on but I had a poor view of that. He was left sooo exposed at times by the high line of our defense (what was that all about with the pace that Celtic have?) but wasn't holding back when chastising the guilty parties. He must be feeling sh*t this morning but I say.........well played lad..........you will hopefully never have to endure that again

  6. Would that include those who chose to shout abuse and bile at our own fans? That does NOTHING to support the team and to be quite honest, we can do without it. Not everyone goes to a game to jump about, sing and chant like a looney. They certainly don't deserve the crap that was directed at them by a small group of those who proclaim to be somehow better than other fans for whatever disillusioned reasons they may have. As I've said 1001 times, people should worry about themselves and what they do...sing, chant or whatever and others who want to join in will. If some people don't wish to join in, that's fine. I didn't see them turning around to tell people that they should support the team in the manner they choose, and to be honest, had I been among those the vitriol was being directed towards I am not so sure I would have been so restrained in ignoring it. The whole thing was rather disgusting and far more embarrassing than the scoreline.

  10. So you write a post calling for Butcher's head with one of the reasons being that the formation he played was wrong, yet it's the exact same thing you would've played!?

  11. No more or less than I expected and you have to set aside the disappointment of the result and look at the bigger picture. Our number 1 priority this season is league survival...NOTHING else matters and I will happily see us work to protect that league position by whatever means necessary and if that means getting knocked out of every cup 6-0 nothing then so be it. In the cold light of day their were positives to be taken from last night.... Butcher is willing to make the tough decisions for the right reasons Nick Ross played another great game Sutherland showed signs that he is progressing nicely The majority of the team battled to the end despite the scoreline Granted, we didn't look too hot with so many changes and a team so far from what would be the preferred starting 11, but once I got over the initial shell shock I saw some decent individual performances which give me confidence that we have players waiting in the wings who are capable of playing their part in ensuring we gain the top priority of league survival. And to finish...Mahonio, I have read your opinion and respect your right to express it, but I too think your talking a load of codswallop.

  13. I was at the game and as soon as the teams were announced it was clear what Butcher was trying to achieve. He's right too, Saturday is the much bigger game. Tonight was embarrassing and is a sore one but its over now and we're out a competition we probably wouldn't win anyway. No lasting damage done and hopefully the young guys who played tonight realise that, can't have been a fun experience for them. Having said that, it was effectively our first choice defence tonight and they did not look clever at any point. It's becoming clear we need new bodies in there, it just doesn't seem to be working. Celtic played well but we made it easy with huge holes appearing constantly as all 3 of our starting centre backs were hauled all over the place. Maybe a sweeper is what is needed in there, someone with a bit of pace and reading of the game to coordinate whats going on with the ball winners. Who have we got who can play that role though?? Only one I can think of who might suit it is Duncan, at a push.

  15. From Mondays Scotsman LOVE IN AT NEW LOVE STREET - Ewan MacMurray Group 4 Security have announced plans to make amends with travelling fans of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, following widespread condemnation of their brusque approach and draconian "policing" tactics at the recent Hibernian v ICT match played at Easter Road. Group 4 Security spokesperson, Adolf Mussolini, apologised profusely stating "We would wish to unequivocally apologise to all Inverness Supporters who attended the match at Esater Road. Our stormtroopers were overexcited by the aggressive match plan laid out by the new Stadium Manager, Vladimir Romanov, and they took their adrenaline out on the ICT contingent. We unfortunately did not hold back on men, women, children of all ages and apparently even through out a Highalnd papparazi - although he gave a false name of a pope. Group 4 Security have held preparatory talks with Strathclyde Police and the Stain Midden management. They aim to provide pre match entertainment at the slacious Alamo Bar on the aptly named Love Street. Cocktails and a buffet will be available and personal invitations are being sent out to members of the SESH and MOB fan factions. It would appear that members of those groups may have been singled out. Adolf added "Fortunately we have maintained a list of names of all those ejected and we look forward to make amends to the likes of Donald Duck, Elvis Presley, Ronald Reagan, Peter Paul XV1, William Wallace and the grey haired Marius Niculae". On arrival at the grounds all Inverness fans will receive a complementary packet of Lovehearts and will be encouraged to share the sweeties and enact the mottos with the stewards. Inverness fans will be provided with free flowery seat cushions and they will be permitted to stand whilst singing. A suggestion was for a chorus backed by flares but Health and Safety has limited this but ICT fans will be allowed to wave orchid scented joss sticks as they sing "Wise men say". Half time will herald a rendition of "All you need is love" by the Group 4 choir. Stewards will mingle with the ICT support and hope to encourage a flurry of group hugs, whilst doves will be released an rose petals will be scattered like confetti. Inverness fans, Mann4thejob and Johnboy expressed their support "This is an admirable gesture and brings back sweet memories of Woodstock and love ins. It will be just like the Aviva advert." So Paisley will be the place to be on Saturday 25th September if your goal is world peace and it will be pleasing to see the yellow jacketed barstewards being amenable for once. MOB spokesman IHE concluded " We all thought that there was a human being inside that cold, gruff exterior. It will be nice to watch ninety minutes of football again. I just hope unruly influences like the Highland Exile wont spoil it for us.

They certainly don't deserve the crap that was directed at them by a small group of those who proclaim to be somehow better than other fans for whatever disillusioned reasons they may have. As a lesser fan who wasn't up singing and jumping around, I must say I was humbled by the superb efforts of our super fans who inspired us mere mortals with such incredibly witty chants as 'what a sh1te away support'. The deep sense of pride that we have individuals in our support who are prepared to make up for others shortcomings in such a self effacing way almost brings a tear to the eye. It's true to say that the Celtic Ultras in the opposite corner were stunned into silence by the fantastic efforts of our elite and spent most of the game paying homage to the Inverness support, even turning their backs as a mark of respect at one point. That's how it went, wasn't it?

  19. I reckon thats a bad attitude from ICT though. Ross County beat Celtic last season, we have beaten Celtic before and we will do again. If i thought we were NEVER going to win i wouldn't have went, I wouldn't have went either if i knew most of the players wouldn't make an effort.

  21. It always has to be survival in the league a No. 1 priority. We have, in the past, been lucky to get a good cup run but we can never plan to be lucky every year. 42 teams have similar ideas in CIS cup and over a hundred in Scottish. There are always obstacles and surprises in cup comps and never guarantees of progression. Progression always tends to be on the luck of the draw and this CIS year the draw went against us. The league affords us more control in our destiny. We know our opponents. We know whats needed to stay ahead of the worst team. We also play each of those teams three or four times so have chances to sort problems and make ammends. We dont get that in cup games. 6-0 can be hard to take but it happens from time to time and we just have to shake ourselves down keep on fighting.

  22. I don't think we do, but forums can allow a tiny but vocal minority to create the impression of a wave of discontent. The other thing to bear in mind is that the forum membership, like society, has its fair share of idiots as well as people with specific problems: learning difficulties, autism, depression, breakdowns etc, and if you follow certain people's posts you can see the signs. It wouldn't be appropriate to name names but I think that point is relevant to some of the reaction to last night's result.

  23. I've not been on since before the Hearts game purely because I was so angry with that display that I decided I would keep my thoughts to myself and not upset anyone but thought now was as good a time as any to post. I wasn't surprised with last nights result and had already resigned myself to the fact that we were going to get beat, and by a potential cricket score, not because I thought we would be bad but because Celtic would be out to prove a point on the back of Rangers thumping 7-2 win against Dunfermline. They were clearly out to prove a point and the players they brought in were stacking their place for a regular first team slot. Lennon was out at 3 and 4 nil pushing his players up baying for more goals for gods sake. I 100% agree with TB's reasons and logic behind the team he played last night but the only thing I didn't agree with was the formation, having been very poor defensively since the start of the season it seemed foolish to change to a rigid 3 at the back but on the other hand I don't think we need to worry about seeing that again this season, lessons will have been learned. For me we need to start protecting the back line and drop the AMC that we play, more often than not Odhiambo, and replace it with a DM who can then sit in front of the defence and protect them as well as starting the play. If it is good enough for Rangers its' good enough for us. We are also struggling to pick up the ball in the middle and our two midfielder's aren't getting in the game, with this hopefully they would and can push up a bit without fear of exposing the defence. Before the start of the season there were people on here calling for a top 6 finish after the glories of last season and I kept quiet not wanting to steal people's thunder but now I would hope we all agree that survival is the only priority and that trumps any cup run we potentially could go on. Yes it's good when it lasts but long term has no real benefits for a club like ICT apart from the money it brings in and while this is good it doesn't really do anything for the team on the park when there is only one opportunity to bring players in (January window) which could already be too late if we don't start properly and we all saw two seasons ago how difficult it was try to recover in January from a terrible start. Last season we didn't start well but look what happened - Mahonio all I am going to say is have some faith and see what has happened when we are in November/December. There is nothing wrong with wanting us to win every game, which ultimately everyone on here wants, but we have to be realistic and look at the bigger picture.

  27. I feel some of the reaction to this game to be way over the top. Yes, 6-0 was embarrasing and I feel sorry for the fans that were there but our main focus has to be to stay up. Posters have queried the team selection but what if we had played our strongest team and lost more to injuries, then Saturdays game would have become even more of a risk for us. A win against St Mirren will be a great boost and help us survive in this league at the end of the season. You also have to remember that out first choice defence has been decimated by injuries and players are being played out of position. I am sure that certain players were re-signed purely as cover and to be used sparingly (Golabek for example) but things haven't worked out that way. Where are we supposed to find additional players and pay for them with the budget we have, some players will not sign if they are going to be on the bench every week. Perhaps if the people of Inverness turned out in greater numbers to support their team, we would have more resources but that is another story. Better teams that us have had thumpings from Celtic in the past and come back from it. Finbally, cast your mind back to the first game of the season when it was almost our strongest team that faced Celtic, it could easily have been 4 or 5 nil that day but the ball ran for us. It didn't last night.

  28. That would go down as one of the more bizarre sackings in managerial history, he just took the team up at first attempt and without having any real funds to add to the team has notched up a couple of decent results so far in the SPL. Granted it was a strange team selectiontonight but perhaps he was worried about getting more injuries to key players, after all it is how ICT do in the league not the cups that will keep Butcher in a job
